The University of Houston-Victoria is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and participates as a member of the Asso- ciation of Independent Institutions Conference (A.I.I.). The NAIA’s first general session of the ‘organizing convention’ was under the auspices of the National Association of Intercollegiate Basketball (NAIB) and was held in the Phillips Hotel in Kansas City, Mo., on Sunday, March 10, 1940. In 1952, as a result of the expressed desires of the member institutions, appropriate steps were taken by which the NAIB was transformed into the NAIA, and the first all-encompassing set of rules and standards were adopted. With the Association's new name came the addition of national champion- ships in golf, tennis and outdoor track and field. Football, cross country, baseball and swimming and diving were added to the championships calen- dar in 1956. Wrestling (1958), soccer (1959), bowling (1962-78), gymnastics (1964-84), indoor track and field (1966) and men's volleyball (1969-80) were later additions. Today, the NAIA strengthens its commitment to student-athletes and strives to enrich their college experience by supporting academic achievement and character development, The association provides exclusive opportunities for over 45,000 young men and women to achieve academically while competing for the love of the game. 2—2011 JAGUARS SOFTBALL

First baseman Courtney Pettit and third baseman Allison Hinton should nail down the corners for the Jaguars. The biggest holes to fill will be at second and short. Re- turnee Araceli Galindo is expected to move into the second base position, while freshman Ashley Wine- gart from Corpus Christi Carroll looks to step in at short. Adding depth to the team in the middle will be Blinn transfer Kellie King, while Fort Bend Elkins freshman Tara Williams is expected to backup Pettit. Pettit led the Jaguars with a .390 batting average and 18 doubles, while Hinton, who was named a 2010 Louisville Slugger/NFCA NAIA All-American, led the team with 113 total bases, 64 hits, 45 RBI and 10 home runs.

Catcher UHV will be relying on youth behind the plate this season with two freshman prospects battling for playing time to replace veteran Brittany Faas. Kristina Droz, a three-year starter at Fort Bend Elkins, and former Memorial catcher Marley Moe- hrig will be handling the Jaguars pitching staff this season. But they should also get plenty of tips from Faas, who will serve as a voluntary assistant with the team.

Outfield The Jaguars should have plenty of experienced depth in the outfield with two starters back, along with two transfers. Bre’Neka O’Bryant and Kori Kocian return from last year’s squad, as does Justine Prewitt, who was sidelined most of the season. COACHING STAFF

HEAD COACH KERI LAMBETH

2011 marks Keri’s fourth season as Jaguars’ head coach. The 2010 season saw Lambeth pick up her 100th coaching victory as the Jaguars coach. In 2009, she led the team to the NAIA national champion- ships in Decatur, Ala., after winning the Association of Inde- pendent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference championship. The Jaguars finished the 2010 season ranked 21st in the national as Lambeth saw her overall record improve to 102-47. A native of El Campo, Texas, she played for two seasons (1998-2000) at Texarkana College before transferring to the University of Houston. She made the Lady Cougars as a walk- on and played catcher for two seasons. During that time, she was actively involved in coaching clinics and other softball related activities. In 2002, she graduated from UH with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Sports Administration. While at UH, Keri was a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa honor society. Upon graduation, she became an assistant softball coach at George Washington University (NCAA– D1) where she was the recruiting coordinator as well as the strength and condi- tioning coach for the Colonials during their inaugural softball season. Beginning in 2004, she became the athletics director and head softball coach at Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Temple, Texas, for two years before being named the head softball coach at Edna High School. 2010 SEASON REVIEW

2010 SEASON REVIEW

UHV Goes 2-2 in A.I.I. Tournament: The Jag- uars opened play in the 2010 Association of Independent Institutions Conference tourna- ment with two victories, but fell short in ad- vancing to the NAIA National Championships with back-to-back losses. UHV downed LSU- Alexandria 4-2 in the A.I.I. opener and behind a three-run home run from Courtney Pettit, defeated Simon Fraser 3-1. An unearned run broke up a classic pitchers’ dual in the next game as Cal State-San Marcos’ Brenna Sandberg blanked the Jags 1-0 on a no-hitter. The Jaguars’ Tasha Rotramel allowed just three hits in the contest and allowed an un- earned run in the sixth. The Jaguars came from behind to take a 4-3 lead on Simon Fra- ser in an elimination game, but Kelsey Haberl’s two-run home run in the fifth prove to be the deciding factor in the 5-4 contest that elimi- nated the Jags.

Hinton Receives All-American Honor: Third baseman Allison Hinton was selected to the 2010 Louisville Slugger/NFCA NAIA All- American second team. Hinton compiled a .368 batting average and led the team with 10 home runs, four triples and 45 RBI in 52 games. She also scored 40 runs, banged out 11 doubles and had a .649 slugging percent- age.
