A decade later, the power-popping Explosives re-ignited the Austin flame, infusing tight Beatlesque rhythms with the passionate fury of their Elevator hero. By 1979, it was downright inevitable that they come together as a tight quartet. Since 2005, the Explosives have again powered Erickson’s inspiring return to the stage. Halloween captures the live experience of Roky and the Explosives from their powerful first cycle, 1979-1981. Explosives drummer Freddie Steady Krc has handpicked the tracks, most unreleased, including the only performance of The Beatles' "I’ve Just Seen a Face”. Liner notes by Professor Jud Cost. The psychedelic package (cover by San Francisco graphic artist Dennis Loren) includes previously unpublished photos plus a complete history of theband’s performances from those three amazing years. Alan Williams: Surround Sound Auteurs and the Fragmenting of Genre Proceedings of the 12th Art of Record Production Conference Mono: Stereo: Multi Williams, A. (2019). Surround Sound Auteurs and the Fragmenting of Genre. In J.-O. Gullö (Ed.), Proceedings of the 12th Art of Record Production Conference Mono: Stereo: Multi (pp. 319-328). Stockholm: Royal College of Music (KMH) & Art of Record Production. Alan Williams: Surround Sound Auteurs and the Fragmenting of Genre Abstract Multi-channel sonic experience is derived from a myriad of technological processes, shaped by market forces, configured by creative decision makers and translated through audience taste preferences. From the failed launch of quadrophonic sound in the 1970s, through the currently limited, yet sustained niche market for 5.1 music releases, a select number of mix engineers and producers established paradigms for defining expanded sound stages. Whe- reas stereophonic mix practices in popular music became ever more codified during the 1970s, the relative paucity of multi-channel releases has preserved the individual sonic fingerprint of mixers working in surround sound. More- over, market forces have constricted their work to musical genres that appeal to the audiophile community that supports the format. This study examines the work of Elliot Scheiner, Bob Clearmountain, Giles Martin, and Steven Wilson to not only analyze the sonic signatures of their mixes, but to address how their conceptions of the soundstage become associated with specific genres, and serve to establish micro-genres of their own. I conclude by ar- guing that auteurs such as Steven Wilson have amassed an audience for their mixes, with a catalog that crosses genre boundaries, establishing a mode of listening that in itself represents an emergent genre – surround rock.

  • Your Wedding Vows
Your Wedding Vows You’ve probably checked out our Sample Wedding Ceremonies and noticed that the vows are deliberately “simple, positive, and easy to repeat”. We’re convinced that the stress of speaking words must not rob you of the awesome, irreplaceable emotions that occur in the moment of your vows. So we recommend simple vows. There have been and will be many opportunities for you to express your love, make promises, exchange sentiments, even joke freely, but your vows are an once-in-a-lifetime experience. We want you to be free to concentrate on the indescribable awe of giving yourselves to one another. Lovers, poets, philosophers – you! – may be passionate about “saying it just right”. Yes, the words of your vows are that important. We just don’t want to risk dampening the magic of this moment by choreographing it for the guests or video. We hope you’ll face one another, hold hands, and look into one another’s eyes as you exchange vows. We hope you’ll allow yourselves to get “all choked up”, and even to mumble if words can’t come out. Your partner will know what you mean. And we hope you’ll allow yourselves to be caught up in a cloud as though everyone else fades from sight at this moment – because the only one who needs to hear you is your partner, and because often what your partner most aches to hear is the whisper that comes through your tears, laughter, asides, and intimate spontaneity rather than pre-written vows. It’s important that you understand the difference between the legal and personal side of wedding ceremonies too.

  • Gary Clark, Jr
GARY CLARK, JR. 21st Century Blues The last two years have yielded a dizzying RISING FROM AUSTIN parade of triumphs for Gary Clark, Jr., the 28-year-old artist from Austin, Texas. With the by Tom Hyslop force of Warner Brothers Records behind him, Clark has received a promotional push that rivals that of any mainstream artist, one that certainly exceeds anything witnessed in the blues realm at least since the 1980s, with the mainstream breakouts of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Robert Cray, and possibly since the highly-publicized signing of Johnny Winter by Columbia Records in 1969. In the course of the blitz, Clark has performed at every major festival, including Coachella, SXSW, Made In America, Bonnaroo, Summerfest, Lollapalooza, Dave Mathews Band Caravan, Newport Folk Fest, Electric Forest, Sasquatch! Festival, Mountain Jam, and others, along with dates in the most coveted clubs; received ink in a dizzying variety of publications, from MOJO and SPIN to such unexpected settings as Esquire, Vanity Fair, and even the mainstream Entertainment Weekly, with recurring coverage in Rolling Stone, including a five- star rating for his debut EP on Warners, in a write-up that led off the review section; and made appearances on the major late-night shows: Conan, The Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He has taped an episode of Austin City Limits as headliner. A fragment of “Bright Lights” provided the soundtrack to a major mobile phone provider’s ubiquitous TV advertisement, and the video for “Ain’t Messin’ ‘Round” received regular rotation on VH1, America’s almost univer- sally available cable music television channel.

  • Jesse Dayton – Mixtape Volume 1
Jesse Dayton – Mixtape Volume 1 “If you open your arms to the world, it’s amazing what will come back atcha,” drawls East Texas native, singer/songwriter/filmmaker/author Jesse Dayton, who has a bunch more homespun wisdoms where that came from. A veteran of more than 30 years as a musician, Dayton was discovered as a young teenager playing “a toilet dive” in his hometown of Beaumont by legendary club owner Clifford Antone, who booked him into his famed Austin venue, then immediately shifted him over to the honky-tonk Broken Spoke, where the likes of Willie Nelson, George Strait and Ernest Tubb have had residencies. “When I first got to Austin, everybody else sounded like Stevie Ray Vaughan, but I sounded more like Jerry Reed. I didn’t think I was cool, either, because this was before every punk sported that image of Johnny Cash flipping the rod.” Equally steeped in Texas/Louisiana blues, old-school country and punk-rock, Dayton is the music world’s best-kept secret, hiding in plain sight as a guitarist for Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Ryan Bingham and L.A. punk pioneers X, as well as touring alongside Social Distortion, the Supersuckers and John Doe. After releasing 11 studio albums and an EP as a solo artist, Dayton’s new album, Mixtape Volume 1, is a series of 10 cover songs he thoroughly makes his own, reinterpreting and revisiting them in a brand-new way. On the first track and single, Jackson Browne’s “Redneck Friend”, Dayton takes the song to a place where it would be eQually at home on the first two Eagles albums or as a Rolling Stones collaboration with Gram Parsons.

We aim to break even on postage and will use the best method to minimise costs. One good innovation is the introduction of the “POST PLUS” satchels, which replace the old red satchels and include a tracking number. Available in 3 sizes they are 500 grams ($7.50) 3kgs ($11.50) 5kgs ($14.50) P & P. The latter 2 are perfect for larger interstate packages as anything over 500 grams even is going to cost more than $11.50. We can take a cd out of a case to reduce costs. Basically 1 cd still $2. 2cds $3 and rest as they will fit. Again Australia Post have this ludicrous notion that if a package can fit through a certain slot on a card it goes as a letter whereas if it doesn’t it is classified as a “parcel” and can cost up to 5 times as much. One day I will send a letter to the Minister for Trade as their policies are distinctly prejudicial to commerce. Out here they make massive profits but offer a very poor number of services and charge top dollar for what they do provide. Still, the mail mostly always gets there. But until ssuch times as their local monopoly remains, things won’t be much different. ----------------------------------------------- For those long term customers and anyone receiving these newsletters for the first time we have several walk in sales per year, with the next being Saturday August 25th.
