ACTA ARCHAEOLOGICA CARPATHICA VOL. LV (2020): 111–136 PL ISSN 0001-5229 DOI 10.4467/00015229AAC.20.006.13511 Marta stasiaK-Cyran New perspectives of studies in the Przeworsk culture in the Lublin region – on the example of the results of interdisciplinary studies of site 5 in Nieszawa Kolonia, Opole Lubelskie district, Lublin voivodship Abstract: The last twenty years have brought discoveries which provide a large number of sources concerning the archaeology of the Roman Period in the Lublin region. The interdisciplinary studies related to site 5 in Nieszawa Kolonia, Opole Lubelskie district, Lublin region, Poland, have generated a substantial part of these new sources. The multi-aspectual analysis of archaeological and biological sources allowed us to characterize of the economy of the dwellers of the settlement which was constituted by agriculture, animal husbandry and fishing. The relative chronology of the settlement was established, and the first stage of its functioning was determined as belonging to phase B2, until phase C1a inclusive. The second stage of the utilisation of the settlement is dated to phase C3-D1. Three instances of radiocarbon dating confirm the chronological frame established by relative dating. The presented analysis of selected archaeological sources from site 5 in Nieszawa Kolonia, especially of ceramic material, seems to confirm the possibility that in the early Roman period, in the Lublin region, especially in its western part, infiltration of Dacian cultural elements into the Przeworsk environment took place. It is undeniable that the chronology of the settlement in Nieszawa Kolonia extends beyond the established time frame assumed for the functioning of the Przeworsk culture in the Lublin region.

It contains the defined costs for the business registration itself, and for construction of a facility where the registered activity will be performed. The data published in this study were collected through the survey conducted in all municipalities in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in July 2001. After summarizing all collected data, it was determined that there are few identical forms and approaches to the same category of the costs that a small and medium size business company can have as a precondition for starting its normal work.

Although a large number of BSCL cases was previously identifed in Rio Grande do Norte (RN), a state in Northeast Brazil, its prevalence in RN regions and municipalities remains unknown. The purpose of this study was to better characterize the prevalence of BSCL in RN. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted using secondary data obtained from the Association of Parents and People with BSCL of RN to determine its prevalence. The patients’ socio-demographic characteristics and geolocaliza‑ tion were analyzed. Results: We estimated a total of 103 BSCL cases in RN, resulting in a prevalence of 3.23 per 100,000 people. The Cen‑ tral Potiguar mesoregion, Seridó territory, Carnaúba dos Dantas and Timbaúba dos Batistas municipalities had a much higher prevalence of BSCL, with 20.56, 20.66, 498.05 and 217.85 per 100,000 people, respectively. Conclusions: Together, our results showed that BSCL is highly prevalent in RN and confrmed that our state has one of the highest prevalences of this lipodystrophy worldwide.

Prof. Dr. Srebren Dizdar University of Sarajevo Situation Analysis of Educational Services for Children in Bosnia and Herzegovina (A Study Commissioned by the UNICEF Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina) Sarajevo, November 1996 Prof. Dr. Srebren Dizdar Situation Analysis of Educational Services for Children in Bosnia- Herzegovina Situation Analysis of Educational Services for Children in Bosnia and Herzegovina 1. The situation of the system before the 1992-1995 war 1.0. Historical overview 1.1. Beginnings of public education system: the Austro- Hungarian period The tradition of public education under the auspices of government (i.e. state-controlled) in Bosnia and Herzegovina has had its origin in the times of the Austro-Hungarian rule in these parts, in the period commencing after 1878 and ending in 1918. In the previous time, the education was almost exclusively restricted to the religious communities and the types of schools they had offered included a rather limited number of pupils. Certain attempts towards modernization of education by the failing Ottoman government in Bosnia in 1860s by the Governor (vali) Topal Osman Pasha could not be seen as the systematic introduction to the system of public education. Nevertheless, the process of growing self- identification of the four major religious communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Islamic, Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox and Jewish) in the course of 19th century affected their self-awareness as future nations-in- making (Bosniaks /Bosnian Moslems/, /Bosnian/ Serbs, /Bosnian/ Croats and Jews, respectively). The call for religious, cultural and educational autonomy in all these communities was equalized with their different political ambitions and goals.

  • Early Iron Age in Central Bosnia – an Overview and Research Perspectives
Godišnjak / Jahrbuch 2018, 47: 27–44 DOI: 10.5644/Godisnjak.CBI.ANUBiH-47.101 Early Iron Age in Central Bosnia – an overview and research perspectives Mario Gavranović1 Vienna Ajla Sejfuli2 Travnik Abstract: This paper discusses the state of the research and general interpretation models of the Early Iron Age pe- riod in Central Bosnia. The Mid-Bosnian Schist Mountains and the surrounding river valleys of Vrbas, Lašva, and Bosna together with their tributaries characterise the landscape of this region. In terms of evidence from the Early Iron Age period (800–500 BC), the majority comes from the long-term excavations in the hillfort site Pod near Bugojno. The preliminary reports point to well-organised, long lasting and densely built up hillfort settlement with rectangular houses of similar size. Based on the numerous iron slag finds from recently discovered settle- ments of Čolaci and Zenepići, it can be inferred that some of the sites in Central Bosnia were intensively involved in the metal processing activity. Mortuary practices of the Early Iron Age communities are largely unknown since thus far, not a single intact burial was properly documented. Key words: Central Bosnia, Early Iron Age, settlement, graves, chronology 1. Introduction First of all, however, issues of terminology, geography, and chronology need to be addressed The region of Central Bosnia is situated between briefly. It was not until the Dayton Agreement, two far more prominent cultural complexes lo- which was signed in 1995, that Central Bosnia cated to the east (Glasinac) and the west (Japo- appeared as a political and official administra- des), and has rarely been the focus of the Early tion unit (Central Bosnia Canton).
