Coldwaltham, St. James' C.E. Primary School COLDWALTHAM, ST. JAMES’ C.E. PRIMARY SCHOOL with Chuckleberries Pre School Tel: 01798 872196 Fax: 01798 875532 Email: [email protected] www.st-james-coldwaltham.w-sussex.sch.uk Headteacher: Mr Jon Gilbert Learn, Discover, Achieve Friday Flyer – 3rd May 2019 Staff Changes We welcome Lizzie Martin to the staff team. Mrs Martin has joined us from Mayfield School in East Sussex to take up her role as senior teacher and teacher of Yew Class. In my absence, Mrs Martin is responsible for the leadership of the school and any concerns or issues should be relayed to her. Mrs Martin is also the Deputy Safeguard Lead. Mrs Kirby, the school’s Business Manager has agreed to continue in her role as Deputy Safeguard Lead; in my absence, please report any safeguarding issues that you may have to either of these two members of staff. Football Tournaments The Year 5 and 6 football teams have both been in action at the recent Petworth Area Schools’ 6-a-side tournaments at Watersfield. The boys team finished 5th of the 6 competing schools and the girls team finished 3rd of the six competing schools. Both teams played very well and were fine ambassadors for the school. New Intake 2019 We are waiting for confirmation from parents who have been offered a place at St James’ to start in Reception Year in 2019; numbers are encouraging and we are expecting the intake to be double figures again this year. Church Lane Coldwaltham Pulborough West Sussex RH20 1LW Parent Governor Position St James’ School will shortly be entering into federation with Amberley School. As part of this process, the governing bodies of both schools will be disbanded and replaced with one single governing body overseeing both schools. Each school needs to have a parent governor and nominations are currently being sought for this role. Mrs Kirby, the clerk to the St James’ governors will shortly be distributing further information about the process, but, in the meantime, should any parent wish to find out more about the role, please do come and ask me. Money for Malawi Thank you to parents for supporting our cake sale at the end of last term to help raise money for our pen friends in Malawi following Cyclone Idia earlier in the year. So far the school has raised £141 and there are still Smartie tubes arriving at the school office. A special mention must go to Thomas in Year 5 who raised £70 by walking along the South Downs Way. The money will be sent directly to the families of the children who lost their homes in the cyclone and will make a tremendous difference to their lives. SATS Tests Children in Year 2 and Year 6 will be taking a series of Standard Assessment Tests in the next two weeks; we wish all our pupils well and know that they will all do their very best. InSet Day A reminder to parents; Friday 24th May and Monday 2nd September are staff training days so the school will be closed for children. The first day of the Autumn Term will be Tuesday 3rd September. Elm Class – “Treasures of the Tomb” Elm Class are learning about the Egyptians this term. They have been researching “Death Masks” and started work on their own. Bikeability Congratulations to the Year 6 children who completed their Stage 2 Bikeability Training before Easter. All the children taking part rode their bicycles sensibly on the roads near to Amberley School and we are delighted that they all earned a certificate. Ellie did especially well and passed the requirement of the Stage 3 course. Scooters on the Playground Whilst we like to encourage children to be active and ride their scooters to and from school, it has become a concern that a child could be hurt by a scooter on the playground. In light of this, please do not allow your children to scoot on the playground before or after school. Thank you. School Uniform – Reminder We have noticed an increase in the number of children wearing incorrect footwear to school. Please note that trainers can be worn for PE or for lunchtimes on the field but children also require school shoes. School Uniform can now be obtained from The Brothers Anyhow Ltd. Uniform can be ordered online at www.thebrothersanyhow.co.uk. Telephone 01932 368400. The School reference is SJP021. • Coldwaltham Parish Council (Hardham, Coldwaltham & Watersfield)
COLDWALTHAM PARISH COUNCIL (HARDHAM, COLDWALTHAM & WATERSFIELD) Parish Clerk, Coldwaltham Parish Council, Greendene, Codmore Hill, Pulborough, West Sussex, RH20 1BQ Tel: 01798 873747, Email: [email protected] SOUTH DOWNS LOCAL PLAN EXAMINATION HEARINGS This evidence to the examination is additional and new from the Parish Council’s response to the (Regulation 19) consultation on the Pre-Submission Local Plan. Our case is over two new issues: 1. That part of the SDNPA’s Brookview site (SD 64) not allocated for housing (the ‘residual area’), on which the Authority made new proposals in an updated list of ‘Main Modifications’ on 16 August 2018 (MM 25-30) i.e. long after our original submission. 2. Omission sites in our Parish, submitted by their owners in response to the Local Plan consultation, on which we had only partial information when submitting our original response. 1. The residual area The Brookview site is far too large even for the 28 homes proposed, which would occupy only two of its eight hectares. The remaining six hectares make up the ‘residual area’ in the SDNPA’s Policy SD64. Although a Development Brief was prepared for the developed area in March 2018, it did not offer a long-term sustainable solution to the management of the residual area, as the Parish Council pointed out in its response to the consultation on the Brief in April. There was no detail over costs or how they might be funded, and while the need for management was highlighted, nothing was said about the means for delivering it (pages 44-5, paras 23, 26, and 28 of the Brief).

Coldwaltham, Hardham and Watersfield Parish Council Newsletter 3 Supplement - New Year 2021. Dated 8th January 2021 We hope that everyone in our Parishes has had a safe and calm New Year, with no inappropriate visitors or events. We are noting some of the news items about large gatherings around the country, and hope that none of this behaviour is copied in this part of West Sussex. It is actually good to see so many more people out walking around the Parishes - also saying “Hello” - but staying on the other side of the road. The ground underfoot is very wet, so do be careful. Please do not churn up the footpaths with off-road bicycles of any kind! There are lots of rules. guidance and advice, about the lockdown arrangements and restrictions on these two websites: In short form, it says this: You may leave your home only: • To access basic necessities, either for yourself or on behalf of a vulnerable person or someone self-isolating. • To go to work or provide voluntary or charitable services. • To provide care for a disabled or vulnerable person. This means that residents can leave their house for shopping or to collect medication. Further guidance is available via the following sites: 1.https://www.gov.uk/guidance/tier-4-stay-at-home There is plenty of wider advice and links to sign up to for West Sussex newsletters here: 2.https://www.westsussex.gov.uk/fire-emergencies-and-crime/coronavirus-covid-19-advice- and-information/ 3.Both West Sussex Covid-19 Community Hub <https://www.westsussex.gov.uk/fire- emergencies-and-crime/coronavirus-covid-19-advice-and-information/community-hub-covid- 19/> or NHS <https://nhsvolunteerresponders.org.uk/> can support residents with food & medication and if possible this should be where they go for support.
