TITRE EN FRANÇAIS: Leadership entrepreneurial en communauté pour une performance durable: études de cas dans le tourisme à base communautaire Homestay, en Thaïlande. RÉSUMÉ EN FRANÇAIS: Le but principal de cet étude est de fournir un état des lieux complet du style de leadership entrepreneurial effectif dans le tourisme à base communautaire Homestay pour une performance durable, en utilisant la bonne performance du tourisme à base communautaire Homestay qui opère en faveur du développement durable. La stratégie du cas d'étude, qui est une des stratégies de la méthodologie de la recherche qualitative, est utilisée. Les données sont collectées depuis plusieurs sources: preuve documentaire, observation des participants, et entretiens avec le leader et les personnes de trois communautés. La principale conclusion de cette étude a montré que pour développer un leadership entrepreneurial effectif pour une performance durable, le leadership entrepreneurial nécessite trois principes : ambidextrie cognitive, SEERS (responsabilité et durabilité sociale, environnementale et économique), et conscience de soi et sociale, comme le principe de Greenberg et al. (2011). Toutefois, l'aspect ambidextrie cognitive peut être substitué par l'utilisation d'équipes de consultants effectives. De plus, ces caractéristiques de personnalité peuvent être développées pour des communautés durables. TITRE EN ANGLAIS : Entrepreneurial leadership in the community for sustainable performance: case studies from the successful Homestay community-base tourism in Thailand. RÉSUMÉ EN ANGLAIS: The main purpose of this study was undertaken in order to provide a comprehensive picture of the effective entrepreneurial leadership style in Homestay community-based tourism (CBT) for sustainable performance by using the good-performance of Homestay CBT in Thailand with has the operation toward to sustainable development. The case study strategies, which is one of the strategies in the qualitative research methodology was used. Data were collected from multiple sources: documentary evidence, participant observation, and interviews with the leader and people of three communities. The main finding of this study showed that to develop the effective entrepreneurial leadership for sustainable performance, the entrepreneurial leadership needs three principles; Cognitive ambidexterity, SEERS (social, environmental, and economic responsibility and sustainability), and self-and social awareness as the principle of Greenberg et al. (2011). However, in Cognitive ambidexterity aspect could substitute by using the effective consultant teams. Besides, those of personality characteristics are able to develop for sustainable communities. Due to the efforts of researchers, environmental activists, non-governmental organizations, and public officials, community-based tourism (CBT) has become in the past decade an important component of the domestic tourism market, and signifies trends that are more encouraging than those associated with more conventional forms of tourism in Thailand. While it is true that some rural communities in Thailand struggle to plan, initiate, and sustain CBT projects, it is nevertheless possible, with the right combination of circumstances, to pursue successful CBT. The paper explores the emergence of CBT in Thailand, and examines the case study of Mae Kampong, a village in the Northern Thai province of Chiang Mai that is renowned nationally as a showcase CBT community. Using data and observations gathered during more than 30 research or study-tour visits to Mae Kampong, this paper argues that fortunate geographical conditions, external support, and transformational leadership represent the most important determinants of success for CBT in Thailand.

The rapid diet transition in the region is leading to a high prevalence of non-communicable diseases. The aim of this exploratory study was to document traditional foods and beverages and associated traditional knowledge that have potential positive health impacts, from selected countries in the region. The study also focused on identifying their importance in the prevention and management of lifestyle-related diseases and nutritional deficiencies as well as for the improvement of the overall health and wellbeing. This was conducted in selected locations in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Nepal through a qualitative method with a pre-tested documentation format. Through a detailed documentation of their health benefits, the study tries to highlight the significance of traditional foods in public health as well as their relevance to local market economies towards sustainable production and consumption and sustainable community livelihoods. MCNEILL INTRODUCTION DURING 1979 AND 1980 the Khorat Basin Archaeological Project (KBAP)-a co­ operative project involving researchers from the University of Hawaii, the Fine Arts Department of Thailand, and Chulalongkorn University-conducted survey and excavation of sites in the vicinity of the town of Phimai in northeast Thailand. Phimai formerly served as a regional Khmer sacred, administrative, and commerical center from about A.D. 1000 to 1300. Archaeological and historical evidence indi­ cated that Phimai might have been an important center before its integration into the Khmer state. The approach taken in the research was regional, investigating the development of Phimai as a major center by focusing upon the towns that formed alternative or minor centers and upon the villages and farms that constituted the hinterland for Phimai and supported its development. The primary focus of the investigations was on the fortified or moated sites, sites surrounded with earth walls and moats, first identified on aerial photographs by Peter Williams-Hunt (1950). The goals of the research included the location, mapping, and dating of the moated sites in the Phimai region and determination of the function, date of construction, and present condition of the earthworks at these sites. Two hypotheses were pro­ posed for testing: (1) the concentration of population into these moated sites was associated with the practice of intensive wet rice agriculture, and (2) these sites were centers for long-distance exchange.

Two abandoned wooden houses as permanent bat roosts were selected: one at an exposed spot with higher damaged condition; another one was less damaged and covered with wild vegetation. Bats were trapped in their roost, identified as Cynopterus horsfieldii and Cynopterus brachyotis. Microclimate conditions of both bat roosts were recorded twice at 08:00 and 12:00 each day for seven weeks. Microclimate analyses show the more covered roost had significant lower mean for roost temperature, light intensity, and wind speed than the more exposed roost, but no significant difference between the humidity of both roosts. Daily roost counts at noon reveals more Cynopterus bat individuals roosting at the less exposed and isolated roost consistently during the study, indicates this genus still prefer a more sheltered roost without human activities despite having adapted well to urbanisation.

The country has continuously promoted the tourism sector for over 30 years, undertaking numerous campaigns and strategies to foster the development of tourism. More recently, efforts have been emphasizing on tourism development at the community level in which tourism is increasingly being recognized for its socio-economic benefits to the host communities. Community-Based Tourism (CBT) is the approach that recognizes the social, environmental and economic impacts of tourism upon the local community and its surroundings. CBT focuses on the involvement of local community in the development process and ensures that a major share of tourism benefits remains within the community. The main purpose of this paper is to examine the development of CBT at Ban Prasat village archaeological site in Thailand, with a specific focus on its local management practices. Specifically, the paper outlines three main themes. In this study, we compared the abundance and network strength of facultative and obligate nectar-feeding bats to determine their roles in pollinating mixed fruit orchards. We were particularly interested in the effect of distance from forests and caves on the foraging activity of these two bat groups. For this study, we examined 10 pairs of orchards; each pair consisted of one orchard near to (< 1 km) and one orchard far from (> 7 km) the forest edge. We estimated the abundance of each bat group (nectarivorous vs. frugi- nectarivorous) using video observations to determine floral visitation rates. A pollination network was then created for each of the 20 study orchards and network strength was calculated for each bat group at each orchard. We found that nectarivorous bats showed higher abundance and network strength than frugi-nectarivorous bats. Both bat abundance and network strength were negatively correlated with distance to the nearest cave, however, only network strength was affected by distance to the forest. These results corroborate the importance of nectarivorous bats in pollinating crops within southern Thailand’s mixed fruit orchards. Higher network strength of bats near forests and caves emphasizes the role of natural habitats as pollinator sources.
