STRUBLE Grand Master 2015-2016 5 PROCEEDINGS OF THE 171st ANNUAL COMMUNICATION of the MOST WORSHIPFUL GRAND LODGE F. & A.M. OF WISCONSIN OPENING OF GRAND LODGE The Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of Wisconsin met in its 171st An- nual Communication on Friday and Saturday, June 5th and 6th at the Madison Masonic Center, 301 Wisconsin Avenue, Madison, Wisconsin. A Lodge of Master Masons at 8:30 a.m. o’clock was declared formally opened by the following officers from the Grand Master’s Lodge, Landmark Lodge No. 244 F. & A.M.: Worshipful Master ........................................................ Dale Brathol (River Falls Lodge No. 109) Secretary ........................Harold Christensen (New Richmond Lodge No. 195) ENTRANCE OF GRAND LODGE OFFICERS AND OPENING OF GRAND LODGE The Senior Deacon was asked by the Worshipful Master to escort Deputy Grand Master Franklin J. Struble and the 2014-2015 Grand Lodge officers into the lodge. The Deputy Grand Master was brought to the east where he and the Grand Lodge officers were given the Grand Honors. The Grand Lodge officers assumed their sta- tions. Grand Master William Beetcher was then escorted to the east by the Deputy Grand Master, and given the Grand Honors. The Deputy Grand Master presented Grand Master Beetcher with the gavel. INTRODUCTION OF PAST GRAND MASTERS Grand Master William Beetcher asked the Senior Grand Deacon, with the as- sistance of the Grand Marshall, the Senior Grand Deacon and the Junior Grand Deacon, to assemble the Past Grand Masters and guests and escort them into the Grand Lodge. He gaveled all to rise and give the Past Grand Masters the Grand Honors. The Past Grand Masters present were as follows: Allan E. Iding, (1981), James J. Byrnes, (1982), Robert E. PRESENTATION OF THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA Grand Master Beetcher asked the Junior Grand Deacon to retire and admit the color guard. The Right Eminent Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of the Knights Templar in the state of Wisconsin presented the flag of the United States of America. The assembly was asked to join in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, after which the first stanza of the Star Spangled Banner was sung. OPENING PRAYER Grand Master Beetcher called up on the Grand Chaplain to lead the assembly in prayer. Grand Master Beetcher declared the 171st Annual Communication, Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Wisconsin opened in ample form. This was imme- diately followed by Grand Master Beetcher declaring the Grand Lodge informal. 7 He called upon the Grand Deacon, and requested that the youth leaders be escorted to the podium for remarks. Raquel Frohm, Grand Bethel Honored Queen of the State of Wisconsin “This year I am proudly representing Job’s Daughter’s International, an organization for young women with Masonic Heritage. This morning I will keep it short and sweet, because I am aware that you have many resolutions and are working to change Masonry in Wisconsin for the better. Job’s Daughters International also works to change for the better. However, there are some things that we do not wish to change. One of those things is our Masonic Heritage. It has been brought up in the past that Job’s Daughters eliminate their requirement that a girl must be related to a Master Mason. I am proud to say that every time it is brought up, it is voted down. Our heritage means a great deal to us, and it makes us who we are. We are proud to be a part of the Masonic Family, and that is exactly what you all are to us---our family. You are our fathers, our uncles and our grandfathers, and if you don’t think this applies to you because you don’t have a young lady in your family, you’re wrong.

    Prince Hall , The history Prince Hall, our founder, was one of our great Americans, a worthy Grand Master associated with our first Grand Lodge and its expansion. His name is carried by our masonic organizations in the United States, and by thousands of freemasons who regard themselves as descendants from the Grand Lodge of England, from which he received his authority more than two centuries ago. We in America celebrated in 1976 the two hundredth anniversary of our Declaration of Independence. This is also the two hundred and first (201st) anniversary of the founding of Prince Hall Masonry. It is a monument to Prince Hall’s life, career and leadership. It was a significant event in Freemasonry on March 6, 1775, when Prince Hall and fourteen other men were initiated into Freemasonry through Warrant No. 459, which is still in our possession. John Batt, who was of the 38th Foot Regiment of the British Army, having enlisted in 1759 and learning of the American cause, re-enlisted in its army. The enlistees were Prince Hall, Cyrus Johnston, Bueston Slinger, Prince Rees, John Canton, Peter Freeman, Benjamin Tiler, Duff Ruform, Thomas Santerson, Prince Rayden, Cato Speain, Boston Smith, Peter Best, Forten Horward, and Richard Titley. The writer has this record. A permit was issued for these freemasons to meet as African Lodge No. 1, and they became the first Black freemasons in the United States. Prince Hall enlisted and served as a soldier in the 2nd and 6th Regiments of Massachusetts. In this connection, George W. Williams, historian, wrote in 1884, "that he saw hard service we know by the record of the two regiments he served in, always distinguished for steadiness and valor.

This year we surpassed $100,000 in our total contributions to Toys for Tots; our work with Simon Says Give contributed to the distribution of over 8,000 backpacks filled with sup- plies to ensure kids are ready for the start of school; we participated in meal packing events for Feed My Starving Children; we continued Study Session our contributions as a leading sponsor for the Wounded Warrior Project in Minnesota; we provided scholarships to new and current col- lege students; and we continued to partner with Bancroft School on our Books for Bikes program.

    District 4 Newsletter November 17, 2020 Edition Our Vision: “We will be the preeminent fraternity of choice for men of quality and vision who seek personal knowledge, moral growth and leadership development; ultimately improving the individual Mason, his community, and the world.” Brothers of District 4, COVID-19 is striking hard in Northeast Wisconsin and I want to personally thank each an every one of you for the actions you have taken to prevent the continued spread of the virus among our families, friends, and Brothers. Despite our collective efforts, many of our Brothers have acquired this illness and I encourage you and your lodges to continue your outreach efforts. Now is the time to put the tenets of our order to the test in the support of our extended lodge family. The holidays are fast approaching. Consider your Thanksgiving plans with care and consider the implications given COVID-19. If you are a deer hunter, please stay safe! Lastly, please reach out to your WM or Secretary to find out the status of your winter meetings or activities. Many lodges are cancelling events due to the explosion of COVID-19 cases in District #4.     ORIENT: LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS OFFICE OF THE SOVEREIGN GRAND COMMANDER Lexington, Massachusetts, June 6, 2018 TO ALL FREEMASONS OF THE ANCIENT ACCEPTED SCOTTISH RITE OF THE OBEDIENCE OF THIS SUPREME COUNCIL PEERS AND BRETHREN: ILL∴DONALD DAVIS THOMAS, 33° Active Emeritus Member for this Supreme Council for the state of Delaware, died on Tuesday, May 22, 2018. Ill∴ Donald Davis Thomas, 33°, was born on June 3, 1931, in Rochester, NY, the youngest of five children of Leslie G. and Francis Thomas. He was educated in the public school systems of New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. He attended the University of Pennsylvania where he earned a master of science degree in mechanical engineering. He also taught at the school of engineering there for three years. Following his time at the university he entered the aerospace industry, participating in numerous space programs. He retired from the Elkton Division of Thiokol Corporation after 36 years. In September 1954, he was united in marriage to Pamela Brewell, who survives together with their children, Tracy and Chris, as well as grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Donald and Pamela were active members of the Newark Community. They attended the Newark United Methodist Church, and he served as head usher for more than 35 years, as well as on several committees. He was active in Boy Scout Troop No. 255, in Newark. Our Illustrious Brother had a distinguished career in Freemasonry: SYMBOLIC: Raised a Master Mason in Hiram Lodge No. 25, of Newark, Delaware on June 7, 1965. He was Worshipful Master in 1978. Brother Thomas was the Charter Junior Warden of the Delaware Lodge of Research and served as its Master from 1977-79.

DARLING GRAND MASTER 4 GRAND LODGE OF MINNESOTA BIOGRAPHY GRAND MASTER ROBERT L. DARLING Robert L. Darling, “Bob”, was born on February 17, 1956 in Mattoon, Illinois. His parents were Russell D. and Theresa D. Darling. They lived in Greenup, Illinois. The family moved from Greenup to Decatur, Illinois and then to Maroa, Illinois where he attended the Maroa Elementary and Maroa-Forsyth High School. After graduating from the high school in mid-year, Bob enrolled and attended Illinois State University located in Normal, Illinois. In December 1976, he graduated with a B.S. Degree in Industrial Technology. Bob has worked for numerous companies including Caterpillar Inc. in Decatur, Illinois; Baldwin Associates, Clinton, Illinois; Schrock Cabinets/An Electrolux Company, Arthur, Illinois, Electrolux Home Products, St. Cloud, Minnesota. He is currently employed with the State of Minnesota, Department of Labor and Industry, OSHA Enforcement as a Safety Investigator Principal, and has worked there since 2003. Bob has been a Master Mason for 29 years. He was initiated on November 23, 1987; passed to a Fellowcraft on December 12, 1987; and was raised to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason on January 9, 1988 by Maroa Lodge No.

    Alexandria, Virginia Volume 9 Number 1 Greetings From The President by Warren D. Lichty It is a great pleasure for me to announce that another of our Members has stepped up to the plate and become truly active in support of the memory of George Washington, the Mason, supporting this magnificent building which Masons of the United States erected to memorialize him. The Grand Jurisdiction of Kansas, at its last Grand Lodge Session, voted to enact a fifty-cent per-capita annual contribution to the George Washington Masonic Memorial Association. We are so grateful to the Grand Lodge of Kansas. I wish to personally thank M.W. Glenn E. Kohr since it was during his Grand Lodge Session that the action was taken. His leadership, together with that of M.W. Robert L. Tomlinson, Jr., the current Grand Master of Kansas, made this happen. Credit should also go to the other Grand Lodge Officers who were instrumental in bringing this per-capita contribution to fruition. Dedicated leaders such as these bring progress in Masonry. I am also pleased to announce the appointment of M.W. Roger A. Simmons, Past Grand Master of Alabama and a current member of our Board of Directors as a member of the Executive Committee. Roger is a sincere and dedicated Mason who will bring us great representation from the South. Welcome aboard, Roger. The Annual Meeting of the Association was held in Minneapolis on February 17, 2003. All agenda items were covered in the allotted time. We are truly grateful for the many annual contributions from Grand Lodges and Appendant Bodies which we received following the Meeting.
