Box 407, Bonaire, Dutch Caribbean, Phone 786-6518, 786-6125, www.bonairereporter.com email: [email protected] Since 1994 The Papiamento name of the Yellow Poui (Tabebuia billbergii) tree "Kibrahacha" has its origin in the very hard wood of this tree. The wood is so hard that the ax (hacha) will break (kibra) on it. After months without rain, the first showers of the short rainy season fall, this tree envelops itself within three days in a cloud of bright yellow flowers. The yellow blooms are all the more conspicuous because most of the other plants are still leafless. The bloom does not last long; after three days the flowers drop off and only then the tree starts growing leaves. More specifically, the Passenger Network activity (Air France and KLM) saw its traffic increase by 2.4%, with a 5.4% increase in connections to North America, while the Transavia low -cost activity increased by 7.6%. For its part, Franco-Netherlands' cargo traffic fell by 3.8% last month on the basis of a 1.4% increase in capacity, resulting in a load factor that fell by 3.1 points to 57%. My comment: Since the beginning of the year, the Air France -KLM group has carried 80 million passengers, up 3.4% compared to the same period in 2018. I note that over these nine months, the load factor of the Franco -Dutch group was 6 points higher than that of the L ufthansa group (88.7% versus 82.8%); a performance to be credited to the combined Air France -KLM teams.

13 April 2017 KLM transports giant pandas Xing Ya and Wen Wu to the Netherlands After a moving farewell ceremony in China, KLM transported the two giant pandas Xing Ya and Wen Wu from Chengdu in China to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. This is the fourth time KLM has transported pandas worldwide, but the first time it has flown pandas from China to the Netherlands. With close to 70 weekly flights between Amsterdam and China operated by KLM and our Chinese partners, we effectively form a bridge between Europe and China. Following its touchdown and shower of affection, the KLM Boeing-747 combi (KL0892) – boasting the names of both pandas – taxied to the gate, escorted by the panda truck and KLM Panda Bus. The pandas were then transferred to the KLM Animal Hotel where they were shown to specially invited guests and members of the press on completion of the formalities. “KLM Cargo is honoured to have been able to transport the giant pandas from Chengdu to their new home at Ouwehands Zoo. It is a special moment for the Netherlands to welcome the pandas after so many years. • KLM and Philips Establish Special Cargo Air Bridge Between Amsterdam and China
SCHIPHOL, 9 APRIL 2020 KLM and Philips establish special cargo air bridge between Amsterdam and China The loss of around 90% of flights between Europe and Asia has resulted in a major shortage of cargo capacity. Meanwhile, the corona crisis has prompted an enormous need for the rapid transportation of medical equipment and other supplies between the United States, Europe and China. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has now joined hands with Royal Philips and the Dutch government to create a special cargo air bridge between the Netherlands and China. In addition to these parties, many others are seeking additional capacity. The air bridge to Asia will be launched on 13 April. To maintain this vital cargo air bridge for the coming six to eight weeks, KLM will specially redeploy Boeing 747 Combi equipment for the service between the Netherlands and China. This air bridge will ensure continuous availability of special cargo capacity, with two weekly flights to Beijing and three weekly flights to Shanghai. This will ensure around 250 tonnes of extra cargo capacity each way per week. The flights will supplement the current “skeleton schedule” that took effect on 29 March, with two weekly flights to Beijing and two weekly flights to Shanghai, operated with Boeing 787s and 777s. The KLM/Martinair Full Freighters will continue to be deployed on North Atlantic routes, which Philips will use as an air bridge between Amsterdam and distribution points in the United States. The Full Freighters will also continue to operate on South Atlantic routes and to destinations in Africa. In view of the 90% decline in flights and anticipated future capacity, KLM previously decided in early March that it would phase out its remaining Boeing 747s in April 2020, instead of in the summer of 2021.
