Dr. Roger Knapp discussed "The Callers Respons;:bility In the Round Dance Picture" in the May 1962 AMERICAN SQUARES. This article is the result of the many letters commenting on Dr. Knapp's first article.

It has been my feeling, and I have so stated nationally during the past ten years, that the square and round dance movement is one in which people should have fun. It is not up to any one person in the field to tell the dancers how they have to dance, look, dress, or act in order to have the fun that this dance move- ment can give to the individual couple. If Joe Smith wishes to wear an old shirt and torn pants and Jim Brown wishes to wear a lace ruffled shirt and funny pants, it is up, to them as individuals to wear what they want. Jean and Roger Knapp have been a part If he doesn't want to dance Latin of Square and Couple Dancing for 15 years. rhythm routines it is his business Teachers, composers, exhibitionists, they and he should not be forced to dance live in Corpus, Christi, Texas. them. And just because Joe Smith is careful of his calls, knows his calls, a "hot shot" caller does not mean that and can give the most fun through every caller has to be one. Not because they can do The fact that round dancing is the fancy figures he calls, but because growing away from square dancing the word gets around that Joe Smith was pointed out in my first article and can call such mixed up figures that most readers seem to realize this.
