For the Oak Ridge Boys, It's Only Natural and It's Only at Cracker Barrel
September 19, 2011 For the Oak Ridge Boys, It's Only Natural and It's Only at Cracker Barrel New CD Released with Five New Songs and Seven Rerecorded Hits Including "Elvira" LEBANON, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Oak Ridge Boys' latest CD, It's Only Natural, pays homage to their history while making some more history as it debuts exclusively at all Cracker Barrel Old Country Store® locations today. The CD features fresh cuts of their biggest hits and five new songs, including "Sacrifice …For Me" which was written by Joe Bonsall and is dedicated to America's fallen heroes. Newly inducted into the Grand Ole Opry®, these members of the Oak Ridge Boys came together in 1973. Richard Sterban, Duane Allen, William Lee Golden and Joe Bonsall began as gospel singers, became a top act in country music and then crossed over to pop with the monster hit "Elvira" in 1981. The song became their fourth No. 1 country hit, reached No. 5 on the pop charts, won the group a Grammy® award and went on to become one of only a handful of singles ever to go double platinum. In honor of "Elvira's" thirtieth anniversary, the group rerecorded the song, along with former Top Ten Billboard hits "Lucky Moon," "No Matter How High," "Gonna Take a Lot of River," "Beyond Those Years" and "True Heart" on It's Only Natural. New songs on the CD are "What'cha Gonna Do," "Wish You Could Have Been There," "Before I Die," "The Shade" and "Sacrifice…for Me." "We think it's pretty special to have The Oak Ridge Boys' thirtieth anniversary rerecording of ‘Elvira' on a CD in our exclusive music program," said Cracker Barrel Marketing Manager Julie Craig. -
California State University, Northridge an Examination
CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, NORTHRIDGE AN EXAMINATION OF FACTORS THAT SHAPE OUTCOMES FOR AFRICAN AMERICAN MALE STUDENT ATHLETES IN COMMUNITY COLLEGES A Dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements For the degree of Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership By Dorothy Sherman Smith August 2016 The dissertation of Dorothy Sherman Smith is approved: ____________________________________ ____________________ William De La Torre, Ph. D Date ___________________________________ ____________________ Mr. Richard Wells Date __________________________________ _____________________ Nathan Durdella, Ph. D, Chair Date California State University, Northridge ii Dedication First, I would like to honor God for the beautiful life and family with which he has blessed me. I dedicate this dissertation to the long line of hard-working African American men in my family who did not have the opportunities and successes of formal education, but who survived the school of hard knocks with extraordinary resiliency, industriousness and tenacity. I was blessed to have been surrounded by such great men. It is because of the strong spirit of these men that I have been able to indulge in such a study as this. To my maternal grandfather, Frank Crosby of Greenville, South Carolina, a famous rock layer who built bridges and walls that are still standing today, with his name on them; and who settled in Nichol town, buying enough land for each of his 7 children to build their homes, I will forever be thankful to him for setting an example for many to emulate and for his perseverance in attaining unimaginable goals. It was his hard work and resiliency that influenced my mother, Bernice Crosby Sherman, to whom this dissertation is dedicated, a housewife and homemaker, to teach her children the importance of independence, a strong work ethic, value of education, prudence, wisdom, generosity and the worth of standing on one’s own merits. -

November 3, 2014, Issue 421 Old Milwaukee’s Best: WMIL There aren’t many Country radio stations that pull numbers like iHeartMedia’s WMIL/Milwaukee. The August 2014 PPM saw the 30-year heritage station post its best ratings yet when it went 11.9 Persons 6+ with a weekly cume of 510,800. September was almost as good with an 11.6. The closest competition was Journal News/Talk WTMJ-AM with an 8.7. Country Aircheck reached out to 25-year ‘MIL PD Kerry Wolfe to find out what’s in the water in America’s 38th largest radio market. Going Rates: “It’s number one in almost every demo,” says Wolfe. “You have to look real hard to find a place it’s not number one – men, women, young, old.” He’s right. WMIL led the market in September with Persons 18-34 (12.7) and 25-54 (10.6), Wolfe shares. The station’s closest competitor in the 18-34 arena was Entercom Top 40 WXSS (9.2), while Saga Musical Wares: SESAC Nashville names Jerrod Niemann’s Rock WHQG had that distinction 25-54 (7.6). “Drink To That All Night” Song of the Year at last night’s That three-point spread between ‘MIL and its (11/2) Music Awards.
