Through the cooperation extended by JICA, the Oil Spill Response Teams of the SLCG had received training from experts of Japan’s Coast Guard National Strike Team in January and February 2015 and the skills and Knowledge gained through the training programme enabled them to handle the incident with great confidence. Additionally vital equipment provided by JICA also enabled SLGC to react to the situation immediately. Following the successful implementation of the programme in January, a second batch of SLCG personnel also received advance Coast Guards in operation during Thaldiyawatte Lagoon Incident training on emergency response at the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Headquarters. Showcasing the skills acquired through training, the Sri Lanka Coast Guard conducted a demonstration and exhibition at the Dikowita Harbor on 29th January.
