Don't you see we must keep in our place? My mind is clearer now— We are occupied— At last all too well Have you forgotten how put down we are? I can see where we all soon will be If you strip away the myth from the man You I am frightened by the crowd will see where we all soon will be for we are getting much too loud. And they'll crush us if we go too far Jesus! You've started to believe If we go too far!!! The things they say of you Listen, Jesus to the warning I give You really do believe Please remember that I want us to live This talk of God is true But it's sad to see our chances weakening And all the good you've done with every hour Will soon get swept away You've begun to matter more All your followers are blind! Than the things you say Too much Heaven On Their Minds It was beautiful but now it's sour Listen, Jesus I don't like what I see Yes it's all gone sour! All I ask is that you listen to me Ah--Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah!! And remember— Listen Jesus to the warning I give I've been your right hand man all along Please remember that I want us to live You have set them all on fire So come on, come on, listen to me. They think they've found the new Messiah Ah --- ah Come on, listen, listen to me. Come And they'll hurt you when they on and listen to me. Ah --- ah find they're wrong I remember when this whole thing began No talk of God then— What’s The Buzz We called you a man And believe me— APOSTLES What's the buzz? My admiration for you hasn't died Tell me what's a-happening. But every word you say today (repeat 8 times) Gets twisted round some other way And they'll hurt if they think you've lied JESUS Why should you want to know? Don't you mind about the future? Don't Nazareth, your famous son you try to think ahead? Should have stayed a great unknown Save tomorrow for tomorrow; Like his father carving wood— Think about today instead. He'd have made good APOSTLES What's the buzz? Table chairs and oaken chests Tell me what's a-happening. would have suited Jesus best (repeat many times) He'd caused nobody harm--no-one alarm 1 JESUS I could give you facts and figures. JESUS Who are you to criticize her? Even give you plans and forecasts. Even Who are you to despise her? tell you where I'm going. Leave her, leave her, let her be now Leave her, leave her, APOSTLES When do we ride into Jerusalem? she's with me now [Repeats] If your slate is clean – JESUS Why should you want to know? then you can throw stones Why are you obsessed with fighting If your slate is not Times and fates you can't defy? then leave her alone If you knew the path we're riding, I'm amazed that men like you You'd understand it less than i. can be so shallow thick and slow APOSTLES What's the buzz? There is not a man among you Tell me what's a-happening. who knows or cares if I come or go. (repeat many times) ALL (except Judas) No you're wrong! MARY Let me try to cool down You're very wrong!... your face a bit. (repeat 5 times) How can you say that? How can you say that?... JESUS Mary that is good, While you prattle through your supper, JESUS Not one - not one of you! Where and when and who and how. She alone has tried to give me What I need right here and now. Then We Are Decided APOSTLES What's the buzz? CAIAPHAS Tell me what's a-happening. We've been sitting on the fence (repeat many times) for far too long. ANNAS Strange Thing Mystifying Why let him upset us? Caiaphas, let him be. It seems to me a strange thing, mystifying All those imbeciles will see That a man like you can waste his time He really doesn't matter. on women of her kind Yes I can understand that she amuses CAIAPHAS But to let her kiss you, stroke your hair, Jesus is important. that's hardly in your line We've let him go his way before It's not that I object to her profession And while he starts a major war, But she doesn't fit in well We theorize and chatter. with what you teach and say ANNAS It doesn't help us if you are inconsistent He's just another Scripture-thumping They only need a small excuse hack From Galilee! to put us all away CAIAPHAS The difference is they call him King! Everything’s Alright The difference frightens me! What about the Romans? MARY MAGDALENE When they see King Jesus crowned Try not to get worried, try not to turn on to Do you think they'll stand around, problems that upset you oh don't you know Cheering and applauding? Everything's alright yes everything's fine What about our people? and we want you to sleep well tonight If they see we've lost our nerve Let the world turn without you tonight Don't you think that they deserve If we try we'll get by Something more rewarding? so forget all about us tonight ANNAS APOSTLES'WOMEN They've got what they want. Everything's alright yes everything's alright yes They think so, anyway. MARY MAGDALENE If he's what they want Sleep and I shall soothe you, Why take their toy away? Close your eyes close your eyes and relax What about our priesthood? think of nothing tonight Don't you see that we could fall? APOSTLES' WOMEN If we are to last at all, Everything's alright yes everything's alright yes We cannot be divided! JUDAS Woman your fine ointment ANNAS - brand new and expensive Then say so to the council. could have been saved for the poor But don't rely on subtlety. Why has been wasted, Frighten them, or they won't see... we could have raised maybe CAIAPHAS three hundred silver pieces or more Then we are decided? People who are hungry, people who are starving ANNAS matter more than your feet and hair. Then we are decided MARY MAGDALENE Try not to get worried, try not to turn on to problems that upset you oh don't you know Everything's alright yes everything's fine and we want you to sleep well tonight Let the world turn without you tonight If we try we'll get by so forget all about us tonight 3 ALL Hey JC, JC you're alright by me Everything's alright yes everything's alright yes Sanna Hosanna Hey Superstar JESUS JESUS Surely you're not saying we have the Why waste your breath moaning at the crowd? resources to save the poor from their lot. Do You Think You're What They Say You Are? Reflections on Jesus Christ Superstar Abstract Jesus Christ Superstar (dir. Norman Jewison, 1973) is a hybrid which, though influenced yb Jesus films, also transcends them. Its rock opera format and its focus on Holy Week make it congenial to the adaptation of the Gospels and its characterization of a plausible, non-stereotypical Jesus capable of change sets it apart from the traditional films and aligns it with The Last Temptation of Christ and Jesus of Montreal. It uses its depiction of Jesus as a means not of reverence but of interrogation, asking him questions by placing him in a context full of overtones of the culture of the early 1970s, English-speaking West, attempting to understand him by converting him into a pop-idol, with adoring groupies among whom Jesus struggles, out of context, in an alien culture that ultimately crushes him, crucifies him and leaves him behind.

MASARYK UNIVERSITY Faculty of Education Department of English Language and Literature ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER’S MUSICALS Diploma Thesis Brno 2009 Radka Adamová Supervisor: Mgr. Lucie Podroužková, PhD. 1 BIBLIOGRAPHICAL ENTRY Adamová, Radka. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Musicals Brno: Masaryk University, Faculty of Education, Department of English Language and Literature, 2007. Diploma thesis supervisor Mgr. Lucie Podroužková, Ph. D. ANNOTATION This diploma thesis deals with British musical composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and his works. The first part of the thesis introduces Lloyd Webber’s biography, his close collaborators as well as his production company the Really Useful Group and description of all his works. The main part of the thesis is aimed at his musicals Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Jesus Christ Superstar , rather their origin and development, the main plot and their main characters that have many things in common. Both these musicals are based on topics from the Bible. The thesis also deals with the librettos and their translation into Czech. 2 I declare that I have worked on this thesis on my own and used only the sources listed in the Bibliography.

The Ultimate Bee Gees I must admit, I am a Bee Gees fanboy, but I still think this book is a must for anyone who loves to play pop tunes on the piano. All the chords/tab are clearly printed above the sheet music. You can play the sheet music and get a nice instrumental version of many of the songs, but I prefer to just learn the intros then sing and play rhythm piano using the chords. That being said, its definitely a good book if youre looking to develop your falsetto.Overall the arrangements are very good. In my opinion, some of the more upbeat songs like Tragedy, Stayin Alive and You Should Be Dancing dont sound quite right as piano-only pieces, but the vast majority sound great as piano/vocal solos, and I think thats a testament to the Gibbs and their timeless songwriting.

RRCA MUSICAL THEATRE LOGO Proudly presents JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR (JCS logo here) Music by Lyrics by ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER TIM RICE JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR is presented through and exclusive arrangement with R & H Theatricals, 1065 Avenue of the Americas, Suite 2400, New York, New York 10018 and Two Knights Rights Limited, www.rnhtheatricals.com April 27-29, 2006 Page 2 Show Synopsis It seems especially fitting that the first rock opera, created as a concept album at the end of the turbulent '60s, should have at its center a social and political rebel. Jesus' meteor-like rise in renown provides, as the title suggests, a parallel to contemporary celebrity worship. As His radical teachings are evermore embraced, Judas increasingly questions the enlightened motives of this new prophet, resulting in betrayal. Christ's final days are dramatized with emotional intensity, thought-provoking edge and explosive theatricality. Propelled by a stirring score, by turns driving and majestic, satirical and tender, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR illuminates the transcendent power of the human spirit with a passion that goes straight to the heart. Originally produced on Broadway by Robert Stigwood, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR opened on Broadway at the Mark Hellinger Theatre on October 12, 1971 playing for 720 performances.
