Dear Parent Curro Aurora – a Recipe for Success It Is Important for Any Date: 7 February 2020 Issue no.: 4 Dear Parent Curro Aurora – A recipe for Success It is important for any institution to understand, acknowledge and support the processes and contributions of the main role players that ultimately determine the level of success that is achieved. Without these partnerships and ongoing collaboration, no school will be able reach its full potential. Thanks to the passionate learner community, dedicated staff compliment and supportive parent body, Curro Aurora is performing exceptionally well and is well on its way to reaching its full potential. I firmly believe that the elements listed below are essential to ensure that we are successful at helping all students achieve academically and helping them to be caring, contributing, productive, and responsible citizens. Vision: having a common understanding of goals, principles and expectations for everyone in the learning community; Leadership: having a group of individuals dedicated to helping the learning community reach its goals; High Academic Standards: making sure all our learners reach their full potential in a creative and supportive environment; Standards of the Heart: helping all within the learning community become caring, contributing, productive, and responsible citizens; Family School and Community Partnerships: "making room at the table" for all role players; Professional Development: providing consistent, meaningful opportunities for teachers to engage in continuous learning; Equity, diversity, fairness, and inclusiveness must be a part of every aspect of education. It should permeate everything that happens in the school. This includes every program; every classroom environment, curriculum; and every policy and procedure of the school. I look forward to the 2020 academic year, during which we will continue, to not only embrace these elements, but also the Curro values of Child Friendliness, Positive Discipline, Christian Values and Creative Thinking. MATHEMATICS OLYMPIAD The South African Mathematics Olympiad is the largest Olympiad in South Africa and we would like to encourage our learners to participate. It is voluntary and open to all Grade 8 and 9 learners and any Mathematics learners in Grades 10 to 12. The first round is written on 12 March 2020. The entry fee is R20 and payable to the learners Mathematics Teacher. Learners who attain 50% or higher in the first round qualify for the second round which is written on the 14th May. It is well known that mathematics competitions generate a lot of enthusiasm and curiosity for the subject. Every participant in the SAMO papers will be challenged by at least one problem and hence his or her problem-solving skills will improve. Problem solving skills can be further improved by carefully working through the solutions of these rounds. Creative problem-solving skills are very necessary and very marketable in today's technically oriented marketplace. This marketplace is now global and South Africa needs to be very competitive. Hence, we need expert problem solvers. Practice in problem solving will help to train our future leaders in technological development. 7 8 9 10 UPCOMING EVENTS We urge parents and learners to please read the TERM PLANNERS that have been posted to MyHub. We adhere to these dates as best we can, but where changes are made, we will communicate such changes on MyHub and via our learners. 11 THOUGHT TO PONDER: Yours in education, Dion Kotze Head of High School. 12 13 14 15 .

  • Dear Parent It Takes Earth Approximately 365 Days, 5
Date: 28 February 2020 Issue no.: 7 Dear Parent It takes Earth approximately 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 45 seconds, to circle once around the Sun, therefore causing the addition of an intercalary day, called a leap year, every fourth year. This matching up of the seasons to our Gregorian calendar makes us realise that nature does not listen to the laws or conventions of man, but rather that man has made rules to describe what is happening in nature. Tomorrow, 29 February, is such a special day. It is therefore only apt that we use this “bonus day” in our calendar to promote our wonderful school. Please invite family and friends to pop in and visit us at our Open Day. It promises to be an amazing opportunity to showcase our school with our incredible learners and facilities. Needless to say, we are engaging with prospective parents on various levels for this event, but most importantly, our learners will be the true marketing material for Curro Aurora. I therefore ask that you help ensure that they show up dressed neatly for the various activities on offer. We will have learners, teachers and coaches involved in academics, sport activities and cultural activities. The day promises to be jam-packed with excitement, learning and social interaction. ALUMNI If you have been with Aurora, now Curro Aurora, please send an email to [email protected] with your name and surname, the year you completed school, your telephone number and email address – to form part of the Curro Aurora alumni database.

  • FEDA 2016 Programme.Pdf
1 2 The FEDA (Festival of Excellence in Dramatic Arts) was initiated eleven years ago with the specific aim of showcasing outstanding Drama Departments of schools in Gauteng. It began with five schools and now has over fifty schools entering every year. The event is run by Janet Baylis and Phillipa Sandilands. FEDA prides itself on encouraging young theatre practitioners to take risks and create cutting edge work and perform on a professional stage. The standard of work presented is quite extraordinary and each year more young writers, directors, and performers showcase their talent. Many FEDA students have moved on to Drama departments at UCT, AFDA and Wits and some are studying in L.A and New York. FEDA also keeps developing according to the requests of the students, and this year we have continued to grow our Original Works Festival with over twenty seven productions. 3 TABLE OF CONTENTS FRIDAY 6 May ................................................................................................................................ 6 St. Benedict’s College: Many Rivers ......................................................................................................... 6 Parktown: Ubizo – The Calling ................................................................................................................. 6 Kingsmead College: The SPCA .................................................................................................................. 7 Curro Aurora: #Selfie ..............................................................................................................................
