Deng, N.H. Xia & H. Peng (Acanthaceae), is described from the Hengduan Received 30 September 2016 Mountains, China. Wuacanthus is based on Wuacanthus microdontus (W.W.Sm.) Y.F. Deng, N.H. Xia & H. Received in revised form Peng, originally published in Justicia and then moved to Mananthes. The new genus is characterized by its 25 November 2016 shrub habit, strongly 2-lipped corolla, the 2-lobed upper lip, 3-lobed lower lip, 2 stamens, bithecous Accepted 25 November 2016 anthers, parallel thecae with two spurs at the base, 2 ovules in each locule, and the 4-seeded capsule. Available online xxx Phylogenetic analyses show that the new genus belongs to the Pseuderanthemum lineage in tribe Justi- cieae. -

Dillman, Ecologist USDA Forest Service, Tongass National Forest [email protected] Vascular Plants of Negelle-Borona, Ethiopia, USFS IP Introduction This report provides supplemental information to the Inventory and Assessment of Biodiversity report prepared for the US Agency for International Development (USAID) following the 2011 mission to Negelle- Borona region in southern Ethiopia (Dillman 2012). As part of the USAID supported Pastoralist Livelihood Initiative (PLI), this work focused on the biodiversity of the kallos (pastoral reserves). This report documents the vascular plant species collected and identified from in and around two kallos near Negelle (Oda Yabi and Kare Gutu). This information can be utilized to develop a comprehensive plant species list for the kallos which will be helpful in future vegetation monitoring and biodiversity estimates in other locations of the PLI project. This list also identifies plants that are endemic to Ethiopia and East Africa growing in the kallos as well as plants that are non-native and could be considered invasive in the rangelands. Methods Field work was conducted between November 28 and December 9, 2011 (the end of the short rainy season). The rangeland habitats visited are dominated by Acacia and Commifera trees, shrubby Acacia or dwarf shrub grasslands. -

Bremer, P. Cantino, J. Chau, J. L. Clark, B. Drew, P. Garnock- Jones, S. Grose (Heydler), R. Harley, H.-D. Ihlenfeldt, B. Li, L. Lohmann, S. Mathews, L. McDade, K. Müller, E. Norman, N. O’Leary, B. Oxelman, J. Reveal, R. Scotland, J. Smith, D. Tank, E. Tripp, S. Wagstaff, E. Wallander, A. Weber, A. Wolfe, A. Wortley, N. Young, M. Zjhra, and many others [estimated 25 families, 1041 genera, and ca. 21,878 species in Lamiales] The goal of this project is to produce a working infraordinal classification of the Lamiales to genus with information on distribution and species richness. All recognized taxa will be clades; adherence to Linnaean ranks is optional. Synonymy is very incomplete (comprehensive synonymy is not a goal of the project, but could be incorporated). Although I anticipate producing a publishable version of this classification at a future date, my near- term goal is to produce a web-accessible version, which will be available to the public and which will be updated regularly through input from systematists familiar with taxa within the Lamiales. Page 169 A CHECK LIST OF PLANTS RECORDED IN TSAVO NATIONAL PARK, EAST By P. J. GREENWAY INTRODUCTION A preliminary list of the vascular plants of the Tsavo National Park, Kenya, was prepared by Mr. J. B. Gillett and Dr. D. Wood of the East African Herbarium during 1966. This I found most useful during a two month vegetation survey of Tsavo, East, which I was asked to undertake by the Director of Kenya National Parks, Mr. P. M. Olindo, during "the short rains", December-January 1966-1967. Mr. Gillett's list covered both the East and West Tsavo National Parks which are considered by the Trustees of the Kenya National Parks as quite separate entities, each with its own Warden in Charge, their separate staffs and organisations. As a result of my two months' field work I decided to prepare a Check List of the plants of the Tsavo National Park, East, based on the botanical material collected during the survey and a thorough search through the East African Herbarium for specimens which had been collected previously in Tsavo East or the immediate adjacent areas. This search was started in May, carried out intermittently on account of other work, and was completed in September 1967. BOTANICAL COLLECTORS The first traveller to have collected in the area of what is now the Tsavo National Park, East, was J. M. Hildebrandt who in January 1877 began his journey from Mombasa towards Mount Kenya. He explored Ndara and the Ndei hills in the Taita district, and reached Kitui in the Ukamba district, where he spent three months, returning to Mombasa and Zanzibar in August. -

Cape heaths, garden history, hybrids, nomenclature ABSTRACT This paper discusses the horticultural history of southern African Erica spp. in Europe, and especially in Britain, dur ing the late eighteenth and the early decades of the nineteenth century . We note evidence for the deliberate hybridization of the so-called Cape heaths by European horticulturists, in particular by the English nursery man William Rollisson and by the Very Rev. William Herbert. We discuss some of the nomenclatural consequences of the naming by miscellaneous botanists and nurserymen of the hundreds of new Erica species and hybrids, emphasizing the proliferation of eponyms. An appendix tabulates eponyms and their numerous orthographic variants published before 1835 within Erica, and provides the correct orthography for these epithets.
