Help your club raise funds and earn rewards... and help homeless young people achieve greatness!!! Great news! The AFL has come up with an exciting new way for your Club to raise money, earn great rewards and create even more excitement around the footy finals…all while helping support homeless young people through their chosen charity, Ladder. For the past seven years, the ‘AFL Premiership Cup Pin & Win Promotion’ has been helping to fund Ladder’s work by selling prestigious Premiership Cup lapel pins in the lead up to the Finals season. This year, we’re giving you the chance to pioneer this exciting initiative at the local Club level by selling pins through your community – and earning great rewards along the way! By participating in this year’s Pin & Win promotion your Club can: • Earn $1.50 for every pin you sell (you buy them for $3.50 and sell for $5) • Earn great rewards like sporting goods or a visit from an AFL player • Make Finals season more exciting with this fantas- tic fund raiser • Help Ladder help homeless young people The more pins you sell the more money you earn for your Club and the more likely you are to qualify for Gold, Silver or Bronze reward packages that recognise the ‘top sellers’. And, we’ll take both overall and pro-rata sales into account so it’s a totally fair draw; so even small clubs can earn big rewards! But you’ll have to hurry if you want to be involved! We can only accommodate 250 Clubs in this pilot program and it’s ‘first in, first served’. So, how do you participate? Just go to go to www.ladder.org.au and click on ‘Register my Club’. You’ll be asked to provide a few contact de- tails and the initial number of pins you think your Club could sell (you can purchase more later if you wish). Expressions of interest close on Friday 28 June, so there’s no time to lose. We’ll let you know by Wednesday 3 July whether your application has been successful and, if so, when you can expect your pins to launch the campaign So come on – give your Club a kick start with fundrais- ing and help Ladder kick a goal for youth homelessness. Don’t delay - register TODAY! Kind regards, Mark Bolton Chief Executive Officer Ladder

GO ROC Doveton Doves Seniors – After 3 straight losses it was good to get back on the winners list. The boys played well in patches against an improved Hampton Park. We still have a few things to work on and hopefully with the return of some injured & suspended players we will continue to work our way back to our early season form. This week against Tooradin is another good test and a chance to take one step closer to a finals berth. Browny - Good to have another win, after a slow start to our game the boys began to apply the pressure at every stoppage and contest to take control of the game. With 10 different goal kickers I thought the boys shared the ball around and didn’t rely on just a few to kick our score. Baz & Taylor Rainey worked really well up forward kicking 5 & 4 goals respectively with big Franky chipping in with 4 and some really strong forward marking. Blake Mitchell played his best game for the year in the middle and looks like he’s come out of his shell and has started to feel like part of the team. Harves – good efforts all day formulated a terrific win for the boys who are improving week by week. Great games by Matt Jamo, Fred Faulkner, Luke Damato and Daniel O’Connell Webb. The 18’s started the day with the first goal but unfortu- nately that was the only highlight of the game…great games to Hamish Browning, Ryan Lowe, Jaxson Mahy, Stephen Veal and Joshua Mcmath. The Reserves ran out determined to play hard but on the day we were no match for Doveton – great efforts to James Alexander, Jason Robertson, Eddie Mullins, Jordan Kein, Matthew Howard and Christopher Kennedy. After a slow 1st half our Seniors ran out in the 2nd half and played some really great football and even though the results didn’t reflect the effort of our boys – we can see the improvement! Doveton certainly had to earn every goal and to our boys credit they fought hard right up until the final siren! Awesome games to Danny Cortese, Matthew Adair, Aaron Holden, Lionel Beniot, Adam Koe and Asheligh Allen. Keep at it boys and WE will get the win on the board!!! Juniors News Metro Grand Finals came to an end last Saturday in front of a huge crowd at Shepley Oval. Yarra too strong for reigning In ideal conditions a determined Yarra Junior Football champs... League put on a powerhouse display of traditional hard- ness at the footy and terrific skill to defeat the South East Juniors by an impressive 85 points. South East Juniors began slowly with Yarra dominating all over the ground particularly when the ball went into the forward 50, capitalising on almost every occasion, reminiscent of the round two clash a few weeks earlier. It wasn’t until the third quarter when SEJ scored their first goal through Ashley Edwards. AT half time Coach Keith Edwards encouraged the girls to forget about the score- board and start focusing on winning every little contest across the ground. The girls responded restricting Yarra to only the two goals for the term while SEJ finally hit the scoreboard 7 minutes into the third term through some great work by Ashley Edwards. Yarra’s consistent pressure right across the ground was a reflection of their approach to these championships and well deserve their Grand Final win. www.caseycardiniafnl.com.au 35 WorkSafe country football legend

Mick Cleeland, Waaia FC

It’s every footballer’s dream. And for Mick Cleeland, it came true. With his team, Waaia, five points down in the 1990 Picola League Grand Final, Mick was awarded a free kick as the final siren went. From outside 50, he sent a soaring torpedo punt through the big sticks – and became an instant club legend. WorkSafe is proud to sponsor country football. For the players, the families, friends, even the umpires! That’s why WorkSafe wants to remind everyone in country Victoria how important it is to have a safe workplace. That way all of us can turn up to the footy on the weekend to see our country football legends.
