Every year Tor Bay plays host to over 50 Maritime Events ranging from the Torbay long distance swim, several dinghy and keelboat championships, rowing/gig regattas, trawler races, angling festivals, cruise ship visits, to major powerboating weekends . Many clubs and organisations choose Tor Bay for their events as it is a prime sheltered location . The Bay is a favourite with tourists and visitors too, as the Maritime Events can be seen from many sites along the Bay’s 22 miles of coastline. The controlled areas charted around the coast of Tor Bay are mainly for the use of swimmers, and are in use between May and September. Within these areas, and in the enclosed harbours, vessels should proceed with caution and must not exceed 5 knots. Look out for yellow buoys denoting the 5k speed limit at intervals along the entire coast of Tor Bay. Water ski approach lanes have been established at Elberry Cove and Livermead Sands.
