Background This programme is the main educational activity of the IITED School of Heritage Management. The 4’ International Workshop on Urbanization and Cultural Landscape came after the past experiences of organizing international scientific collaborations between Iran, Portugal and Italy with an outstanding choice of partners and professionals. The 1’ International Workshop on Urbanization and Cultural Landscape ( July 4-16 2011), the International Workshop on Landscape Quality Assessments (Lisbon September 3-11 2012), the 2’ International Workshop on Urbanization and Cultural Landscape (Turin July), the 3’ International Workshop on Urbanization and Cultural Landscape (Florence, and Turin July 20-30 2014) and the Capacity Building Workshop on the Management Planning for World Heritage Sites in Iran (Tehran 25 April-03 May 2015).

! Presentation The 4’ International Workshop on Urbanization and Cultural Landscape is a unique scientific programme of its kind, and it was the third edition of the IITED School in Heritage Management international activity. This programme was developed in collaboration with:

Framework This training programme aimed at the management of heritage sites with a socio-cultural anchorage, and dealt with topics such as Heritage Cities and Historic Urban Landscape and Urbanization and Cultural Landscape. This programme brought together not only theoretical concepts, but also converted each participant into a traveller who could gain different experiences from different countries.

This Programme was a segmented and practical higher international study programme aimed towards students and professionals graduated in the fields of spatial planning, urban design, landscape and heritage management, also environmental design, geography and territorial sciences. This programme covered 2 complex environments, presented in phases as follow:

• Heritage Cities, Urbanization, Social Housing and New Technologies for Cultural Heritage (Florence, 20-22 July 2015)

• Venice and Its Lagoon World Heritage Site (Venice, 24-25 July 2015)

• Mapping Heritage, Territorial Values and Cultural Landscape in Europe (Turin, 27-30 July 2015)

Methodology and Activities The methodology of the IITED School of Heritage Management is based on a multiple activity model including theoretical, practical, case studies and site visits, working group and classroom discussions. Participants needed to be active and involved during all these activities. At the end of the programme all participants had to develop a final work inline with the workshop thematics and submit it in order to obtain their certificates.

Conclusion In line with the aims, principles and guidelines proposed by main international documents, charts and recommendations such as the European Landscape Convention, The World Heritage Convention, Recommendation on the Historic Urban Landscape, World Heritage Sustainable Tourism Policy and Strategy Development and Small Island Developing States Programme;

On the basis of the cooperation experience between different countries and international institutions and, more in specific, all the subjects that took part to the realisation of the workshop;

We convene and confirm the importance of affirming and working on the following sectors:

Invest in Education and Training for younger generations, especially to promote and to sustain the capacity building and to increase the public awareness on the maintenance and use of landscape, urban and heritage values; Produce operative and pilot projects towards sustainable development, including environmental, social, economic and cultural components, with the aim to generate positive outcomes on the local contexts and community;

Work towards internationalisation and the involvement of institutional partnerships to facilitate and create occasions to share and exchange best practices developed in different cultural and geographical contexts.

Teaching team short biography Alessio Re, architect, PhD in Restoration and conservation of architectural heritage and landscape (2005), MA in Cultural projects for development (2008), Specialization School inArchitectural heritage and landscape(2008), is currently tutor of the international master World Heritage at work and coordinator of the master World Natural Heritage Management. He has a number of participations in conferences, researches and scientific publications on the topic of conservation and management of cultural heritage. He works with SiTI on projects relating to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Angioletta Voghera, architect, she is an associate professor in Urban and Regional Planning at Politecnico di Torino-DIST where she runs a research on urban and landscape planning and local development. She is also member of the council of Architects of the province of Torino.

Gabriele Corsani, is the coordinator of the PhD programme in Urban, landscape and territorial planning and design and in the University of Florence (DUPT). He also teaches the Urban Planning and history of modern urbanism at the same department. He is a member of the editorial staff of "Contesti", journal of DUPT. He is a member of the Board of writing of the History of the Urbanism of the Association of City History (ASC), additionally he is also a member of the Advisory Board of "Medicine and History- Journal of the history of medicine and health" (Florence).

George Tatge, studied English Literature at Beloit College in Wisconsin, where he also began photographing under the guidance of the Hungarian photographer Michael Simon. From 1986 to 2003 he was Director of Photography at the Alinari Archives in Florence. He has held workshops and exhibitions throughout the world and his photographs can be found in major museum collections in the U.S. and in Europe, such as the Metropolitan Museum of New York, the George Eastman House in Rochester, the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, the Centre Canadien d’Architecture in Montreal, the Helmut Gernsheim Collection in Mannheim, and the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris. His work has been exhibited at the American Academy in Rome (solo) in 1981, at the MASP of Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1988 (solo), at the Venice Biennale in 1995, at the Peggy Guggenheim Museum in Venice in 2005, at the Reiss-Engelhorn Museum in Mannheim in 2003, at the GEH in Rochester in 2004 and at Rome’s MAXXI in 2007. In 2010 he was awarded the Friuli Venezia Giulia Prize for Photography.

Gianluca Simonette, PhD in territorial communication, he is a research fellow at the Communication Strategies Lab (CSL) of the Department of Political and Social Sciences, University of Florence. Within the CSL research group he works on digital writing, knowledge management, studying and analyzing new media and new languages. He also is a writer, content author and designer of interfaces and multimedia objects for education and enterprise environments.

Hassanali Laghai, is the head of the department of Urban Planning at Kish International Campus of the University of Tehran and an associated professor in Urban Planning and Design in the University of Tehran. He is also the head of the department of the Environmental Design in Azad University and a member of the Architect’s Excellency Association of Iran. He was an executive member of the National Sustainable Development Committee between 2004 and 2007. He studied Architecture in Florence and Urban planning technics in the Polytechnic of Milan.

Paola Ricco, studied architecture at the University of Florence where she graduated and obtained her PhD in History of Architecture and Town Planning. She works as an independent architectural historian, researching, teaching, lecturing and writing. She is currently an adjunct professor of History of Contemporary Architecture at the Department of Architecture, University of Florence. She curates the Architecture Player, a web platform devoted to short films produced by architects.

Roberto Gambino, is a full professor in urban, regional and environmental planning at the Politecnico di Torino (Italy) Founder and director of the European Documentation Centre on Nature Park Planning (Member of IUCN). Coordinator of many researches on nature conservation, protected areas, landscape and urban studies. Coordinator of many urban, landscape and park planning studies (Gran Paradiso, Monti Sibillini, e , Vesuvio National Parks, Po River, Colli Euganei, Alpi Apuane, Beigua Regional Parks). Author of many publications particularly in the field of natural and cultural conservation.
