World of Sports: I am excited and honored to welcome you to the fall athletic season. I look forward to seeing many familiar faces and meeting new members of the Grandview community. The Fall season has just begun but we have already had a handful of exciting games with lots of energy from our fans. Many of Grandview’s athletic events will be streamed by our student broadcast team on GVTV for free at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCv7W1xRNvhKXTK- em3HMiZQ. Games may also be streamed on the NFHS Network. Please visit http://www.nfhsnetwork.com/schools/grandview-high-schoolaurora-co to get your subscription. For all upcoming games please visit the Grandview Athletics Calendar at https://www.centennialleagueco.org/public/genie/807/school/5/ Cross Country (Head Coach John Walsh, [email protected]) The Grandview Boys and Girls cross country team has gotten off to a great start to the season. The varsity girls’ team took 1st place in the Aurora City Championships and the boys’ team took 2nd place. The following week the teams flip-flopped with the boys’ team taking 1st in the Washington Park Invite and the girls’ taking 2nd. Top athletes this year on the girls’ side are Megan Ericksen, Ashlynn Mojica, Grace Kirkpatrick, Emma Thomure and Summer Abeyta. On the boys’ side are Tyler Garfield, Owen Zitek, Jacob Blevins, Andy Fox, and Lucas Blevins. The teams look to continue their positive momentum at pre-state this week and the iconic Liberty Bell Invitational the following weekend. Field Hockey (Head Coach Alex Smith, [email protected]) Field Hockey is well underway and we are excited to be playing in the fall again! We are still searching for our first win of the season and are confident in our ability to compete the rest of the season. We have a great group of girls who are very positive and hard working. Come support us the rest of the season!! Football (Head Coach Tom Doherty, [email protected]) This was Coach Doherty’s first game as Grandview’s Head Football Coach. The Wolves fought all night long pulling out a gritty 30-29 win over Pomona in the final seconds, as Sophomore Liam Szarka took the ball into the endzone from the one yard line. Coach Doherty was also named the Denver Broncos Coach of the Week. https://chsaanow.com/news/2021/8/31/denver-broncos-high-school-football-coach- of-the-week-grandviews-tom-doherty.aspx? fbclid=IwAR0i16DW3gkcnrhFDy_gPyBsoOu2qmrI3IBMu4q2-xc1j1TNUisVcCVdjQg Golf-Boys (Head Coach Kurtis Bailey, [email protected]) This year our four seniors have given us a legitimate opportunity to qualify for the state tournament as a team. We have been led by two former state individual qualifiers, Kenny VanWormer and Alex Chitkoksoong. Our other seniors are Lukas Beisner, a raw, improving talent and Charles O’Donnell, a tremendous ball striker. We have one junior on our varsity team, Jordan Ulitzky, who has shown great improvement throughout the season. Together the team has finished 3rd in each league meet, finishing only behind perennial state powers Arapahoe and Cherry Creek. We are looking forward to competing in regionals the week of September 20th-23rd. Gymnastics (Co-op with Overland and Cherry Creek HS) Boys’ Soccer (Head Coach Brian Wood, [email protected]) Grandview is off to a 1-2 start to their season. The Wolves defeated Hinkley for their first win of the season and have lost to Fort Collins and Mountain Vista each by one goal. Their very difficult non-conference schedule will help them prepare to compete for the Centennial League Championship and make a deep run into the playoffs. Softball (Head Coach Liz Carter, [email protected]) Grandview Softball started the season strong with an 8-4 victory over Pomona under the lights at Metro State Softball Field. The team learned a lot in their next three games and were able to earn a 9-inning, 9-8 walk off victory over Regis. The Wolves will play in the Don McCall tournament in Castle Rock this weekend. Tennis (Head Coach Jeff Ryan, [email protected]) The boys’ tennis season began last Monday against Creek 2. Although they came up short, our #1 Singles (Bruno Denegri) won, and our #2 Singles (Josh Son) took a set from his opponent.
