Coupling the majesty of the equine with the elegance of the English country estate, the freshness of the outdoor lifestyle with the flavour of fine dining, and the raw power of competition with the graceful dance of the horse ‑ Eventing at Chilham Park offers our sponsors a unique way to promote their brand, network with like‑mind individuals, enjoy top quality sponsoring action and entertain their guests. Eventing has its roots in the selection and training of cavalry horses and consists of three phases of competition ‑ Dressage, Show Jumping and Cross Country. CROSS COUNTRY Technical perfection, peak condition and diverse skills are required for this demanding and exhilarating spectacle. Horse & rider tackle a lengthy and challenging course of natural fixed obstacles, at speed, across undulating parkland. DRESSAGE Combines supreme control and technical excellence. The slightest signal from the rider alters the direction and movement of the horse. Performing a set pattern of movements, dressage, combinations are marked on their accuracy and elegance. SHOW JUMPING Judgement, speed & accuracy are required for this crucial and often decisive phase. Navigating a course of substantial, bright and easily dislodged obstacles, this phase tests the athleticism of horse and rider to the maximum. COMMITMENT Experience, training and commitment are necessary for success in eventing, along with the investment of a significant amount of time and finances. Such are the demands at the higher levels that eventing can become a full‑time career and necessitates an extended support crew at home and on the road. The eventing community is, for all it’s size, very close‑knit. Jumping fixed obstacles at speed carries an element of risk ‑ mutual appreciation and care between participants is commonplace.     GREAT CHART WITH SINGLETON – FEBRUARY 2020 As you are all aware, Ashford has recently seen very unsettled weather as Storm Dennis, Storm Ciara and Storm Jorge battered the country. Strong winds and torrential downpours caused many roads in the area to be blocked by falling trees. On Sunday, 16th February, my colleague and I were deployed to a tree that had fallen onto a vehicle along the A252 that runs from Molash to Chilham. Remarkably, the driver of the vehicle walked away uninjured. We were then there for 4 hours waiting for Kent Highways’ tree surgeons to remove the tree that had blocked the road. Over the last few weeks, Ashford PCSOs have attended many fallen trees in order to help keep the public safe and traffic moving. During the February school holiday, Police Community Support Officers have, once again, been involved in an operation with regards to nuisance youths and antisocial behaviour. Traditionally the school holidays have been a busy period for Kent Police when it comes to a minority of youths causing problems. The aim of this operation is to conduct pro-active patrolling and deal with youths as soon as possible when issues are reported to us. In February, Police Community Support Officers were also involved with a different operation which was organised by the Kent Police Community Safety Unit. This was to raise the awareness of knife crime and to talk to the 8000 children in our local secondary schools about it. Test purchasing of knives was also carried out by non-uniformed police cadets who were underage.
