27 ORIENTATION CEREMONY- 2017, 17th July, 2017

On 17thJuly, 2017, an orientation ceremony was organised for all new students. A brief presentation was given by dignitaries about the university academics and different ac- tivities which are being organised every year. After the presentation the students had snacks. After that we moved to the different labs which are in the first year curriculum and thereafter we visited different Blocks of the university.

ACTIVITIES for First Year- 2017 1. I am what I am: This activity was to have interaction among the students. In this interaction we asked students name along with the latest technology and application they are using regularly.

2. SDO Interaction: Our SDO interacted with students by making them aware about different clubs running in our university. We also asked them to register in any club either online or offline through respective stu- dent coordinator. Also we had put on a registration desk in engineering block and found students motivated for different clubs.

3. Computer Hardware Quiz: To give them knowledge about different hardware components including basic working functionality of each hardware component. 4. Technical based discussion: To give students knowledge about the technical fields and knowing their interest. Students were encouraged to use linux platform and use it for programming skills. 5. Group Discussion: Students express their different kinds of views on various topics which also helped in boosting their confidence. 6. Speech: From this Activity the students will overcome the stage fear and also develop communication skills. 7.INRSS WORKSHOP: This activity gives them knowledge about navigational satellite system and their functioning in research areas. After this session students came to know about INRSS and its importance.

Workshop on J2EE Workshop It is very well said “If you are not willing to learn no one can help you, if you are determined to learn, then No one can STOP you”. With this same enthusiasm the B. Tech- CSE final year students all gathered at the lab on 20th September, 2017 to attend a workshop on J2EE Springs and Hibernate conducted by Mr. Kapil Bhardwaj from Q3 Logic. It all started with the basics of JDBC and within no time the students managed to get an insight of various topics such as J2EE, web Serv- ers, Application Servers, Design patterns (Singleton, Factory etc), CURD operations, Framework, Controller, Mvc, IOC, Deployment descriptor, Struts, Hibernate, JAAS, POJO class, annotations to name a few. Between the busy placement schedules this workshop certainly came as a “blessing in disguise” as they managed to brush up their concepts on the most demanded topic by the industries these days. 28 Objectives

This workshop enables students to use the Spring MVC Framework. This workshop provides students with the skills to write effective web applications using Spring MVC. During the workshop the student wrote many components building up to a fully working application to ensure that the material taught is fully understood and practical experience is gained. At the end of this workshop the students are able to:

• Understand the benefits of using Spring MVC

• Understand and be able to write all components of a Spring MVC application

• Configure a Spring MVC application

• Use the various custom tags that Spring MVC supplies

• Use Spring MVC Error Handling

• Use form validation

• Write unit tests for components

Introduction to Hibernate Framework

Hibernate workshop that teaches students the most popular object-relational O/R mapping framework for Java environ- ments. Object relational mapping in large enterprise applications is difficult. The task is so difficult that the problem of storing and retrieving objects to a relational database has its own name – impedance mismatch. In this class, students learn object-relational mapping concepts and the various issues and options available in Java to address object per- sistence. Workshop Instructor Information

74 Extension activities: Water Quality Service Water is the most basic necessity of life. We require plenty of water every day for various needs. Purity and quality of water keeps major concern, but many rural areas are struggling hard for good quality of water. Stu- dents of JECRC University under the guidance of Prof. Priyanka Dhingra, Head Department of Chemistry took initiative to analyse water of near side rural areas and to make people aware about the quality of water of their areas. They visited Siroli,Vatika,Vidhani village for survey nearby JECRC University, Jaipur, collected water samples being used for drinking by the native people of those areas for testing of some important parameters which could detect the quality of water. Some standards are being set up by World Health Organisation (WHO) & The International Organisation for Standardization (ISO) describing about the quality of water eligible for several purpose. The WHO has published guidelines for drinking water quality in 2011 & ISO published regulation of water quality in the section of ICS 13.060, ranging from water sampling, drinking water, industrial class water, sewage, & examination of water for Chemical, Physical or Biological properties ICS 19.140.60 covers the standards of water supply system. The analysis of collected samples on the basis of presence of Cl, F, Dissolved Oxygen, TDSdetermination, Hardness of water & presence of Co2 was done. Finally, an awareness drive to the places visited through during survey for the betterment of people & made some usefulworthy suggestions that are to use more & more boiled water and if possible use RO purified water for drinking purpose & requested to follow them so that adverse effect of bad quality of water can be minimised. Students made them aware about the life threatening diseases which can be brought by contaminated water. The prime motive of this survey was to spread more & more awareness among people & make them health conscious & to educate them to live salubrious life.

75 Academic visit to Geological survey of India, Western Region Jaipur 27thapril, 2018 Geological survey of India western region provided a golden opportunity to the students of JECRC Universi- ty of chemistry-, M.Sc previous, final year and B.Sc final year to visit various laboratories on th27 april, 2018. The main objective of visit was to extend the knowledge of student about the working & operation of AAS (atomic absorption spectroscopy),Flame Photometer, XRF (X-ray florescence) and ICP-MS (inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry). First the principle and working of AAS, was explained by Ms. Sohona Gangopadhyay which is an analytical method based on absorption of UV or visible light by gaseous atoms. The sample becomes atomised by in- jecting a solution into a flame or by heating a dried sample in an energized graphite tube. These atoms of the sample molecule in the flame absorb the wavelength of monochromatic light. The absorption is proportional to the concentration & path of light travelled as it is based on Beer-lambert law. This technique has a wide application for determining the transition metal elements (iron, copper, gold, manganese etc.) in soil, blood, rock samples. Then the working ofFlame photometer was explained by the senior chemist Mr. Pankaj Tiwari. Flame pho- tometer is an instrument used in inorganic chemical analysis to determine the concentration of metal ions – Sodium, Potassium, Lithium, and Calcium the Group 1 and 2 metals are quite sensitive to flame due to their low excitation energies. Before its use the calibration is required with series of standard solutions of the ions to be tested. Further the working of XRF was explained by Ms. Vinita which is the emission of characteristic florescent x-rays of certain wavelength from material which the inner electron excited by bombarding with high energy x-rays. This phenomenon is widely used in investigation of metals glass ceramics and building materials in geochemistry, forensics, archaeology & art objects. The working of pressed pellet making machine was also explained which is a type of mill or machine press used to create pellet of XRF samples from powdered mate- rials. Finally, the explanation of working of ICP-MS was explained by Mr. Sandeep Singh Shekhawat. ICP-MS is a type of mass spectrometry capable of detecting metals and non-metals at concentration as low as one part in 1015 ppq (parts per quadrillion) in sources like blood, serum, urine and water. This technology couples use of an ICP with MS for elemental analysis by generation of ions. The ICP involved in generation of high tempera- ture plasma source at 10,000 Celsius. The elements in the sample at such high temperature are ionized and further into MS. The MS then sorts ions according to their mass/charge ratio by directing them into electron multiplier tube detector. The research scholars of GSI shared their experiences, knowledge with the students. The students were taken to special section and got the chance to understand the functioning of instruments by performing exper- iments. The students showed their interest and actively participated in interactive sessions with research scholars. Overall the visit was an interactive forum for exchange of knowledge and opportunities for stimu- lating young minds.

127 Department of Training & Placement Placements at JECRC University have proven to be a boon in the career of all the students. JECRC University students get opportunities across a wide range of industries and companies visiting the campus every year with attractive salary packages and profiles to match students’ expectations. Once the placement season commences, one can feel the vibrant environment on the campus. Talents go barely unrecognized in the JECRC University as we leave no stone unturned, to place our students. At present, the competition for employment is increasing every day and placement has become a challenging task. Training of students and equipping them with life skills has become an important responsibility of the 128 institution. Along with technical expertise, development of a holistic personality is also necessary. To meet out these requirements, a fully-fledged training cell is operating in our University to enhance the capabilities of students on par with the industry standards. Once a student enters JECRC University, the Institution takes the entire responsibility to develop that indi- vidual into a personality. They are left open to a humpty number of choices lying in front of them to choose in parallel to their academics. JECRC believes in enhancing its students through dedicated concentration on each and every student and sees to that everyone enhances their talents with the opportunities they are provided with.

The key responsibilities of the Training & Placement Cell are:

• To organise campus interviews for final year students with industries and business houses of repute from all over India.

• To prepare students to face campus interviews, JU conducts In house training and has collaboration with professional trainers by arranging training in Aptitude tests, group discussions, preparing for Technical and HR interviews religiously.

• To promote career counseling by organising guidance lectures by senior corporate personnel and most importantly by the alumnus.

• JECRC University has been consistently setting milestones of campus placements amongst private institutions in India. Producing graduates who are well equipped to handle the working norms of the industry and commerce in the public and the private sectors has been the primary aim of the university. • The Placement Cell at JECRC University works professionally to identify and bridge training gaps in terms of skills required by the Industry to explore opportunities for students for placements. The Cell makes its best efforts to reach out to all sub-sectors of the industry in order to ensure that JECRC University graduates spread across the industry. • We even encourage our students to take opportunity in non-governmental organisation. In this ini- tiative we arranged workshops from Teach for India for placement of our students in their fellowship program leading to direct employment. The Government Job Cell in the university trains our stu- dents for various competitive and administrative examinations for those who aspire to participate in the civil services examinations. We arranged a workshop from ALS IAS Academy who helped students understand the examination process and offered their services for their success. • JECRC University students gain valuable work experience through the internships provided, espe- cially if students are looking to work in a specific career field. Since relevant work experience is one of the key qualifications companies look for when comparing candidates for a job or internship, completing several internships during college greatly increases the chances of being selected for a job after graduation. JECRC believes even though its students gain the knowledge required for suc- ceeding in a specific career through their University courses and curriculum, internships are one of the best ways to develop the required skills necessary to gain the experience required to be successful in the field. • Training and Placement Cell is a facilitation unit which is responsible for interacting with various industrial, management and research organisations in the country and abroad with the dual aim of ensuring that the students are given adequate technical exposure / industrial training for B.Tech. & other courses enabling them to get employment in organisations whose functional requirements of high caliber engineers, scientists and managers are best met by graduate and post-graduate students of the Institute. • JECRC University organises lectures and workshops, webinars, Skype calls with seniors to provide supplemental information on career counseling, interview techniques, soft skills development and introduction to industrial sectors / the professional world.

• In collaboration with TCS, JECRC University students participated in their entrepreneurial pro- gram called Digital Impact Square (DISQ) which is a novel initiative by the company to identify the students interested to work in research areas that impact human lives and contribute to the society. 129 In new technology areas, JECRC University identified a batch of 250 students trained them on SALESFORCE, a cloud based CRM platform which is in high demand by various corporate. • The session of 2017- 2018 at the JECRC University has seen a great placement season so far despite huge challenges in the job market, companies cutting their workforce, new skill demand areas cre- ated and the overall scenario was quite gloomy but with the aggressive corporate connect program & sustained focus on developing new skill areas for the students we achieved healthy placement numbers.
