2015 ended on a strong note, wrapping up a year of exciting developments around the region and headline-making deals and disputes.

On pages 4-5, you will see an overview of our regional work, with cutting-edge deals like the S$1.53 billion sale of Olam shares to Mitsubishi Corporation, CITIC’s S$1.1 billion acquisition of Biosensors International Group and Thai Precious Projects’ S$500 million multicurrency medium term note programme.

In Singapore alone our prominent matters on pages 6-7 span various sectors, from the S$5 billion merger of JTC Corporation and Temasek Holdings’ four subsidiaries to CMA CGM’s S$3.4 billion acquisition of NOL, the US$2 billion acquisition of Cushman & Wakefield to Dmitry Rybolovlev’s US$1 billion claim of masterpiece art fraud, and defending the independent state of Papua New Guinea in a US$1.5 billion expropriation claim, a first for Singaporean law firm as counsel in an investor-state ICSID arbitration.

Recognition of our outstanding track record came from The Asian Lawyer’s first-ever Emerging Markets Law Firm of the Year (Independent) Award. We maintained our top tier positions in Chambers Global, Chambers Asia-Pacific and IFLR1000 and achieved recognition for various awards. Our continuing efforts to improve our firm as an equal opportunity employer also clinched us the Euromoney Legal Media Group’s Asia Women in Business Law Awards for a record fourth time. This year, the Firm beat six other finalists among national and international firms to clinch the coveted “Best Firm in Singapore” award.

All of these achievements were only possible due to our clients’ continuing support over the years. We are truly grateful for the trust you have invested in us.

Sincerely,

Alvin Yeo, Senior Counsel Senior Partner

WONGPARTNERSHIP LLP | 15 01 INTRODUCTION

Against the economic conditions in 2014 and 2015, which saw modest cyclical economic improvements, WongPartnership has done very well. We have acted in several mega deals across industries, including innovative transactions that involved the establishment of new legal structures as well as the development of strategies and techniques to overcome regulatory hurdles. In terms of market impact, some deals served as precedents for future transactions. In the new international arbitration matters that arose in the past year, it was notable that half of the matters concerned disputes which have no elements relating to Singapore other than the fact that Singapore is the seat. These are disputes governed by a law other than Singapore, concerned entities other than Singapore companies and the subject matter of the underlying dispute did not involve Singapore in any aspect.
