Ct!Tjl!.O)AJ< 1J> ~Jf:/IDI The Niwano Peace Foundation, acting on the rec­ ommendation of the Niwano Peace Prize Screening Commmittee, has decided to award the sixth Niwano Peace Prize to His Eminence Etai Yamada, chief abbot of the Tendai sect of Buddhism. His combination of learning and virtue renders Etai Yamada a paragon for not only Tendai Buddhism but also modern Japan's religious world as a whole. His zeal for peace and his vigorous peace activities provide a model for all people of religion and have won him honor and acclaim the world over. His Buddhist approach to bringing about peace is grounded in his strong belief that true peace is to be realized through individuals' aware­ ness and exercise of their innate value.     PRESS RELEASE February 26, 2021 Venerable Shih Chao-hwei to receive the Niwano Peace Prize The 38th Niwano Peace Prize will be awarded to the Venerable Shih Chao-hwei of Taiwan in recognition of her work in peace building through her safeguarding of all forms of life, her promotion of gender ethics, gender equality and her approach to open-minded dialogue with different religious leaders and social groups. It is the view of the Niwano Peace Prize Committee that, grounded in her Buddhist faith, she provides fearless leadership in the promotion of a sustainable and viable peace, and as such we are honored to recognize her work. The presentation ceremony will take place in Tokyo, Japan, on Wednesday, June 2nd. In addition to an award certificate, Venerable Shih Chao-hwei will receive a medal and twenty million yen. To avoid undue emphasis on any particular religion or region, every year the Peace Foundation solicits nominations from people of recognized intellectual and religious stature around the world. In the nomination process, some 600 people and organizations, representing 125 countries and many religions, are asked to propose candidates. Nominations are rigorously screened by the Niwano Peace Prize Committee, which was set up in May of 2003 on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the Niwano Peace Prize. The Committee presently consists of seven religious leaders from various parts of the world, all of whom are involved in movements for peace and inter-religious cooperation. She founded “Women Without Walls Initiative” in March 2010, born out of the desperation to put an end to the violent and senseless killings of women and children in Plateau state Nigeria. Since inception, the organization has become a strong coalition of women groups across religious and ethnic divides. From this platform, women have been placed at an advantageous position of raising their voices in the calls for peace in the troubled regions of Nigeria.     PRESS RELEASE February 17, 2020 Venerable Pomnyun to receive the Niwano Peace Prize The 37th Niwano Peace Prize shall be given to Zen Master, the Venerable Pomnyun of a South Korean Buddhist organization, Jungto Society in recognition of his extraordinary humanitarian work, environmental and social activism, and his inspiring effort to build relationships of trust and good will between those of different faiths and cultures as a central component of his work for peace. Venerable Pomnyun’s work serves as a poignant illustration of the Buddhist ideals that inspire it. The presentation ceremony will take place in Tokyo, Japan, on Wednesday, June 3rd, at 10:30 a.m. In addition to an award certificate, Venerable Pomnyun will receive a medal and twenty million yen. To avoid undue emphasis on any particular religion or region, every year the Peace Foundation solicits nominations from people of recognized intellectual and religious stature around the world. In the nomination process, some 600 people and organizations, representing 125 countries and many religions, are asked to propose candidates. Nominations are rigorously screened by the Niwano Peace Prize Committee, which was set up in May of 2003 on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the Niwano Peace Prize. The Committee presently consists of seven religious leaders from various parts of the world, all of whom are involved in movements for peace and inter-religious cooperation. Sebelah rumah kami bangunan tinggi, jadi saya bawa anak-anak ke rumah neneknya yang saya pikir lebih aman. Di sana, jam setengah satu ada gempa lagi. Anak-anak saya bawa ke luar rumah, tapi Sibunga malah mencari neneknya yang sedang sholat... anggal 6 Maret 2007 akan selalu dikenang oleh masyarakat di T Sumatera Barat yang sering disebut Minangkabau ini. Seperti yang dikisahkan Aidil Fitri di atas, pukul 11.49 WIB, terjadi gempa tektonik berskala 5,8 skala Richter. Gempa ini berpusat di Kecamatan Batipuh, Kabupaten Tanah Datar, Sumatera Barat. Saat itu warga yang sedang melakukan aktivitas rutin pada hari Selasa itu, langsung berhamburan keluar dari bangunan. Kejutan ini ternyata tak hanya berlangsung sekali, kurang lebih satu jam kemudian, sekali lagi gempa berkekuatan 6,3 skala Richter terjadi. Kali ini pusatnya di Kecamatan Pariangan, Kabupaten Tanah Datar. Selasa itu, adalah hari terakhir Aidil bersama-sama dengan anak keempatnya, Sibunga. Segera setelah gempa reda, Aidil menuju puing rumah ibunya yang rubuh pada gempa kedua. Setengah jam mencari, ia menemukan gadis cilik berusia dua setengah tahun itu dalam kondisi cedera tertimpa bangunan dan langsung melarikannya ke Rumah Sakit Yarsi, Bukit Tinggi. Sang nenek yang dicari Sibunga pada detik-detik terakhirnya, lolos dari maut, namun hatinya seolah ikut terbawa Anand Yahya bersama kepergian cucu kesayangannya.
