Festival of Excellence in Dramatic Arts FEDA Festival of Excellence in Dramatic Arts VENUE: The Fringe Theatre, Joburg Theatre, Braamfontein DATE: 8 – 27 May TIME: 18h30 @FEDAfestival FEDAfestival www.fedafestival.co.za 1 The FEDA (Festival of Excellence in Dramatic Arts) was initiated twelve years ago with the specific aim of showcasing outstanding Drama Departments of schools in Gauteng. It began with only five schools and now has over sixty schools entering every year. The event is run by Janet Baylis and Phillipa Sandilands. FEDA prides itself on encouraging young theatre practitioners to take risks and create cutting edge work. FEDA affords them the opportunity to perform this work on a professional stage. The standard of work presented is quite extraordinary and each year more young writers, directors, and performers showcase their talent. Many FEDA students have moved on to Drama departments at UCT, AFDA and Wits and some are studying in L.A. and New York. FEDA also keeps developing according to the requests of the students, and this year we have continued to grow our Original Works Festival. “Theatre remains any society’s sharpest way to hold a live debate with itself, if it doesn’t challenge, provoke or illuminate, it is not fulfilling its function.” - Peter Hall 2 Contents Monday 8 May .................................................................................................................................................................................... 5 Original works ..................................................................................................................................... 5 St Andrew’s School for Girls: ................................................................................................................... 5 Saheti School: A Death in the Family ........................................................................................................ 5 Monday 8 May .................................................................................................................................................................................... 6 St David's Marist Inanda: Glengarry Glen Ross ......................................................................................... 6 St. Benedict’s College: Mind of a Sinner ................................................................................................... 6 Tuesday 9 May .................................................................................................................................................................................... 7 Beaulieu College: The Choice ................................................................................................................... 7 Roedean School (SA): “Much Ado” .......................................................................................................... 7 Tuesday 9 May .................................................................................................................................................................................... 8 Curro Aurora: Grandpa Outta Compton ................................................................................................... 8 St Mary's School Waverley: Dean ....................................................................................................... 8 Wednesday 10 May ............................................................................................................................................................................. 9 King David Victory Park: The Boy in the Striped Pajamas ......................................................................... 9 African School For Excellence: Home, Socks & Newspaper ........................................................................ 9 Wednesday 10 May ........................................................................................................................................................................... 10 Saheti School: Mommy, I love you .......................................................................................................... 10 Greenside High School: Unspoken Words ............................................................................................... 10 Thursday 11 May ............................................................................................................................................................................... 11 St Peter’s College: Les Chefs ................................................................................................................... 11 Roedean School (SA): #FeesMustFall ...................................................................................................... 11 Thursday 11 May ............................................................................................................................................................................... 12 King David Victory Park: Until it happens to you ..................................................................................... 12 King David Victory Park: Let's call Him ...? • Dear Parent Curro Aurora – a Recipe for Success It Is Important for Any
Date: 7 February 2020 Issue no.: 4 Dear Parent Curro Aurora – A recipe for Success It is important for any institution to understand, acknowledge and support the processes and contributions of the main role players that ultimately determine the level of success that is achieved. Without these partnerships and ongoing collaboration, no school will be able reach its full potential. Thanks to the passionate learner community, dedicated staff compliment and supportive parent body, Curro Aurora is performing exceptionally well and is well on its way to reaching its full potential. I firmly believe that the elements listed below are essential to ensure that we are successful at helping all students achieve academically and helping them to be caring, contributing, productive, and responsible citizens. Vision: having a common understanding of goals, principles and expectations for everyone in the learning community; Leadership: having a group of individuals dedicated to helping the learning community reach its goals; High Academic Standards: making sure all our learners reach their full potential in a creative and supportive environment; Standards of the Heart: helping all within the learning community become caring, contributing, productive, and responsible citizens; Family School and Community Partnerships: "making room at the table" for all role players; Professional Development: providing consistent, meaningful opportunities for teachers to engage in continuous learning; Equity, diversity, fairness, and inclusiveness must be a part of every aspect of education. It should permeate everything that happens in the school. This includes every program; every classroom environment, curriculum; and every policy and procedure of the school. I look forward to the 2020 academic year, during which we will continue, to not only embrace these elements, but also the Curro values of Child Friendliness, Positive Discipline, Christian Values and Creative Thinking.
