Highlights

• On the 9 December, ADRA in collaboration with the Ministry of Health launched a polio and measles vaccination campaign in 12 districts in Al Jawf Governorate. The campaign targeted 233,113 children below the age of 15 years.

• On 31 December, WFP through its partner Islamic Relief, distributed food to 19,720 IDP households in Amran Governorate.

• Yemen Women Union (YWU) with support from UNFPA and Intersos conducted gender-based violence (GBV) awareness in Sa’adah. 110 participants (80 female and 30 male) attended the training, which ended on the 14 December.

Health

Al Jawf

• On the 9 December, ADRA in collaboration with the Ministry of Health launched a polio and measles vaccination campaign in 12 districts in Al Jawf (Khabb wa ash Sha'af, Al Humaydat, Al Matammah, Az Zahir, Al Hazm, Al Maton, Al Maslub, Al Ghayl, Al Khalq, Bart Al Anan, Rajuzah and Kharab Al Marashi). The campaign which targeted 233,113 children below the age of 15, achieved 76,461 (91%) and 205,810 (88%) coverage against polio and measles respectively.

• 4,200 IDPs and vulnerable members of the host community received health and nutrition assistance in the districts of Al Hazm, Al Ghayl, Al Maton, and Al Maslub. Amran

• Yemen Family Care Association (YFCA) provided health services using two mobile clinics to 5,920 patients in the districts of Amran (821), Thula (1662), Al Qaflah (1212), Al Asha (849), Al Madan (1372). The Emergency Response Fund funded the YFCA health project.

Rajuzah, Almrashy, Al Humaydat. Additional 44 health workers from the four districts were trained on the treatment of malnutrition at outpatient therapeutic program (OTPs) to be activated in health units in the remote areas of Al Jawf.

Sa’ada

• UNICEF provided nutrition, essential medical supplies and hygiene kits for children to three health facilities (Al Malheet Hospital, Al Dhaher and Thawaib health facilities) serving a population of 12,942 in and 13,564 in Al Dhaher. These supplies are expected to last for six months. • On 30 November, Save the Children International, conducted a five-day workshop on community-based management of acute malnutrition for 29 workers (7 female and 22 male) from 11 health facilities in the districts of As Safra, Saqayn, Sahar, Haydan, Razih and Sa’adah town.

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Al Jawf

• Humanitarian Aid and Development Organization (HAD) conducted an assessment for WASH needs in eight health facilities in the districts of Bart Al Anan, Kharab Al Marashi, Rajuzah, Al Humaydat. Six needed rehabilitation of latrines, water networks and sewage systems.

Sa’ada

• UNICEF completed rehabilitation of WASH facilities including water networks in 15 health facilities in the districts of Munabeh, Majz, Ghamr, and Baqim. • Sa’ada Yemen Women Union distributed 2,300 dignity kits to women affected by conflict in Dammaj, as part of a UNFPA programme. • Oxfam completed the construction of two water projects in Al Malaheet (Al Dhaher District) benefiting 2,700 people, and Al Shalil () benefiting 2,244 returnees previously displaced within Sa’ada. Both projects include a concrete tank (100 m³, 40 m3 respectively), water distribution pipes, pump and generator. • Oxfam completed construction of five latrines in two schools in Majz and As Safra districts. The latrines will improve sanitation for 600 students in the two schools.

Food Security and Agriculture

Al Jawf

• ADRA distributed food to 1,000 displaced families in the districts of Al Hazm, Al Ghayl, and Al Khalq. ADRA also provided in-kind grants and livelihood assistance to 50 displaced families in the same districts.

Amran

• Islamic Relief through the UNHCR-supported protection network identified 197 food insecure families (returnees) in the districts of Al Qafla, Al Asha’a and Huth. These families were displaced during the 2014 conflicts and received food assistance.

Protection

Al Jawf

• Islamic Help UK implemented a 16-day campaign against gender based violence (GBV) in Al Maton and Al Hazm districts. The campaign, which ended on the 10 December, targeted schoolchildren and local communities covering various protection and human rights issues.

Sa’ada

• With support from UNFPA and Intersos, Yemen Women Union (YWU) conducted GBV awareness in Sa’adah City. 110 people (80 female and 30 male) attended the training, which ended on 14 December. • On 15 December, UNHCR conducted a workshop on protection as part of capacity building for humanitarian agencies in Sa’adah; for 29 persons from different agencies, INGOs, LNGOs, governmental departments, and the Executive Council. • As part of community dialogue on the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference and the new constitution, As Salam and Development Organization conducted five awareness sessions in Sa’adah; attended by 140 people (60 male and 80 female). The discussion focused on the rights of children and marginalized communities’ access to education and water. UNICEF supports the project. • 119 (17 males and 102 females) people approached the IDP Community Center during the month of December. 60 received social counseling, 51 received psychological counseling and eight received legal counseling assistance. 77 vulnerable people were also assisted by the Center, while 38 received kitchen items and food, two received sewing machines, 20 received winter clothes, 12 received cash assistance to buy medicine while five (health cases referred to Sana'a) received cash assistance as transportation.

Child Protection

• In Al Jawf, UNICEF in collaboration with Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor conducted mine risk education (MRE) for IDPs and host communities in five affected districts (Al-Hazm, Al-Khalq, Al-Maslub, Al-Maton, Al- Matammah and Al-Zahir. 6,826 children (2,942 girls, 3,887 boys) and 8,659 community members (3,355 women, 5,304 men) participated in the MRE awareness sessions. • In Sa’adah, UNICEF conducted MRE in 10 districts (Haydan, Saqayn, Razih, Al Dhaher,Shedah, Alhashwa, Kitaf, As Safra, Sahar and Sa’adah). The exercise reached 16,790 children (5,751 girls, 11,039 boys) and 11,624 community members (6,144 women, 5480 men). 192 males and 1,755 children (355 girls, 1,400 boys) from the areas of return in Al-Dhaher and Haydan districts also took part.

Emergency Shelter/Non-Food Items/ Camp Coordination, Camp Management

• With funding from the Emergency Response Fund (ERF), Yemen Family Care Association distributed non-food items to 1,000 IDP families (3,493 female, 3,494 male) in Amran (1,909), Thula (1,266), Jabal Iyal Yazid (1,526), Raydah (903), and Iyal Surayh (1,382) districts of Amran. • ADRA distributed food and NFIs to 130 households in Al Hazm and Al Ghayl districts in Al Jawf. • In collaboration with Sa’ada Reconstruction Fund, UNHCR has completed the rehabilitation of 30 houses damaged during war in Al Dhaher District. These are part of 40 houses to be rehabilitated with funding from UNHCR for IDPs currently in Al Mazraq IDP camp in Haradh. IDPs in Amran receive non-food items

Education

Al Jawf and Sa’ada

• On 6 December, UNICEF launched a six-day training for school development teams targeting 31 child-friendly schools in five districts(Bart Al Anan, Al Marashi, Rajuzah, Khab wa al Al Sha’af and Az Zahir) in Al Jawf. 200 teachers and education officers attended the training facilitated by officials from the Ministry of Education. • On 11 December, UNICEF conducted a six-day training for school development teams targeting 52 child friendly schools in three districts (Majz, Razih, and Sahar) in Sa’ada Governorate. 334 teachers and education officials attended.

Early Recovery and Livelihood • Supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), ACTED distributed 9,635 chickens to 964 IDP families in three districts (Al Hazm (364 HHs), Al Matoon (450 HHs) and Al Khalq (150 HHs)) in Al Jawf. 900 small-scale farmers received wheat and fertilizers in Al Hazm, Al Maslub and Al Khalq and Al Matoon districts. • On 21 December, UNDP launched a 10-day training workshop in Sa’adah on conflict resolution and conflict sensitive development. Community members, NGOs and local authority from the districts of Sa’ada and Al Dhaher attended the training. 75 participants (12 female, 63 male) participated.

Coordination: Activities, challenges and solutions • On 8-9 December, an inter-agency assessment covering Al-Malheet, Al Marawi, Al Mashaf, Bani Habib, Al Twal in Al Dhaher District and Talan and Thwaib in Haydan District was completed. The aim was to assess the current situation, examine the impact of potential return and identify gaps as part of the durable solutions initiative lead by the HCT to facilitate voluntary return of IDPs in Al Mazraq camps.
