2 Port of Rotterdam Authority (Havenbedrijf Rotterdam N.V.)

 A private company under Dutch law with private and public responsibilities  Shareholders are Municipality of Rotterdam (70%) and the State of the (30%)  Port of Rotterdam Authority can operate as a public partner and private partner in PPP  Largest PPP in the Netherlands; the port extension of the port of Rotterdam called “” Missions Havenbedrijf Rotterdam N.V.

1. To develop, install, manage and exploit the Rotterdam port and industrial zone (private responsibilities). 2. Taking care for effective, safe and efficient management of shipping traffic and to provide conditions of nautical and maritime order and safety, as well as to operate as competent Port Authority for the Rotterdam port area public responsibilities).

Lessons learned

 At own risk and responsibility; Port of Rotterdam Authority is responsible for finding the customers, construction and conditions  Invest time in making clear arrangement between private and public partners  Bestow much care on public relations, for example; information center at MV2, Futureland  Good experience with interlocking EIS (environmental impact statement) with the tender procedure.
