HEDNO: Inauguration of the first electrical vehicle charging station in Eastern

Today we launched the first electrical vehicle charging station in Eastern Attica during an opening event in Rafina, organized by the Municipality of Rafina- and attended by HEDNO's Chairman and CEO, Mr N. Chatziargyriou and the Mayor of Rafina-Pikermi, Mr E.Bournos.

The first electrical vehicle charging station was constructed in the outdoor space of the Rafina-Pikermi Town Hall building with the collaboration of HEDNO and SmartRue research team of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of (EMP), as part of the European research programme SHAR-Q.

During the opening, Mr G. Kotsalos, Assistant Director at HEDNO’s Regional Department of Attica, warmly congratulated Mayor Mr Bournos for his collaboration during the construction of the station and highlighted the contribution of EMP's research team, which set standards and developed the necessary algorithms that ensure higher green energy consumption (energy generated from Renewable Energy Sources).

The Mayor also highlighted that the technological advancements for tackling environmental and financial challenges associated with climate change and for ending fossil energy dependence, have provided the background for HEDNO’s and EMP’s positive responses to install this public electrical vehicle charging station.

Electro-mobility is one of HEDNO’s top priorities at the moment, part of its strategy to promote sustainable development, to tackle climate change and to boost Greek economy. When it comes to the promotion of electro-mobility, the development of public infrastructure for vehicle charging is essential. However, these facilities are still rare in our country, making the conversion to electro-mobility all the more difficult.
