The seeds blow into their ponds and are eaten from the surface, perhaps as the turtles forage on other floating vegetation, such as duckweed. We have tested the positive viability of these seeds and speculate that they can be dispersed on land as the turtles travel overland to other ponds in the vicinity, to basking areas on shore, or during female travel to nesting sites.
