FOREWORD This publication has been prepared for presentation to you, a candidate for the degrees of Freemasonry; prior to your receipt of the Entered Apprentice Degree. It is hoped you will gain some understanding of the structure and purpose of Masonry. It is important that you learn these facts in advance to help you gain a greater appreciation of the degree itself. Another publication will be given to you after each of the three degrees. These will likewise be important to your understanding of what you will have seen and heard. These materials call for and deserve your careful study. SEEKING LIGHT Preparation You have been elected to membership in the Masonic Fraternity. Congratulations! In your petition soliciting this honor you made several significant statements. You stated that: - You were not biased by improper solicitations of friends. - You were not influenced by mercenary motives. - You were prompted by a desire for knowledge and a sincere wish to be of service to your fellow citizens. - You would cheerfully conform to all the ancient established usages and customs of the fraternity. All of this would indicate that you realize the importance of becoming a Mason.
