August 2012 Newsletter ------------------------------------ Yesterday & Today Records P.O.Box 54 Miranda NSW 2228 Phone: (02) 95311710 Email:[email protected] www.yesterdayandtoday.com.au ------------------------------------------------ Postage Australia post is essentially the world’s most expensive service. We aim to break even on postage and will use the best method to minimise costs. One good innovation is the introduction of the “POST PLUS” satchels, which replace the old red satchels and include a tracking number. Available in 3 sizes they are 500 grams ($7.50) 3kgs ($11.50) 5kgs ($14.50) P & P. The latter 2 are perfect for larger interstate packages as anything over 500 grams even is going to cost more than $11.50. We can take a cd out of a case to reduce costs. Basically 1 cd still $2. 2cds $3 and rest as they will fit. Again Australia Post have this ludicrous notion that if a package can fit through a certain slot on a card it goes as a letter whereas if it doesn’t it is classified as a “parcel” and can cost up to 5 times as much. One day I will send a letter to the Minister for Trade as their policies are distinctly prejudicial to commerce. Out here they make massive profits but offer a very poor number of services and charge top dollar for what they do provide. Still, the mail mostly always gets there. But until ssuch times as their local monopoly remains, things won’t be much different. ----------------------------------------------- For those long term customers and anyone receiving these newsletters for the first time we have several walk in sales per year, with the next being Saturday August 25th.

  • Dave Cobb Episode Transcript
VOICES IN THE HALL DAVE COBB EPISODE TRANSCRIPT PETER COOPER Welcome to Voices in the Hall, presented by the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. I’m Peter Cooper. Today’s guest, producer extraordinaire Dave Cobb. DAVE COBB When we approach these records we approach it much the way a record would’ve been done in 1965, 1970. And it’s humans playing together. There are mistakes all over the record. There’s timing issues, there’s tuning issues, there’s pitch issues, there’s flubs of words. The same way people are seeking out organically grown food, I think people are seeking out organically grown music at the same time. The moment I heard Chris Stapleton I was like, “Man I’ve got to track him down.” If I can just get to Nashville I’d run into him and I’d run into Jason Isbell and try to sucker them in to make records. I like to fly by the seat of my pants. Walk in and see what’s going to grab you that day. To me it was a really cool thing about linking really great artists that I like now, and linking Nashville, what Nashville is today. Taking kind of a snapshot of it. And I love it when I get to introduce somebody to somebody else I think is talented. And you see there eyes both sparkle. And I love the unity in the scene. That’s why I moved here. PETER COOPER It’s Voices in the Hall, with Dave Cobb. “4th of July” - Shooter Jennings (Black Magick / Universal South) PETER COOPER “Fourth of July,” from Shooter Jennings.

  • Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} Emmylou Harris by Jim Brown Singin' with Emmylou, Vol
Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} Emmylou Harris by Jim Brown Singin' With Emmylou, Vol. 2. The second volume of Singin' With Emmylou, a collection of duets and backing vocal appearances by Emmylou Harris, is no barrel scraper. If anything it is even more eclectic than the first. If Volume 1 offered names and historical country music and pop figures, Volume 2 offers the other side of Harris' contributions -- some to lesser-known artists, some to artists well outside of the country music confines, and some appearances with grand legends. The set opens with a duet of Harris with Johnny Cash. The song "As Long as I Live" is a Roy Acuff classic. Coming from Cash's 1988 collaborative album "Water From the Well," it is easily the strongest track on it. Along the way there are some soundtrack appearances such as her duet with Patty Griffin on Beth Nielsen Chapman's "Way Beyond the Blue," from the film Where the Heart Is. It is one of Harris' most stirring performances in the last 20 years having a foil that is every bit her vocal equal. There are some killer performances of Harris singing with Bill Monroe, the late Nicolette Larson, Lucinda Williams, Tammy Wynette, and Tanya Tucker as well. On the work of lesser known but wildly talented artists such as Barry and Holly Tashian, the Kendalls, Matraca Berg, German country legend Tom Astor, guitarist Albert Lee, Jim & Jesse, Bobbie Cryner, Mike Auldridge, the Woodys, and Billy Joe Shaver, Harris is a forcer who pushes at the margins in the heart of a song, coaxing phenomenal performances -- in most cases from those she is supporting.

A Piece of History Theirs is one of the most distinctive and recognizable sounds in the music industry. The four-part harmonies and upbeat songs of The Oak Ridge Boys have spawned dozens of Country hits and a Number One Pop smash, earned them Grammy, Dove, CMA, and ACM awards and garnered a host of other industry and fan accolades. Every time they step before an audience, the Oaks bring four decades of charted singles, and 50 years of tradition, to a stage show widely acknowledged as among the most exciting anywhere. And each remains as enthusiastic about the process as they have ever been. “When I go on stage, I get the same feeling I had the first time I sang with The Oak Ridge Boys,” says lead singer Duane Allen. “This is the only job I've ever wanted to have.” “Like everyone else in the group,” adds bass singer extraordinaire, Richard Sterban, “I was a fan of the Oaks before I became a member. I’m still a fan of the group today. Being in The Oak Ridge Boys is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.” The two, along with tenor Joe Bonsall and baritone William Lee Golden, comprise one of Country's truly legendary acts. Their string of hits includes the Country-Pop chart-topper Elvira, as well as Bobbie Sue, Dream On, Thank God For Kids, American Made, I Guess It Never Hurts To Hurt Sometimes, Fancy Free, Gonna Take A Lot Of River and many others.
