Institutionalisation of Aborigines, under the guise of assimilation and protection policies, was only abandoned in.the lg7Os. It is therefore important to understand the implications of these policies for Aborigines and Australian society in general. I investigate the affect of institutionalisation on Aborigines, questioning the assumption tl.at they were passive victims forced onto missions and government stations and kept there as virtual prisoners.

Naretha Meteorite (Synonyms Kingoonya, Kingooya)
Rec. West. Aust. Mus., 1976, 4 (1) NARETHA METEORITE (Sync;>nyms: Kingoonya, Kingooya) W.H. CLEVERLY* [Received 27 May 1975. Accepted 1 October 1975. Published 31 August 1976.1 ABSTRACT Much of the missing portion of the Naretha (Western Australia) meteorite has been located in museums as an un-named specimen and as two smaller specimens masquerading under the name 'Kingoonya' (or 'Kingooya'). The use of the junior synonyms with their implications of a South Australian site of find should be discontinued. INTRODUCfION Naretha meteorite, an L4 chondrite, was found in 1915 about 3 km north of the 205-mile station during construction of the Trans-Australian Railway. It was broken into at least three major pieces which were acquired by Mr John Darbyshire, Supervising Engineer for the construction of the western end of the railway (construction was proceeding simultaneously from both Kalgoorlie and Port Augusta ends - Fig. 1). Mr Darbyshire donated the meteorite to the W.A. School of Mines in Kalgoorlie where one' piece was retained and exhibited with a photograph of the reassembled meteorite (Fig. 2). A second fragment which was passed on to the Geological Survey of Western Australia was noted briefly by Simpson (1922) who first used the name 'Naretha', the name which had been given to the 205-mile station. There is strong presumptive evidence that the third fragment was passed on to Mr S.F.C. Cook of Kalgoorlie, a private collector from whose inaccurate verbal statements and undocumented collection, the subsequent confusion arose. Bernard Singer advised those on the phone who were present in the room for the meeting. An agenda was faxed to the phone participants. Kawaki Thompson gave an opening prayer. New Business 2. Anangu Rights Legal Briefing – R Merkel, QC In light of repeated personal attacks on the General Manager and Principal Legal Officer, by, or generated by, non-Anangu with a conflict of interest, they recommended that independent legal advice be provided by the QC in their absence. The Chairperson excused the GM and Legal Officer from the meeting for this portion and the Minutes were recorded by Rodney Edwards, LM Coordinator. Bernard Singer welcomed Ron back to the Lands and Ron said it was a privilege to be back. He said the Government is challenging Anangu in several ways. The government is saying APY cannot control the use of the Lands and the government has the power to decide on services and activities.

2019/20 SA Arid Lands Community Grant Summary PROJECT APPLICANT AMOUNT PROJECT SUMMARY DISTRICT COMMUNIWUE Discovering the Arkaba $8,820 This project is one component of a biological survey aimed at assessing and documenting the natural values of the Arkaba North Flinders Small Ground- Conservancy Conservancy - an area that is an important refuge for biological diversity lying adjacent to the Ikara-Flinders Ranges Dwelling Fauna Northern National Park and providing ecological links with mountain ranges extending into the southern Flinders Ranges north of of Arkaba Flinders NRM Quorn. Despite its importance for nature conservation, no previous surveys to determine the range of small ground- District dwelling fauna that exist on this property have occurred. The project includes the purchase of materials to install permanent pitfall trapping lines at six sites located in a range of vegetation communities and is part of a broader biological survey that will improve knowledge of the flora and fauna of the area. Blinman Cactus Blinman $5,000 This project will continue to support the wider community of volunteers who have developed a commitment to assist with North Flinders Control Progress the control of cactus species listed on the WONS list, in the Blinman district.
