This supplement provides details of Community, Voluntary Controlled, Voluntary Aided, Foundation and Academy Primary Schools in the Hyndburn, Ribble Valley, Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale areas. The policy for admission to Community and Voluntary Controlled Schools is listed below. For Voluntary Aided and Foundation Schools and Academies a summary of the admission policy is provided in this booklet under the entry for each school. Some of these schools may operate different admission arrangements and you are advised to contact individual schools direct for clarification and to obtain full details of their admission policies. These criteria will only be applied if the number of applicants exceeds the published admission number. A full version of the admission policy is available from the school and you should ensure you read the full policy before expressing a preference for the school. Where the school has a nursery class, the number of nursery pupils is in addition to the number on roll. POLICIES ARE ACCURATE AT THE TIME OF PRINTING AND MAY BE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

Admission Criteria for Community & Voluntary Controlled Schools

When a school is oversubscribed on parental preferences, then the following priorities apply in

order:

1. Children who are looked after by a Local Authority at the time when preferences are

expressed and who are still looked after at the time of their admission to school, and those

who have been previously looked after; then

2. Children for whom the Local Authority accepts that there are exceptional medical social or

welfare reasons which are directly relevant to the school concerned; then

3. Children with older brothers and sisters attending the school when the younger child will

start; then

4. Remaining places are allocated according to where a child lives. Those living nearest to the

preferred school by a straight line (radial) measure will have priority.

The distance criterion will be used as the tie breaker if there is oversubscription within any of the admission criteria. The distance measure is a straight line (radial) measure from home to school centre of building to centre of building. If the Local Authority is unable to distinguish between applicants using the published criteria (eg same block of flats) places will be offered via a random draw.

Definitions for Voluntary Aided & Foundation Schools & Academies

for Admission Purposes

The following terms used throughout this booklet are defined as follows, except where individual arrangements spell out a different definition. DISTANCE - The 'straight line' method of measurement only applies for admission purposes. For transport 'walking routes' are used to determine distance. PARENTS / FAMILY MEMBERS - A parent is any person who has parental responsibility or care of the child. Where admission arrangements refer to 'parent's attendance at church' it is sufficient for just one parent to attend. 'Family members' include only parents and siblings.

MEDICAL/SOCIAL/WELFARE - Where schools have a medical/social/welfare admission criterion then this should take into account the circumstances of the child and the family. Please note the Local Authority information in the main admissions booklet. LOOKED AFTER CHILDREN - The School Admissions Code (December 2014) states that within the oversubscription criteria, the highest priority must be given to looked after children and previously looked after children. Previously looked after children are children who were looked after, but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a child arrangement, special guardianship or accommodation order). Further references to previously looked after children in the Code means such children who were adopted (or subject to child arrangement orders or special guardianship orders) immediately following having been looked after. Admission Authorities for faith schools may give priority to all looked after children and previously looked after children whether or not of the faith, but they must give priority to looked after children and previously looked after children of the faith before other children of the faith. Where any element of priority is given in relation to children not of the faith they must give priority to looked after children and previously looked after children not of the faith above other children not of the faith.

If in any category there are more applications than places available, priority will be given on the basis of distance from home to school. In the event of distances being the same for 2 or more applicants where this distance would be last place/s to be allocated, a random lottery will be carried out in a public place. All the names will be entered into a hat and the required number of names will be drawn out.

Does your child qualify for pupil premium?

From September 2014 all pupils in Key Stage 1 in primary schools (Reception year, Year 1 and Year 2) qualified for a free school meal. School meals are not only nutritious but if you take up the meals this will save you up to £380 per year. Not only that but your child's school will also receive over £1000 from the Government for every pupil who is eligible for free school meals by statute (i.e. you are receiving a qualifying benefit below) which can be used to improve pupils' attainment. So even if you do not want to take up the free meals and you are in receipt of a qualifying benefit then please register your eligibility so that school can benefit from this additional funding. In order for the school to receive this additional funding called 'pupil premium' you need to be receiving one of the benefits listed below: • Income Support • Income Related Employment and Support Allowance • Income Based Jobseekers Allowance • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 • Guarantee element of State Pension Credit • Child Tax Credit but not receiving Working Tax Credit and your annual income is less than £16190 • Universal Credit

If you are receiving one of the above benefits then please ring the Area Education Office on 01254 220714 and they can do an immediate online check for you. We only require your name, date of birth and national insurance number to do this for you.

If you are receiving one of the above benefits then you still need to register your child with us even if you have an elder child already attending school and receiving free school meals.

HOW TO APPLY FOR A SCHOOL PLACE

There are four easy steps that you need to follow to apply for a primary school place for Lancashire residents.

Step one:

Choose your preferred three primary schools. Before you apply, research the schools in your area. You could attend school open days or evenings, read the school's most recent Ofsted reports or check school league tables. Think carefully about the preferences you choose.

If you need advice, speak to the Area Pupil Access Team at your local Area Education Office (see contact details below) or look on our website www.lancashire.gov.uk/schools for more details.

Step two:

Read the supporting documents relevant to your area as they include specific details about the admission criteria for each school. This information should be read along with 'Information for Parents 2016/17.

Step three:

Fill in the application form. To apply for a school place you will need to have the following handy: • Your name, address, telephone number and a valid email address • The forename, surname and date of birth of the child • The child's NHS (National Health Service) number, available from their medical card • The child's current nursery (if relevant) • The name of the district council that the child lives in • The child's permanent address (if different from the parent/guardian applying) • The names of your preferred three primary schools • Details of brothers or sisters that are attending one or more of the schools you are applying to • If the child receives care, you need the name of the Local Care Authority that is responsible for this care

Our application form offers a quick, easy and secure way of applying for your child's place at primary school.
