How to update your personal profile on the Centre’s website? www.coralcoe.org.au

WordPress software is used to update the Centre website. Before you proceed it’s easier to write up a draft in your favourite word processor (e.g. Microsoft Word) using the templates provided p7 and 8, with the selected headings. If you are a researcher, have a look at existing profiles in http://www.coralcoe.org.au/person_type/researchers for inspiration. If you are a student, have a look at existing profiles in http://www.coralcoe.org.au/person_type/students for inspiration.

STEP 1: Find your profile page

Choose one of the two options below Option 1

1. Open up the ARC's new website: www.coralcoe.org.au

2. Find your existing profile in www.coralcoe.org.au/person_type/researchers and click on ‘VIEW PROFILE’. If your profile is not already on the website, please contact the communications manager ([email protected]) to create one.

3. Click ‘MEMBER LOGIN’ on the top right corner of the window

4. Log in using previous login details and password. - You don’t have a login and password? Please contact the communications manager ([email protected]). - Lost your password? Click ‘LOST YOUR PASSWORD?’ and follow the prompt.

5. Click on ‘Edit Person’ on the top menu. You can now edit your profile.

Option 2

1. Open up the ARC's new website: www.coralcoe.org.au

2. Click ‘MEMBER LOGIN’ on the top right corner of the window

3. Log in using previous login details and password. - You don’t have a login and password? Please contact the communications manager. - You lost your password? Click ‘LOST YOUR PASSWORD?’ and follow the prompts.

4. Once you’re logged in, hover your cursor on ‘ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef…’ on the top left panel, then click on ‘DASHBOARD’.

5. Once you are in dashboard view, hover your cursor over to ‘People’ to get the selections on the left panels. Select ‘All People’ in the tab that appeared to the right.

6. Insert your name in the ‘Search People’ box on the top right corner.

7. Once you have found your profile, click on the link. You can now edit your profile.

Step 2: Edit the information in your Profile

The personal contact information (Title, Location, Email Address, Phone) has been pre-filled by the communications manager. Check your ‘person category’

Double check that the correct ‘person category’ (e.g. researcher, student, alumni) for your position is ticked.

Update your profile picture

1. Hover on the ‘Image’ section and click on the ‘Delete’ button

2. Click Add Image and upload a new profile picture by following the prompts. - Please ensure you name your image with your first name and surname. - Your photo should be a head and shoulders shot, and your face must be recognisable (e.g. avoid photos where you are wearing sunglasses or a dive mask).

- Your photo should be at least 500x500px.

Update your profile information

1. Basic information: - : write your Twitter handle without the ‘@’. For example, if your Twitter handle is ‘@johndoe’, write ‘johndoe’ - Info: this is a mini CV with a few bullet points about your previous appointments. It is optional for students. For example:  ARC Super Science Fellow (2012-2015)  ARC Postdoctoral ResearchFellow (2008-2012) - Education: write your degrees. For example:  PhD, James Cook University (2005)  MSc, James Cook University (2010) - Groups: to which research groups you belong. For example: Program 1: People and Ecosystems; the Conservation Planning group.

2. Biography: - Bio: don’t worry about this section. - Full Bio: write your full bio. This is where you can put as much information as you like about your research. However, we encourage you to follow a similar outline to the one in the template below.

To display headings in the right format: please select your heading, click on ‘Paragraph’ and select ‘Heading 3’ in the dropdown menu.

Add documents to your profile (e.g. CV)

Upload the file 1. To upload your CV and attach it to your page, click on ‘ADD MEDIA’ tab, which is right under the FULL BIO, as circled above. A new window will be displayed and the procedure is very much similar to uploading your image. PLEASE LABEL YOUR CV as [CV_firstname_surname] when uploading. Link the file to a text in your profile (e.g. ‘Curriculum Vitae’) 2. Do NOT click ‘Insert into post’ once you uploaded your file. Instead, copy the URL of your uploaded file. Close the ‘Insert Media’ window.

3. In the ‘Full Bio’ section, copy and insert the link of your uploaded CV via hyperlink to the text you wish to link to your file (e.g. ‘Curriculum Vitae’).

Add photos to your profile (e.g. field work)

1. Left click with your cursor where you want the picture to be. 2. Click on the ‘add media’ icon

3. Click on ‘upload files’ if the picture is on your computer and the picture will be uploaded. You can drop files directly in the box to upload them, or browse your computer to select them.

4. Once your picture is there, the information will be displayed on the right panel ‘ATTACHMENT DETAILS’. - 1 - Label your images so they are easy to find in the future, e.g. ‘profile_johndoe1’. - 2 - The standard format is align ‘left’, size ‘medium’. Change the setting to ‘medium’ and alignment to ‘left’. - 3 - Click ‘insert into post’.

Step 3: Preview your profile and update

1. Scroll back to the top of the page and click on ‘PREVIEW’ to have a final check on your post, then click on ‘PUBLISH’ to make your post live

2. It’s done! Go celebrate 
