iii ABSTRACT
Tliic piece is written in three sections. The first
section, entitled Prryor, is based on tie text of Psalm 69:
1-3. The main promise of this section is, "Save me, 0 Goal"
The Baritone solo carries .tnc major responsibility of pro
claiming the text with orchestral and choral backgrounds.
Included in the choral parts are whispered and spoken
sections.
The middle section, Hymns of Praise, is formulated as an answer of praise to the sorrowful plea set forth in the opening section. Involved are three hymn tui.es: Tilers, fin fosto burp, and St. Anne0 They are set in interesting and different ways. The choral parts are almost at times aleatory.
The final section entitled Pica for Deliverance, is a summing up of the previous sections. The text is taken from Psalm 63: 1, 13-18. It is a final plea for the Lord to destroy the enemies and turn them to shame. The message of the whole work comes to a final statement of purpose for the plea, Psalm 83:18, "That men may know that Thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the Lost High over all the earth;" Great is Jehovah, the Lord!
