Dear Recruiter, It gives me great pleasure to present this placement brochure for MA/ M.Sc. Applied Criminology students. During these three semesters, these students have got a lot of insight and exposure into the different domains and aspects of Criminology. They have interacted with police personnel including DGs and ADGs, prosecutors, magistrates, prison officials, forensic scientists, private security companies, human rights activists, social workers, criminologists, academicians etc. both from India and abroad. These interactions have been made possible through guest lectures, conferences, workshops, field visits, etc. They have undergone intensive internships at various prestigious organizations like NHRC, CID (Crime Branch), CFSL (CBI), private security companies, international NGOs, etc. through which they have developed their research and other skills including training in polygraph. Their visits to organizations like CBI, Tihar Central Jail, BSF, Academy, GFSU, NCRB, CRPF, Cyber Police stations, CFSL, NHRC, and NICFS etc. have further expanded their knowledge about the working of these organizations. Their intensive field visits to police stations, courts, prisons, SCRB, forensic laboratories, etc. have helped them to interact with Criminal justice functionaries and understand the day to day working of these agencies. These students have learnt a lot- both theoretical and practical through these three semesters and would continue to do so during their dissertations and internship in their last semester. They have developed their analytical, technical and communication skills which have helped them to realize their potential and will surely help them in their way ahead. Department of Criminology and Police Studies : Crime is on the rise at a very rapid rate and it has affected every domain and sphere of the society. New forms of crimes also have emerged with the advent of modern technology which makes it necessary for CJS professionals to equip themselves according to the present context. Massive increasing emphasis on professional preparation in criminal justice careers necessitates Criminology and Criminal justice as a rapidly expanding field of academic study. The Department of Criminology and Police studies has designed the courses for those who wish to obtain Master's degree as a suitable for entry into the criminal justice professions, those employed in the criminal justice system especially in policing, who wish to acquire job-related knowledge or broaden their perspectives and those interested in an academic career in higher education, who wish to obtain a master's degree before entering a doctoral program. The department offers students a wonderful opportunity to acquire experience in the practical application of their growing criminological skills and expertise. Teaching modules of this department cover key issues in contemporary criminology and are supplemented by a placement module along with the theories of criminology which allow students to apply their knowledge in a supervised practical setting of their choosing within the criminal justice system. The curriculum of the courses is built on a common foundation on applied criminology and allows for maximum flexibility to meet the needs of the student and their respective areas of interest or expertise. In this approach, the courses may be individualized to meet the student's professional goals in keeping with the overall objectives of the programs. The budding Department of Criminology & Police Studies of this Police University has the potential to integrate all the relevant branches of knowledge and prepare the youth to become responsible citizens, effective and efficient human resources in the fields of criminal justice, security, and public safety. The curriculum of the course is built on a common foundation of applied criminology and allows for maximum flexibility to meet the needs of the students and their respective areas of interest.
