PRESS RELEASE

UNITED WATER MANALAPAN TO BEGIN 2015 SPRING FIRE HYDRANT FLUSHING MANALAPAN, NJ, April 16, 2015 – Beginning Monday morning, April 27, 2015, United Water M a n a l a p a n will begin to flush f i r e hydrants throughout its service territory. The flushing program is expected to last approximately ten (10) days, concluding on or about Thursday, May 7, 2015.

United Water crews are scheduled to work Monday through Thursday between the hours of 9 AM and 3:30 PM.

“United Water follows an essential flushing program twice a year, in the spring and fall, in order to remove sediments from mainline pipes to enhance water quality and also verify the ample flow of water for firefighting,” said Jim Mastrokalos, Director of Operations. “During flushing operations, customers may experience temporary incidences of low water pressure or volume and slight discoloration or cloudiness, which is not harmful. It is best to shut the water off, then check clarity by running cold water for a few minutes, allowing new water to work its way into the pipes,” he added.

If residential and business customers observe United Water crews working on streets where their homes and offices are located, the Company advises not to use tap water, washing machines or dishwashers until the brief flushing activity is completed. Customers may wish to fill up clean bottles or containers with tap water ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator to use for drinking or cooking during their own specific street flushing segment. Customers are also asked to be attentive while walking or driving near United Water flushing trucks and crew members to ensure safety.
