Miami Killian Senior High School “Home of the Cougars” Principal’s Message Within our school vision statement is the motto, “Aspire and Act to Achieve.” This motto reflects our belief that in order to achieve we must first be able to dream and imagine worthy goals. Visualizing what we wish to accomplish is only the start. We recognize that it takes a willingness to find the energy, time, and commitment necessary to achieve. As a student at Miami Killian Senior High School, each of you must determine your own personal goals in the areas of academics, athletics, and activities. We look forward to the new school year, 2011-2012, as an exciting opportunity to continue our work to make Miami Killian Senior High School an outstanding secondary school, recognized in the district, state, and nation for superior accomplishments across a full range of academic achievements, athletic competitions, and special interest club participation. CORE VALUES Individual Worth Miami Killian Senior High School’s foundation is built on a shared belief that all students can learn, achieve, and succeed and that each student is a valued individual with unique intellectual, physical, social, and emotional needs. Active Student Engagement At the core of Killian’s instructional practices is a belief that students learn best when they are actively involved in the learning process and have a variety of instructional approaches and co-curricular activities to support that process. Instructional practices will incorporate learning activities and evaluation techniques that take into account differences in learning styles. High Expectations Clear goals and high expectations for student achievement will guide the development of the curriculum and the design of instructional strategies and learning activities. Productive Environment Optimum student achievement takes place best in a safe, clean environment where parents, students, administrators, teachers, and community members share responsibility
