I have proven ability as a trainer of waste management personnel and I am a registered assessor and verifier for WAMITAB COTC, WAMITAB Non Statutory Awards. I spent seven years working for a commercial waste management company in the UK, being appointed manager of the environmental section. During this time I gained extensive waste management experience in co-disposal landfills and transfer stations. In particular, I was responsible for the management and development of leachate treatment plants. I then moved into consultancy Leppitt Associates: advising on a wide range of waste management issues such as underpinning knowledge training for WAMITAB COTCs, environmental permitting and planning applications, health and safety, environmental risk assessment and EMS audits. I have managed a variety of waste sites to provide cover during staff training programmes. In early 2001 I successfully established a City & Guilds NVQ Centre selling the WAMITAB and BICS awards. Since then more than 450 people have completed a variety of awards involving assessment by myself of Levels 1 to 4, including training in Health & Safety and Environmental Legislation. INTRODUCTION River water quality is monitored in 34 catchments in the region. Samples are collected at a minimum frequency of once a month from 422 watercourses at 890 locations within the Regional Monitoring Network. Each sample is analysed for a range of chemical and physical determinands. These sample results are stored in the Water Quality Archive. A computerised system assigns a quality class to each monitoring location and associated upstream river reach. This report contains the results of the 1992 river water quality classifications for each determinand used in the classification process. 2. RIVER WATER QUALITY ASSESSMENT The assessment of river water quality is by comparison of current water quality against River Quality Objectives (RQO's) which have been set for many river lengths in the region. One initiative in 2003 aimed to energise and invigorate practitioners into using internet based technologies more fully in their business practices.
