La seca se extiende de diciembre hasta marzo. Abril es un mes de transición. El mes más cálido es abril. El inicio depende de la ubicación latitudinal, ya que comienza primero en el noroeste de la vertiente y de último en el sureste. Lo contrario sucede con el inicio de la época lluviosa. Este período va de mayo hasta octubre, siendo noviembre un mes de transición. Presenta una disminución relativa de la cantidad de lluvia durante los meses de julio y agosto (veranillo o canícula) cuando se intensifica la fuerza del viento Alisios. Los meses más lluviosos son setiembre y octubre debido principalmente a la influencia de los sistemas ciclónicos, los vientos Monzones provenientes del océano Pacífico ecuatorial y las brisas marinas, que son responsables de las lluvias intensas cuando unen su efecto a las barreras orográficas (Muñoz et al 2002). La Zona de Convergencia Intertropical (ZCI) es uno de los factores más influyentes en el régimen de precipitación del Pacífico, sobre todo hacia el sur del país. Puede desplazarse hasta alcanzar parte de nuestro territorio. Las lluvias ocurren predominantemente durante la tarde y primeras horas de la noche. Dentro de esta, se reconocen tres unidades fisiográficas que hacen variar el clima 2 Este apartado se adapta de lo definido en el documento de “Orientaciones metodológicas para la Extensión Agropecuaria”, DNEA, Mayo, 2015. Para ello se retoma información de los POI que han utilizado en las Direcciones Regionales, específicamente las regiones Chorotega, Huetar Norte y Brunca. 7 de la región: la unidad continental constituida por las cordilleras de Guanacaste y Tilarán, con una altitud media de 1000 msnm, la unidad peninsular que comprende las penínsulas de Santa Elena y Nicoya, con una altitud media de 300 msnm y la unidad de la depresión del río Tempisque que es una zona llana con altitud media de 30 msnm. La región en general, presenta promedios de lluvia que oscilan entre los 1500 y 2500 mm anuales. La mayor precipitación se presenta en la zona montañosa de las cordilleras de Guanacaste y Tilarán con valores cercanos a los 2200 mm y temperaturas que varían de los 17ᶱC durante la noche a los 25ᶱC en el día. La depresión del Tempisque es una de la zona más seca con precipitaciones anuales promedio de 1700 mm y temperaturas que oscilan de los 32ᶱC a los 22ᶱC durante el día y la noche, respectivamente. La precipitación anual de la zona peninsular es cercana a los 1900 mm con montos mayores en los cerros de Nicoya y en el extremo sur y sureste de esta península. Las temperaturas máximas durante el día pueden promediar los 33ᶱC, mientras que durante la noche puede ser de 22ᶱC. El clima y el estado del tiempo Recuperado de http://www.imn.go.cr En Guanacaste los efectos del fenómeno del Niño, repercuten fuertemente en la producción agropecuaria de la Región. El Niño, es un evento climático y oceánico que tiene su origen en las aguas del Pacífico y cuando su temperatura calienta en 2 o 3 grados más de lo normal, el efecto pasa a la atmósfera y se convierte en un fenómeno global. Sus efectos varían según zona, dando paso a lluvias intensas en el Caribe y déficit de estas en la costa pacífica. Según índices del Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG), en Costa Rica la sequía tuvo mayor afectación entre el 2014 y 2016, tiempo en que se generaron pérdidas de hasta $30 millones principalmente en el Sector Agropecuario. Según el meteorólogo del Departamento de Climatología e Investigaciones, del Instituto Meteorológico Nacional (IMN), en Guanacaste, los efectos de este fenómeno repercuten desde el año 2017, época en que la precipitación no tuvo el nivel esperado, sumado a esta situación, no hubo una recarga en los mantos acuíferos, 8 tampoco en los ríos, ni se mantuvo el nivel de agua subterránea necesaria, por lo que afectó la disponibilidad de aguas y como consecuencia al sector agrícola, productores y ganaderos.

It meets in ordinary session every three years to perform the functions conferred on it by the Statutes. Since the inaugural meeting at Fontainebleau, France in 1948, the General Assembly has met in Brussels, Belgium (1950); Caracas, Venezuela (1952); Copenhagen, Denmark (1954); Edinburgh, Scotland (1956); Athens, Greece (1958); Warsaw, Poland (1960); Nairobi, Kenya (1963); Lucerne, Switzerland (1966); New Delhi, India (1969); Banff, Canada (1972); Kinshasa, Zaire (1975); Ashkhabad, USSR (1978); and Christchurch, New Zealand (1981). It met in extraordinary session in Geneva, Switzerland, in April 1977. The 16th Session of the General Assembly, held in conjunction with the 16th Technical Meeting of IUCN, took place in Madrid, Spain, from 5-14 November 1984. The thrust of IUCN's effort set by the 15th Session of the General Assembly was directed towards constructing the means for practical integration of conservation with all aspects of development; requiring new mechanisms such as the Conservation for Development Centre, involvement in other disciplines, more purposeful coordination of IUCN's components and a long term perspective for IUCN's priorities.

In his formal plan for the Institution, Joseph Henry outlined a program that included the following statement: "It is proposed to publish a series of reports, giving an account of the new discoveries in science, and of the changes made from year to year in all branches of knowledge." Mozingo Fall 2009 Bees in urban landscapes: An investigation of habitat utilization © 2009 by Victoria Agatha Wojcik ABSTRACT Bees in urban landscapes: An investigation of habitat utilization by Victoria Agatha Wojcik Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Science, Policy, & Management University of California, Berkeley Professor Joe R. McBride, Chair Bees are one of the key groups of anthophilies that make use of the floral resources present within urban landscapes. The ecological patterns of bees in cities are under further investigation in this dissertation work in an effort to build knowledge capacity that can be applied to management and conservation. Seasonal occurrence patterns are common among bees and their floral resources in wildland habitats. To investigate the nature of these phenological interactions in cities, bee visitation to a constructed floral resource base in Berkeley, California was monitored in the first year of garden development. The constructed habitat was used by nearly one-third of the locally known bee species.

INTRODUCCIÓN El área de estudio se localiza entre las coordenadas 265,000-291,000 I 345,000­ 365,000. de las hojas topográficas BeJén y Carillo Norte, escala 1: 50000 (Fig. 1), editada por el Instituto Geográfico Nacional. El área tiene como límites al norte la Finca Monte Galán, al Sur el poblado de Belén, al oeste fa divisoria de la cuenca del Río Sardinal y al este el Río Limoncito y el Río Tempisque.
