It had not surfaced in the 15th edition of 1883 but it was in the 20th. The Dispensatory of the United States of America. 20th edition. 1918. “Tinospora. Br. Add. 1900.—"The dried stem of Tinospora cordifolia Miers (Fam. Menispermaceae), collected in the hot season." Br. Add., 1900. Tinospora has long been used in India as a medicine and in the preparation of a starch known as gilae-ka- sat or as palo. It is said to be a tonic, antiperiodic, and a diuretic. Flückiger obtained from it traces of an alkaloid and a bitter glucoside. The Br. Add., 1900, recognized an infusion (Infusum Tinosporae Br. Add., 1900, two ounces to the pint), dose one-half to one fluidounce (15-30 mils); a tincture (Tinctura Tinosporae Br. Add., 1900, four ounces to the pint), dose, one-half to one fluidrachm (1.8-3.75 mils); and a concentrated solution [Liquor Tinosporae Concentratus Br. Add., 1900), dose, one- half to one fluidrachm (1.8-3.75 mils). Tinospora crispa Miers (more), which is abundant in the Philippines, is used freely by the natives under the name of makabuhay (that is, "You may live"), as a panacea, especially valuable in general debility, in chronic rheumatism, and in malarial fevers. -

A total of 42 plant species belonging to 37 genera and 30 families were used in traditional medicine to heal different diseases. The present work is an attempt to identify and conserve the medicinal plants in Adilabad district. The study shows a high degree of Ethno botanical novelty and the use of plants among the Tribals of the revival of interest in traditional folk culture. Among them Tinospora cordifolia has a wide array of bioactive principles as well as it has been proven medicinally important plant, have not received considerable scientific attention. The plant is commonly used as traditional ayurvedic medicine and has several therapeutic properties such as jaundice, rheumatism, urinary disorder, skin diseases, diabetes, anemia, inflammation, allergic condition, anti-periodic, radio protective properties, etc. A special focus has been made on its health benefits in treating endocrine and metabolic disorders and its potential as an immune booster. The stem of this plant is generally used to cure diabetes by regulating level of blood glucose. T. cordifolia is well known for its immunomodulatory response. This property has been well documented by scientists. A large variety of compounds which are responsible for immunomodulatory and cytotoxic effects are 11-hydroxymuskatone, N-methyle-2-pyrrolidone, Nformylannonain, cordifolioside A, magnoflorine, tinocordioside and syringin. Root extract of this plant has been shown a decrease in the regular resistance against HIV. -

Abstract The Peppara Wildlife sanctuary is a traditional resource base for substantial non-wood forest produce (NWFP). Checklist of NWFP from the sanctuary is prepared on the basis of data collected over a period of one given month; it is subject to the season, availability, market demands and to the known trade outlets. Major items such as fuel wood, fodder and some medicinal plants have been quantified. The checklist includes products used at subsistence, local use and commercial levels. Acknowledgements From the traditional perspective on non-wood forest produce as just a source of commercial exploitation to the present one of conservation of the wealth of biodiversity, the managers of our forests have come a long way in the sustainable utilization of natural resources. ABSTRACT The last decade has seen a global upsurge in the use of traditional medicine (TM) and complementary and alternative medicines (CAM) in both developed and developing countries. Various forms of traditional, complementary and alternative medicines are playing a progressively more important role in health care globally and therefore their safety, efficacy, and quality control are important concerns today. Tinospora cordifolia (Willd.) Miers. (Amruthavalli or Guduci), is one of the most versatile rejuvinative herbs widely used as a traditional medicine. It is mentioned in various classical texts of Indian Medicinal Systems and is cultivated throughout the Indian subcontinent and China. The therapeutic efficacy makes for its extensive usage in various systems of medicine. Pre clinical and clinical pharmacological studies affirm the importance of this herb. The notable medicinal properties are anti-diabetic, anti-periodic, anti-spasmodic, anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic, anti-oxidant, anti-allergic, anti- stress, anti-leprotic, anti-malarial, hepatoprotective, immunomodulatory and anti-neoplastic activities. The principle constituents present in the plant are alkaloids, diterpenoid lactones, glycosides, steroids, sesquiterpenoid, phenolics, aliphatic compounds and polysaccharides. The present paper reviews the pharmacological and phytochemical aspects of the herb and its usage in different medicinal systems. However, the molecular mechanism of these activities of Tinospora cordifolia for its medicinal properties is to be elucidated. -

F. and Thoms) is a semi-perennial, glabrous, succulent climber grown universally as wild or cultivated in warmer areas. It contains commercially important grey-brown, rough, thin stem bark which used in various drugs. The plant climbs on other plants with fleshy thread like aerial roots. The dry stem is odourless but freshly cut stem has very bitter taste. It produced bioactive compound or secondary metabolites viz. columbin (tinosporin), chasmanthin, palmarin, cordioside, tinoside and cordifoliside-A. Stem contains several phenylpropanoids (syringin, cordifolioside-A, cordifolioside-B, cordiol and sinapic acid). ABSTRACT Katakakhadiradi Kashayam is an Ayurvedic formulation for the treatment of diabetes, skin and urinary tract ailments. This is made up of 12 types of plants. The present study deals with the GC Ms analysis of this Kashayam to know the presence of different bio molecuels present in it. It was observed that it contained molecules like Ethyl acetate, 3-Trifluoroacetoxytridecane, 3- Trifluoroacetoxypentadecane, Dodecane, 1,2-dibromo-, 4-Trifluoroacetoxytridecane, Trichloroacetic acid pentadecyl ester, Trichloroacetic acid hexadecyl ester, E-14-Hexadecenal, E-11,13-Tetradecadien-1-ol 6- and Tridecene, (Z)- which have various medicinal activities. Further work is in progress to evaluate these molecules and correlate their activities to Katakakhadiradi kashayam.
