Record Breaking Sales Sees Boomtown Sell out in Four Months! Ahead of the 10th chapter of the UK’s most theatrical and immersive music festival Boomtown Fair, the event has officially sold out of all standard and travel package festival tickets with six ​ months still to go! The 60,000 capacity event held at Matterley Estate nr Winchester over ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ 9th - 12th ties together interactive theatre with an overarching storyline, and a soundtrack boasting one of the most diverse musical line ups on offer. This record breaking start to Chapter 10 will see the festival go back to its roots with more live acts than ever before. Never satisfied with sticking to the status quo, straddling genres is almost a prerequisite to headline at Boomtown, with this year’s headliners including a one-off UK show from the Gorillaz, Die Antwoord and Limp Bizkit. ​ ​ ​ ​ Defying expectations with every district announcement, the festival continues to excite and surprise with underground acts from around the globe. These include jazzy Gilles Peterson prodigy Zara Macfarlane, and metal band Soulfly announced along with the festival’s newest ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ punk district, Diss-order Alley last week. W. de BRUYN. 789.983: 621.395.625.3: 681.84.087.27 The term "electronic music" is sometimes used when compositions, written for conventional musical instruments, are performed with the aid of electronic devices such as the Hammond organ, the "Ündes Martenot" or electtonic music synthesizers **). In recent years, however, the term has come (,0 mean something quite different, being applied to music whose actual composition is based on the use of electronic aids, especially of magnetic recording. These aids can be so employed as to produce entirely new sounds, of which neither the Hammond organ nor any conuentiorusl instrument would be capable. One of the leading figures in this new field of electronic music is the Dutch composer Henk Badings. His radiophonic opera "Ürestes" , in which electronic aids play a substantial part, was awarded the Prix Iuilio. in 1954 and has since received more than 200 performances. In his ballet music "Cain and Abel" - which had its first public performance in May 1956 at The Hague - he makes almost exclusive use of electronic aids. Badings' decision to undertake such an experiment evidently owes much to the fact that, having studied engineering at Delft, he has always been keenly interested in technological problems, particularly in those of an acoustical nature. The fairly extensive range of electrooie instrumerus required to produce "Cain and Abel" was placed at Badings' disposal by Philips Research Laboratories in Eindhoven. It washere that the score was realized jointly by the composer and the co-author of the present article and recorded for performance on magnetic tape.
