    ONLINE EXCHANGE BRESCIA & BRUSY Istituto Tecnico Tecnologico Baracca Kaszubskie Liceum Ogólnokształcące w Brusach 2021 Elisa Lacagnina Thanks to the Etwinning platform I had the possibility to know Ms. Alicja Frymark, English teacher from Kashubian Secondary School (Kaszubskie Liceum Ogólnokształcące) in Brusy, Poland. Since our first online meeting on Skype, we have kept talking, most of all, of our school project called “Online exchange - Brescia & Brusy”. To start, we decided to assign our students a partner to make them work in pairs. Their task was to exchange emails with their friend about the topic given and then, with the information, to write a short article in English. We assigned different topics like Covid 19 and lockdown; traditional food; language uses; interesting facts about the city, the country and the region; school; local tradition. The first part of the project went really well and I was satisfied with the work done. My 5th-year students are enthusiastic about having a “virtual” foreign partner. I decided to start an online exchange because my students felt the need to improve their English speaking and writing skills, as we have only 3 hour English a week. According to me, these opportunities are not only useful to improve the language skills but also to expand your knowledge, to meet new people, to know about the uses and the customs of different countries. Moreover, it was the right moment to start a project of this kind precisely in this difficult period. We have been experiencing a different life, due to Covid 19 home–schooling, restrictions, curfews, prohibitions etc.

    Lions Club Ekenäs 50 år Lions Club Ekenäs Tryckplats: Ekenäs Tryckeri 2008 Presidentens förord Lions Club Ekenäs firar 50-årsjubileum i oktober 2008. Björn Björkvall, lektor i religion och filosofi vid Ekenäs samlyceum, tog initiativet till att grunda LC Ekenäs. Den 1 april 1958 bildades klubben och charterfesten hölls den 25 oktober samma år. Då LC Ekenäs grundades för 50 år sedan stod LC Lohja som fadderklubb. Vid olika jubiléer som hållits i vår klubb har det getts ut historiker. Nu vid 50-årsjubiléet ges den i en ny utformning som benämns jubileumsskrift. Först beskrivs klubbens tillkomst och lionsrörelsens uppkomst i Finland, varefter följer en allmän översikt över Lions Club Ekenäs verksamhet. Därefter berättar den enda kvarvarande chartermed- lemmen Johan Rappe om sina hågkomster. I specialtexter skrivna av lionsbröder som har varit länge med i klubben och i specialintervjuer kan man läsa om olika aktiviteter. Ladylions har sedan början aktivt medverkat i klubbens verksamhet och de har fått en egen text i jubileumsskriften. Jubileumsskriften har sammanställts av Mårten Kevin och för layouten står Kaj Koivumäki. Tack vare befolkningens välvilliga inställning har vi kunnat ha vår mångsidiga verksamhet, vari också har ingått större projekt, såsom den av barnen högt uppskattade Lions Park. Den senaste och fjärde större donationen gäller ljugarbänken som överläts till Ekenäs stad på sommaren inför klubbens 50-årsjubileum.     Background Information Treaty of Westphalia The Peace of Westphalia, also known as the Treaty of Münster and the Treaty of Osnabrück, refers to a pair of treaties that ended the Thirty Years' War and officially recognized the Dutch Republic and Swiss Confederation. • The Spanish treaty that ended the Thirty Years' War was signed on January 30, 1648. • A treaty between the Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand III, the other German princes and the representatives from the Dutch Republic, France and Sweden was signed on October 24, 1648. • The Treaty of the Pyrenees, signed in 1659, ending the war between France and Spain, is also often considered part of this treaty. The Peace of Westphalia is the first international agreement to acknowledge a country's sovereignty and is thus thought to mark the beginning of the modern system of nation- states (Westphalian states). The majority of the treaty's terms can be attributed to the work of Cardinal Mazarin, the de facto leader of France at the time (the King, Louis XIV, was still a child). France came out of the war in a far better position than any of the other powers and was able to dictate much of the treaty. The results of the treaty were wide ranging. Among other things, the Netherlands now officially gained independence from Spain, ending the Eighty Years' War, and Sweden gained Pomerania, Wismar, Bremen and Verden. The power of the Holy Roman Emperor was broken and the rulers of the German states were again able to determine the religion of their lands. The treaty also gave Calvinists legal recognition.

    The Finnish Archipelago Coast from AD 500 to 1550 – a Zone of Interaction Tapani Tuovinen [email protected], [email protected] Abstract New archaeological, historical, paleoecological and onomastic evidence indicates Iron Age settle- ment on the archipelago coast of Uusimaa, a region which traditionally has been perceived as deso- lated during the Iron Age. This view, which has pertained to large parts of the archipelago coast, can be traced back to the early period of field archaeology, when an initial conception of the archipelago as an unsettled and insignificant territory took form. Over time, the idea has been rendered possible by the unbalance between the archaeological evidence and the written sources, the predominant trend of archaeology towards the mainland (the terrestrical paradigm), and the history culture of wilderness. Wilderness was an important platform for the nationalistic constructions of early Finnishness. The thesis about the Iron Age archipelago as an untouched no-man’s land was a history politically convenient tacit agreement between the Finnish- and the Swedish-minded scholars. It can be seen as a part of the post-war demand for a common view of history. A geographical model of the present-day archaeological, historical and palaeoecological evi- dence of the archipelago coast is suggested.
