EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

"Life Help Centre for the Handicapped' is a voluntary organization rendering services for the disabled and needy since 1978. 'Life Help Centre' was founded by Shri R.S Kannan with a unique mission - to meet the lifespan needs of individuals with disability. Together with his dedicated team. Shri R.S Kannan went on to develop an institution with multifaceted programmes for the disabled arid needy. The institution was registered on 16'" June 1978 under the Tamil Nadu Societies Act. For over 32 years our services have been reflected in every sector - Disability, Education, Rehabilitation. Training. Employment. Health. Rural development. Disaster responds and the support for the Vulnerable group. We. now have our institutions in two States Of (Tamil Nadu and Jammu & Kashmir) and two districts of Tamil Nadu (Chennai and ). Our dedicated service to the disabled and needy. prompt responds to natural disasters and essential awareness programmes are causing the name of Life Help Center to be known far and wide. The report gives consolidated information's about all the activities of Life Help Centre for the Handicapped from 1" April 2009 to 30 1" March 2010. The report covers most of the major activities of all the institution situated in various places. The report is narrated department wise mentioned below.

EVA INTEGRATED HIGH SCHOOL

The objective of Eva Integrated High School is to provide education from I to X STD for the Orthopaedically I tandicapped Children in an integrated set up where 25% of the children are non handicapped. Apart from education. Physiotherapy. I iydrotherapy and special training in mobility with the help of aids and appliances is also provided to the needy children.

As on 30" March 2010. 92 students are perusing their education in various classes of this school and 7 staffs engaged in providing better education for the children of Eva School. S.S.L.0 board examination was conducted in between 23rd March and r April of 2010. From 19" to 29m January 2010 the first revision examination was conducted for the X Std students. The common DEO examination for the class VI to X was conducted from 18 Th to 2e February. I he Common annual examination for the class Ito V was conducted from 1r" to Sn March of 2010.

As on 'I t' April 2009 there were 90 (40 girls and 50 boys) students and 8 staffs in Eva School. In April 2009 the annual examination were conducted for class Ito class IX students from 97' April to 23i0 April 2009. And the class X students wrote their S.S.L.0 examination from 287' March to 8th April 7009 and after the examination the children celebrated their farewell party and left to home for their vacation. The last working day for the school was 25'" April 2009 The annual PTA meeting was also conducted on the same day and the Headmistress, the teaching staffs and many parents attended the meeting. The annual holiday for the staffs was started on 30th April 2009.

In the fiscal year 2009 the Eva school reopened on 3rd June (Wednesday) 2009 and the staffs and students rejoined after their annual vacation. There was 100% promotion in all the classes from Ito class IX. 18 new admissions and 20 Transfer Certificates were processed. From 1st to 3rd June the new student admission were done for all the classes. As part of teachers training programme two 2° 3 grade teachers from Eva School attended ABL training programme at Palavakkam on le and 30th June 2009. The SSLC result published on 15Th June 2010 and there was 100% result in X Standard. On 27th June 2009 the B.Ed teacher's attended ALM training at Neelangarai.

Life Help Centre for the Handicapped _ Annual Rent _ Fisad Year 2009 Page 2 of 26 On 20th April 2009 the DEO of Chengalpet distributed free books for VI to X students at Anna school and our students collected all the books for their current academic. 21st of April the Headmistress organized a review meeting with the teachers. The school Headmistress attended the meeting of DEO and CEO at Columbus School, Chengalpet on 7° July and 14' August 2009. The Head Mistress also attended the DEO meeting on 26-1 0ctober at National High School Tanbaram The quarterly examination was conducted from 1 to 24- September 2009 for the Class Ito Class X. The Hatf-Voarly examination was conducted from December 11th to 23rd for I Standard to IX Standard.

During the academic year the students were engaged in various co cumcular and extra curricular activities which are conducted inside the school as well as outdoor programmes. Around 22 children and 3 staffs attended a science workshop at Kotturpuram Suence planetarium. On 15°1 August the children and staff of this institution celebrated Independence Day. The flag hosting ceremony was organized in school premises and Mrs. S. Prema. School Correspondent hosted the national flag in presence of Ms. Leelavathi. Mr. Sundararajan, Administrative staffs, students. Teachers and other staffs. Few of the students presented speech about INDIA and the importance of celebrating the Independence Day. On 27" August the whole institution celebrated the birthday of institution founder Shit H.S. Kannan On Teachers day (5"' September)the Lions Club of Neelangarai gave an award to Mrs. Prema. S the school correspondent of Life Help Centre for the Handicapped

The students of Eva school celebrated the Wild animals day (6°' September) and participated [n drawing competition organized by Tamil Nadu Forest Department and they all received prize On November 14m the students celebrated Children's day and the teachers organized various competition programmes and distributed prizes for the winners. On 26m October Life Help Centre organized Rhavana Cultural I est for all its institution the students from Eva School participated in various events like Western Dance. Folk Dance. Theme Dance, etc. The students were also participated in various Drstnct and State level event competitions and many of the students won prizes in the event. Dunne World Disabled Day the students from our school participated in an outdoor sports competition and got so many prizes and won Ever-rolling Shield for the institution.

students participated in the programme. On 28 11 09 our school children attended the District sports meet at Melmaruvathur. On 30 m November 2009 School Headmistres lac Ih'l1 Centre lor the Ilandicappnl ,innoof Report _ham! Year 2009 Page 3126 attended the DEO meeting at Anjuham mahal, Kancheepuram. On December Headmistress attended the DEO meeting at St.Joseph higher secondary school. Chengalpet. On World Disabled Day (5 9' December) 50 students arid 10 staffs from our school attended a function at Skruthi foundation, Maharashtra hhavan, Veppery and they got gifts and snacks. On 19t December our children attended World Disable day sports meet at Basket Ball court, Kilpauk Garden. On 24 th December the institution organized Christmas celebration at LHC campus and the children and staffs were participated in the function and shared gifts and sweets each other.

On January 11 1h & it The school headmistress Ms. Leelavathi attended Head Master's training at Columbus school organized by District Education Office and DEO,CEO and four trainers facilitated the sessions. January 19th to 29th SSLC first revision examination conducted in the school. On 2e January 2010 four German people visited the school and its activities. On 21 r4 January 2010 Mrs, Prema. School Coordinator and Ms. Leelavathy. Headmistress attended Chief Minister Function of honoring the handicapped at Valluvarkottam. On 3.01.10 - 2 secondary grade teachers went to ABL training at Palavakkam. On 2e January the Republic day has been celebrated at LHC. flag hoisting done by Mrs. Prema. On 9" February 2010 a staff Meeting has conducted by Mrs. Anita Alexander. Project Coordinator at project office of Life Help Centre for the Handicapped. From February 18 9' to 26'h class VI to class X common examination has been conducted by DEO. From March 1 to 5" Class I to Class V common examination were conducted by LHC. The 16" Std. children attended the SSLC examination from March 23 1' to April 7Th at Eva School.

NAVAPRAJA SPECIAL SCHOOL FOR THE MENTALLY CHALLENGED

The Navapraja Special School is exclusively proposed for the intellectually challenged children between the age group 0 - 22 years with the divisions Early Intervention, Autism, Navapraja Special School, Pre Vocational Training Centre. and I herapy. Children are classified into groups - Care group, Primary - I, Primary - II and Secondary based on their ID and Functional capacities. They are trained in self - help skills and functional academics. They are also provided with special therapies like Speech therapy. Music therapy. Physiotherapy, Yoga therapy, Occupational therapy, Hydro Therapy and Play therapy. Head mistress, Special educators, Non-teaching staff and therapists manage this school. Pre - Vocational Training Centre of Navapraja School is aims to impart pre vocational training to the intellectually challenged adolescents in various simple trades thereby enabling

This in turn helps in integrating them into the mainstream of the society and to earn their livelihood. Children between 16 years to 22 years are enrolled in the Pre - Vocational Training Centre. The trades include Envelope making. Metal work. Tailoring, Horticulture. Home Science Skills and Artificial flower making unit. One chief instructress Special educators, Instructors and Non-teaching staff man this unit.

As on 30" March 2010. 103 students are perusing their education and training in various divisions (Early Intervention. Special School. Prevocational Training Centre and Senior 1 aw Functioning Group) of this school and 16 staffs engaged in providing better education and training for the children of Navapraja Special School.

As on 1'1 April 2009 there were 101 children pursuing education and training under the team of 20 staffs like special educators. Instructors and teachers of this School The special educators and the instructors training and teaching various skills related to Personal activities, Social Activities. Communication skills. Academic activities. occupational activities. recreational activities. etc. The students also gets training in Vocational skills like Home science, Gardening and Horticulture. Craft making, Tailoring, Artificial flower making, envelope making unit. etc

The beginning of the fiscal year 2009 was very busy time for the special educators and instructors for preparing the assessments by conducting evaluation of all the children. The staffs conducted the evaluation tests and also arranged a case conference for each child

with their parents The case conference was started on 13 7' April and as per the prepared schedule the parents of each child attended the case conference. 1 he case conference was lasted up to ze April

The annual PTA meeting was conducted on 25" April 2009 and the staffs and man parents participated in the meeting. During the meeting the new PTA members were also selected And from 25th April the annual vacation for the students stated and most of the children left to their home the same day to enjoy their vacation with family and friends

The new admissions for the classes were started from 1'1 June and till 310 June it continued In this fiscal year the school got reopened on 3' 1 June 2009 and almost all the students joined back the same day. The academic begin a special pow] of the new tailonng unit

Liar llelp Centre for the Handicapped _ Annual Report Ns& Year 2009 Page J of 26 During the new academic 9 students were transferred to Vocational Training Centre of LH( from this school. 16 students from PVTC were transferred to the Adult Developmen Department The tailoring unit from the PVTC has been shifted from the PVTC to the nev trade for VTC girls and the pooja for the same was done on the 3' June 2009.

There were some academic changes in the teachers responsibilities and arrangements o divisions for the easy execution of the programmes. Mrs Manimagalai took in charge o PVTC as well as early intervention department. The Home science and artificial flower making classes were shifted to the down floor of the building. PVTC is only set to providt training for the trades of Horticulture. Artificial flower making unit. envelope making unit, Home science. And the rest will be covered by the Adult Development Centers and Tailoring Unit Later the Adult Development Department converted and renamed as 'Senior Law Functioning Group' and now this Department also provides a severe training setup for all other trades. The snooze room got set up with a water bed and other necessary materials and the hydro therapy pool started functioning and the children have been benefited from this. 22 students got free bus pass from the Madras Transport Corporation. 3 students shifted from Early Intervention to Primary and 8 students wore shifted to Eva school from Secondary In the Fiscal year our students were involved in many co-curricular and extra curricular activities organized in vanous places. From the 3 .° July to eh July. the Special Olympics were conducted at St. Joseph's Engineering College and our children participated and won 6 gold medals. 9 silver and 6 bronze medals. On the 15" August, the Independence Day was celebrated and the children performed cultural programmes. The early intervention kids were praised by the Director for their lovely performance. On 2C October Life Help Centre organized Bhavana Cultural Fest for all its institution the students participated in various events like Western Dance, Folk Dance. Theme. Dance. etc. On the 14" November. the children's day was celebrated. On world disabled day the children from this school attended a meeting and celebrated the day. On the 20" December 7008. the Chnstmas celebration was conducted and the children performed cultural programmes and they received gifts. On 26'" January the Republic day was celebrated in the premises of Life Help Centre. The students also participated in District level sports meet and won 28 prizes for the school. On the 20" June, the staff aking with the project office staff went for an excursion to Thiruvendadhai

On 27 th June the special educators and therapist attended an orientation programme facilitated by Dr. Visalam. From the 18 th to the 20th Feb 2009. 2 staff attended a training programme at NIEPM0 on Sensory Integration. On the 26"' Feb. the Headmistress attended a meeting on All India Federation for the Mentally Challenged Persons. On the 7'h March, Ms. Pnya Clinical Psychologist from SRMC. Porto conducted one day workshop on learn co-ordination and behavior modification' for the teaching a training staffs of the institution. The therapist attended a one week workshop which was conducted by the Therapist from Germany on NDT and Sensory Integration.

On the 24' July, the headmistress of the school attended the screening camp for the Early Intervention department. On 20'1 June. one special educator attended the early intervention screening camp it Mihibalipuram.

During this fiscal year professionals from other institutions were visited our school and they got orientation about all our activities. On the 8th April. 17 trainees and 2 nursing tutors visited the activities of our school from M. A. Chidambaram School of Nursing. On the 15 0' February 15 DVR trainees & one guide from Navajothi Trust visited all the classroom and activities of the children. On the 25" February around 15 trainees of the D.Ed (MR) course 8 2 guide teachers from CSI Balagnanar IIlam, Salem visited all the classroom and observed activities for the children From 19th March to 24"' march. 3.1 Term Evaluation was conducted for the students. From 29th March to 6th April class wise case conference was conducted to descnbe the performance of the children with their parents.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE

*Vocational training centre' of Life Help Centre offers multifaceted training programmes for the disabled adults. The unit gives admission for both orthopedically and intellectually challenged young adults between the age group of 22 - 35 years. The Training centre consists of various divisions like Printing press, Injection Molding Unit. Screen Printing Unit and the orthopedic Appliances Unit managed by trained orthopedist.

As on 30th March 2010, 29 trainees are perusing their training in various divisions and 14 staffs engaged in providing better training for the trainees of our Vocational Training Centre. The 6 students have been identified for job placement after the successful completion of their 3 years training.

Life Help Centredfor Me Handicapped _Annual Ripon _ Fiscal Year 2(109 Pace 7.J YR The last working day for the training centre was 3e April 2009. The annual holiday for the trainees and staffs was started on 30"1 April 2009. 3 students have been placed on jobs in the open employment after a period of 3 years training (. The training centre reopened on 3rd June (Wednesday) 2009 and the staffs and students rejoined after their annual vacation. There were 26 trainees (Printing Pres-8. Screen Printing-8, Injection Molding-7 and Orthopedic Unit — 3) and 12 staffs in the training centre. From 1st to 3rd June the new student admission were open for all the divisions. The Deputy Director and the Vocational Counselor of Vocational Rehabilitation Centre in Guindy. Chennai visited Vocational Training Centre and Registered all trainees name and issued registration card to all the trainees. On 11 m March 2010 few nursinf students came for an institution visit and observed the activities of the centre. As part of the exposure visits the trainees went to Kannan printing press and Saratha Press situated at Palavakkarn. The trainees also Participated in Human chain at Marina beach on World Disabled. iho trainees participated in Special Olympics and won medals and prizes. On the 15' August. the Independence Day was celebrated and the children performed cultural programmes. On 26'" October Life Help Centre organized Bhavana Cultural Fest for all its institutions and the trainees appeared in a dance programme.

The training team had made a decision to start the new fiscal year with few changes fom Apnl onwards like Mr. Alexander has promoted as the in-charge for the Vocational Training Centre for the Boys Section. The annual holiday is scheduled to start on 22nd Apnl 2010. The evaluation for the students was planned for the month of April.

The department is a new rising of the Life Help Centre for the Handicapped and it was started in September 2006. It aims to give better training for those who are interested and self motivated to provide support for the intellectually challenged children and adults. All the courses offered in this institution are recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India-A Statutory Body under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. COURSES OFFERED - DSE (MR) - Diploma in Special Education (Mental Retardation) This course is to emerge as the training institute to prepare special educators to screen. assess and leach students with Mental Retardation and associated disabilities in individual arid or group settings. DVR (MR) - Diploma in Vocational Rehabilitation (Mental Retardation) I his course is to emerge as the training institute to develop a professional who has skills to plan and execute effective programmes for vocational training and employment of persons with Mental Retardation, which ensure quality output and productivity. DEC&SE (MR) - Diploma in Early Childhood and Special Education (Mental Retardation) This course motivates the special educators to care and develop living skills of the children below 6 years of age. The course has various modes and avenues of imparting training based on the ability of the target group children. Further the educators can enroll in different settings like home based training, centre based training, regular pre-schools or Anganwadis or balawadis. As on 30th March 2010, 60 trainees are perusing their training in various courses and 5 staffs engaged in providing better training. I he centre is prepared for a visit from the RC] inspection for the courses D.Ed (MR) renewal and B. Ed (MR). The external practical sessions for all the three courses are scheduled for 14111 April to the 2e. April.

In the fiscal year 7009 the annual holiday for the trainees and staffs was started on 19 th June 2009. The department reopened on 8 th July 2009 and the staffs and students rejoined after their annual vacation. During the month of March, the final practical examination was conducted for the students. During the month of May, the final examination was conducted for the students by the Manipal University. Since our centre was the study centre for the various other institutions the examinations were conducted in our school. All students got passed out this year arid

The Assessment for the new courses namely B. Ed - Special Education and the Dip. F.C.S. E was conducted on the 30 :9 May 2009. The admission work was carried out in the month of July 2009. An advertisement was published for the same and certain awareness programme is being conducted in various districts. The course brochures and admission information were forwarded to many NGO's & DDRO Office. Follow up to the letter correspondence admission and application forms were sent to the respondents. In the same month the interview has conducted for the candidates. The new course Diploma in Early Childhood Special Education was started on September 91. 2009.

Processing of time table/Action plan for the sem I & Ill for DVR (MR) was initiated. Allocation of subjects to the staff & Observation classes for new students & started theory classes were done. All the students were passed out with Distinction in this academic year. The Fresher's day was celebrated for D.Ed & (DVR) & Diploma in Early Childhood Special Education (DECSE) in the centre. The trainees gone for an institutional Visit at NIEPMD. Muttukadu & Subothini Chennai. The trainees also attended a workshop on Arts & Craft. As part of the academic process Guest lectures were appointed for Theory papers. The Portions were completed for I & Ill Semester - D.ED students and the final examination was conducted for the students by Manion! University in December 2009. Mr.M.Kalaiyarasan developed innovative adaptive devices persons for the mentally retarded at Pre Vocational level & Vocational level. The trainees attended various seminars and training like Life Skill programme, Seminar on Concessions & Benefits for the disabled at Chennai State Commissioner Office, Workshop on first Aid inviting resource person from St.John's Ambulance. The trainees participated in the Independence Day celebration, republic day celebrations. They also participated and performed cultural at the Bhavana Cultural fest. New proposals were applied to RCI to start the Diploma in Early Childhood arid Special Education and the B.

Project work was done by DSE (MR) final year students under the guidance of the faculties Ms. Jayanthi has resigned the job in the month of December 2009 due to personal commitments and Ms. Nisha has take over the position. Permanent Recognition was obtained for the DVR course from the Rehabilitation Council of India (Rel). The papers were submitted regarding the recognition purpose for the B.Ed. course. On Jan 5" the staff meeting was conducted and allocated the subjects for the respective staff. Practical work was started in LHC model school. The students were divided among the staff for the project work. Allocated the project topics to the students by their respective staff Our institution become the study centre for BEd (SE-MR)- Distance education under Tamil Nadu Open University All final year DSE achieved 100% result. As on 30" March 2010. 10 staffs engaged in the process of washing and ironing. THe monthly turn over was 40,000 approximately One Washing Machine & One Hydro Machine got serviced recently. Green Valley Spring Packaged Drinking Water As on 30?' March 2010, 15 staffs engaged in the production and delivery of the water cans. The average monthly production was around 21500 jars and monthly turn over was about Rs.190000/.. . Recently the Raw Water automatic motor & Buffer tank motor and switch got replaced. A Chemical Wash done in the water plant by MIS. EXCEI. WATER SYS I EMS. 150 nos. of now bubble tops purchased. Raw water & Monthly test was done by M/s. Sargam Laboratory. There is plan of action to shift the Existing Shed Used for the Filling of Bubble tops to the Bottling Unit and the Bottling Plant has to be Removed as per the Instructions of the ISI Authorities. The process is budgeted around INR.435.0001- And the current space will be taken over by Vocational Training Centre for their activities. DISASTER MITIGATION PROGRAMMES

Life Help Disaster Management and Coordination Unit were in the process of implement a better Disaster Preparedness in community and national level The team had plan of action and by the end of December 2008 they achieved the project objectives. The unit enlisted a total of 107 relief managers in to Life Help Task Force from five stales of India and provided Disaster Management training for 461 villagers in the selected 18 villages of and they are named as Life Help Volunteers. The team also processed a core team workshop and volunteers meet in the end project. The Fiscal year start with the process of Sphere IAG coordination meetings and the representatives Mr. Antony Joseph and Mr George Johnson were updated with the information. As a new initiative LHTF became part of Sphere India's Inter Agency Coordination and LHTF became a member of that Inter Agency Group (IAG). This IAG is a process of coordinating all the humanitarian process in a combined manner and Sphere India expect solidarity from each member of this !AC Kurnool Flood Relief Programme — October 2009 The massive flood in the Krishna River wreaked havoc in Kurnool. Krishna, Guntur and Nalgonda districts of Andhra Pradesh as enormous quantities of water were released from Naganunasagar dam and Vijayawadas Prakasam Barrage inundating about 478 villages in 87 mandals, including all island habitations. Over 13 lakh people were affected in five districts of Andhra Pradesh following unprecedented floods In Krishna river basin which has claimed 86 lives. The flood claimed 15 lives and 6,189 cattle loss in the worst-affected Kurnool district About 25.000 people were trapped in Kurnool town as worst floods in recent memory inundated the distnct in Andhra Pradesh triggered by heavy rains in Karnataka. Also the famous temple town of Mantralaya, the seat of Raghavendra Mutt in Kurnool district. was submerged under water and people climbed to rooftops to save themselves from the heaviest flood in River Krishna ever in more than 100 years.

By analyzing the situation Life Help Centre responded immediately and a medical team of 8 members traveled up to Kurnool from Chennai along with an ambulance carrying enough stock of medicines. The State Volunteers of Life Help Task Force were in the field to support the medical

The team implemented free general medical camps in the affected villages of Kurnool district for six days and reached more than 14 villages and 2674 people were benefited out of this intervention. Simultaneously our team did an assessment and they found the need of Drinking water. Cloths, Temporary shelters arid improvement of sanitation facilities. Based on the need assessment we found the immediate need of cloths we mobilized clean and neat cloths from Chennai and it has transported to our Life Help Task Force office opened in Kurnool.

House keeping Department is taking care of the cleanliness of the Campus. At present there are 10 staff in this unit.

1111:Soms INFRASTRUCTURE AND RESIDENTIAL FACILITIES

Residential Facilities Residential care is provided to the students as well as lady staffs from far off places. Two types of Hostel facilities namely the Dormitory type for the orthopaedically handicapped children separate for boys and girls and cottage type exclusively for the intellectually challenged children. Life Help Centre is providing hostel facilities for the staff who are physically handicapped and also the other Staff who are working. There are also trainees accommodated who are studying in the LIISSE. There is totally 53 staff staying in the hostel.

As on 30." march 2010 there are 11 staffs engaged to cater the children and to manage mess. The number of children and staff taking food in the mess are 160. As on 1't April 2009 there were 11 staffs for manage the mess and hostel. There were 113 students and staffs availing the facilities of mess. During this penod only 6 cottages were functioning accommodating 74 children. Each cottage accommodated 12 children and one caretaker. The hostel for the children was dosed on the 22-4 April 2009. The women's hostel was functioning for the staff of the Lt-IC. Food Menu is changed for every month and it is folkmot in the whole month. During this reporting period we received 24 food sponsors. One new refrigerator was provided by our Director for the Mess purpose. At the time of Bhavana cultural fest - Lunch was provided for nearly 300 Children. For the Christmas function snacks was prepared and served for nearly 800 people_ Boiler Pipe line and steam line was serviced. The registers maintained in the Department are Weight chart register. As on 30''' March 2010, there are 62 students in the Special School arid 15 students in the early Intervention. 12 staffs engaged in providing better training for the children of this School. The administration team in the process of appointing new staffs in the school. DRO from Cuddaloro visited the school on 24.02.2010 III term Evaluation Conducted from 22.03.2010 to 27 03 2010. III term Assessment done for all the children. Staff meeting is planned to conduct on 26 04.2010. IT is scheduled that The annual vaccasion is scheduled to start from 21" April 2010. As on Apnl 2009 there were 61 students (Mild -25. Moderate 26 and Severe- 10) and 15 staffs in this School. 3 new admissions were given for hostel. Total no of hostel children is 10 3 Children left from school in July. Special Educators and Therapist Conducted the Team counseling programme on 21in July. DRO. The Children between the age group of 0 - 4 years are attending the programme and the skills concentrated are. Activities of Daily living. Motor Skills. Socialization and play activities 9 Children between the age group of 4 -6 years are attending programme and the skills concentrated are Communication. Personal daily living (PDL), Pre-Writing and play activities 10 Students were given Physiotherapy regularly. All the children are attending speech Therapy. occupational Therapy 8 Yoga Therapy. Assessment has been completed for all the Children and Evaluation has been done with parents. Syllabus and notes of lessen was prepared for all the children. Individualized educational programme (ILP) has been planned for all students. Medical Check up was done for all children

As part of Extracurricular activities the staffs and students celebrated Independence Day Ayudha pooja and Children's day in the school premises. The students also participated in the Bhavana cultural programme. The staffs and children also celebrated the Mental Retardation day.

As on 301 March 2010 there were two doctors and 8 other nursing and paramedical staffs wore engaged in the patient care and No. of out patients visited the hospital is 1435 out of 590 were females. 258 males. 215 Female children and 371 male children. There were 25 number of patients did lab lest in the recent month. The tests were done for Blood sugar level, Blood group, Hemoglobin content. Urine. Cram dex As on April 1 s. there were a team of 7 people including doctors, Nurses. Lab Technician and Para medical staffs. There was an average vise of 850 patients per month. The Health Clinic

All the records were shown to them. They also made a visit to the town office for FSW project Mr. Dominic was appointed as the Lab cum X - ray Technician on 2' March 2009. A general medical checkup was done to 260 thildren of Rnthna School and LIMPS General checkup including TB 8 Anemic was conducted BM/ team visited the Laboratory en 27" April 2009. From June to December 2009, 4283 patients attended the Out Patient treatment 119 people did the lab test in the health centre Blood group tested for 31 school children (LHNPS) The common test dine in the lab were NB. TC , DC, Blood Sugar. FSR, Unne Pregnancy. The out patient fees have been increased to Rs 20. Dr. Baskar is in OP from morning to I unch and Dr. Maragatham is in OP from afternoon to Lveninu. We MI be collecting a small amount for medicines from next month onwards. On an average daily 20 out patient visit the Health Centre for Treatment. The TANSAC Community Care Centre project was sanctioned to Life Help Centre. Life Help CenUe is got the permission to operate the centre at TB Hospital situated at Kaper hills. The district collector of Cuddalore has issued an order to I HC to initiate the Community Care Centre with TB Sanatorium under Public Private Partnership programme. It Is a pilot project basically modelled in two districts, namely Sivagangai and Cuddalore districts. The Total Budget for One Year being INR.9,08.000:- Has been Received for the Same. the inauguration programme of this pilot project was conducted in TB hospital - Capper Hills. Cuddalore on March 26* 7010. As on 30" March 2010 there are 9 staffs as per the project agreement. Total No. of patients registered are 33 numbers and among them 13 are inpatients LIFE HELP CHILDREN'S VILLAGE

Totally 11 homes have been occupied dunng this reporting period There are Orphan & Semi-orphan children stays in the homes and they are facilitated with good atmosphere to live and study free of cost Ms. Sharmiugapriya was the home in-charge until January 2009. She resigned her job in the month of February 2009. In March 2009, Mr.G.Rathan.D.Ragland was appointed as the Home In-charge. We have appointed efficient and humble ladies as home mothers in order to take care of the children as their own children. Most of thorn are widow or abandoned women. By the end of March 2009 there are totally 11 mothers working in the children s home Each home has one house mother taking care of the children. By the end of March 2009 the total strength of children in the homes is 88: in which 53 are boys and 35 are girls.

This was monitored by the Homo In-charge. In the month of July snacks liko sandal and biscuits were added to the menu which was served in the evening everyday. School matenals such as books. notebooks. pen, penal. geometry box, etc Were supplied to the home children School uniforms were issued to the children in the month of July. All children wrote their first midterm test in the moth of July. The quarterly examination was held

in the month of September. Alter the examination all children went to home for holidays Admission was given to 4 children in the home in the month of September. Two tuition teachers were appointed namely Ms. Rent, and Mr Velavan in September. Medical checkup for all the children was done in the last week of March 2009. Counseling regarding preparation for examination was given in the month of March Every month provisions are being sent from Chennai to Coddalore based on the request given. All the cottages were provided with cots, beds, pillows, house hold items, furniture's. etc.

Provisions were supplied by Head Office in the first week of every month. Tuition classes are going on daily from 7 to 8 30 in the morning and 4.30 to 6 in the evening. Meeting was conducted for both mothers and children on 18 02.09. Home mothers meetings with the Home Manager are conducted regularly weekly once. Few children were sent to their native place for treatment as they were affected by chicken pox. Counseling regarding preparation for examination was given in the month of March. Annual examinations were conducted in the month of April. The home was closed at the end April due to summer holidays. On 311 of June Children's Home was opened as the school started after the summer holidays. On 14.0/.09 kitchen and dining was opened. There is 12 staff engaged to fulfill the responsibilities of this department A now maintenance in-charge person has been appointed Fire Extinguish fixed in the school premises. The vehicle Swarai Mazda - permit surrender work has been completed and new permit is under progress. Rico mill machineries erection work is under progress.

In Rathna Residence currently 10 children are there, in which 8 are boys and 2 are girls There are 7 mothers in Children's Home and 2 mothers in RSS Residence as on June 22. The food menu is revised every month.

SPECIAL SCHOOL

As on March 301] 2010 there are 16 staff members at LHCCC campus which includes Part time Doctor. Interim Project Coordinator. and Special Educators, Therapist team, caretakers. cook, drivers and helpers. There were 52 children pursuing training at our institution and out of which 34 are daycare and 18 are hostlers. The school got reopened on e March 2010 as per the instructions of Directorate of school education, J&K State. New Physiotherapist Mr. Tajamul was appointed on 1° March 2010. New Speech Pathologist Ms. Shahiqa was appointed on i s April 2010. One more driver, Mr Naze Ahmad was also appointed on 1` March 2010.

As on 1'd April 2009 there were 18 staffs engaged in the school and hostel activities. There were 51 students pursuing training and education at our institution. Admission procedure is prepared and shared with all the staff for maintain the system. Fees structure has been streamlined for both Day Care and the residential children considering the economic status of each family. Parents are co-operating to make the monthly fees payment before bt of every month. At present we have 28 children who are picked up and dropped at their residences by our Tata Sumo vehicle. The vehicle makes two trips both in the morning and miming 26 children were newly admitted in our School. There was a winter vacation from 161" December to 1' March2009. The entire team took efforts to bring more children around Srinagar and Badugam District. It was mainly possible as the School team and our Maintenance staff was given the target to get more children by making visits to their uwn area as a part of their winter duty. The major administrative activities are follows; School got recognition under Social Welfare Department. J&K State. From the month of July 2009. the Office Secretary/Accountant took charge as Interim Project Co-ordinator after M y Rajan. Project Co-ordinator left the job. From the month of August 2000, the new monitoring officer for the LHCCC was Mrs. Sujaya Rengarajan. Leave matters - Rules were circulated among the stall The Office Secretary was made to visit the office on daily basis for two hours in the morning where most of the cases were registered. In addition to that we organized Therapy for the children who are close to our School on every fortnight and our Therapist co-operated. With their support only we could manage to enroll the required strength for our School. We follow the. MDPS- Behavioral Scale syllabus and all the teachers are trained on assessment of a child, preparing the lesson plan. The FleetAilture Dept received us well and our children had a nice time to visit the garden 20 of our children visited the neighboring Government School and interacted with the school children and they all felt happy. 5 of our Children had left to Amntsar, Punjab to participate in the National Coaching Camp under Special Olympics Bharat to be held from 22 na to 28" June 09. SSP (I ratfic) was approached to transport along with our children and three more Special School children also joined with care takers from the respective Institutions. The children visited the Airport at Srinagar. Initially we represented to Director of School Education to grant recognition of our School. Discussion was hold with the Director of Social Welfare and the necessary documents were submitted in the beginning of April 09 and it is under process. The school team conducted weekly and monthly meetings with the respective section. I he School timing was changed according to the Govt. announcement. Children - 9 30am to 3.30pm and for staff - 9.30 am to 4.30pm. The therapy department conducted therapy sessions for our daycare children on every fortnightly & teaching staff made home visit during winter period_ In hostel three children left due to their ill health &new children admitted at their place. As we have approached Regional Transport office for fresh permits of school bus and got the documents. Mr Sharneem Ahmad. Dnver visited school once in a week to check the working condition of the school vehicle during winter vacations. According to the winter therapy plan given by therapists. Parents were insisted to follow the system.. Caretakers & Helpers visited the school and cleaned the whole campus. They also helped therapists during the winter therapy session. 1.-1 quarter IEP was also prepared for each & every child according to his /her abilities by teaching staff. The Yoga therapy was introduced during the morning assembly. The Pro- vocational training such as home science - girls and gardening - boys was introduced for the secondary class children. Two fire extinguishers of 2 kg have been installed in school campus by IMPA

Ms Diane Emerson visited & interacted with children as she is working voluntarily with International Handicapped NGO at Ganderbal. Interim Project Co-ordinator and Special Educator attended the sports awareness programme conducted by Shafaqat Special School and met R.S Chib. Sports Minister who was the chief guest and handed over brochure to him. He assured that after Darbar move he will arrange a visit to the school. The students arid staff celebrated Children's Day which was sponsored by Human Welfare Voluntary Organization and National Mentally Retarded Day inside the school campus. The events were published in the newspapers. An article on Special School-LHCCC was published in Reality Bites Magazine. The staff attended workshop on State of Recovery and Rehabilitation in Earthquake Affected Jammu & Kashmir and the Future Strategies towards Resilience organized by CEE Himalaya and Welthungerhilfe. The staff attended orientation programme organized by Special Olympics Bharat regarding Medical Camp. The children and staff attended Medfest medical camp on Aug 30 th 2009 conducted by Special Olympics Bharat, J&K State. The Appreciation Award and Award of Excellence Memento were received. the staff participated in the Special Olympics training programme for 5 days in Jammu State. The staff members attended function which was conducted by "Rising Kashmir' one of the leading newspaper agency in Kashmir.

HOSTEL, MESS & MAINTENANCE

As on 30th March 2010 there are 17 children stays in the Hostel. Out of which 5 of them are girls and 12 of them are boys. We have 3 female care takers. one male care taker and one cook in our residential facilities. Residential children have their routine every day. Care takers ensure that all the children are clean and healthy. Children are given nutritious food three times a day as per our menu which is prepared on a monthly basis. Provisions are purchased on a monthly basis and vegetable on a weekly basis. Two times egg and one lime Non Vegetarian food is served. Children are entertained to out door games and recreational activities. They enjoy watching TV in the evening. TV show was conducted on April 17 3. as a recreational therapy. Animation movies were displayed for the children. The mess is managed by the cook. helper arid other care takers. The team maintains a stock register arid provisions are purchased locally in bulk. The care takers do the regular cleaning of all the campus rooms. The care takers are also catering the student's needs and help them to maintain cleanliness and hygiene. The vehicle is regularly serviced by the drivers and they wash the vehicles. The new vehicle Tata rider is bought in this fiscal year and it helped acquire more children to the institution.

In the month of February 2010, Mrs. Anita Claudia Alexander was shifted from Central Administration to Project Office as a Project Co-ordinator for Chennai division. Mr. Antony. Monitoring Officer. LHCRRD, Cuddalore resigned his job in the month of January 2010. Mrs. K Prema's designation was changed as a Personal Secretary w e f the month of March 2010. Mrs. S. Prema was promoted as a School Correspondent from March 2010.
