Its initiation '4.4,as made possible by a grant from the Charles F. Kettering Foundation in 1964; it received additional support from this source in 1966. In 1968 and again in 1970 it received financial support, and invaluable advisory assistance, for continued taping and editing activities from the National Science Foundation. The contributions made by cooperating schools, teachers, pupils and parents cannot be overestimated. Requests for permission to make tapes were rarely refused; in only a few instances was the rieht to prohibit the distribution of taped material exercised. The public school districts in which tapes were made are: Chicago, Downers Grove and Niles Township (of Skokie), Illinois, Grand Rapids, Michigan; Albert Lea, Anoka, Bloomington, Edina, Golden Valley, Hutchinson, Minneapolis, Minnetonka, Mounds View, Northfield, Richfield, Robbinsdale, Roseville, St. Louis Park, St. Paul, Wayzata and West St. Paul, Minnesota; and Appleton, Wisconsin. Private schools involved in the Project are: the Edina Montessori School, Inc.,- Edina, Minnesota, Regina High Schoolin Minneapolis and the University of Minrsota High School, which until a few years ago served as the University of Minnesota Laboratory School. In addition, two summer institutes were taped at the University of Illinois. The specific schools and school districts, In which the tapes were made, are identified on the tapes, excepting in those cases In which the school has preferred to remain anonymous. Fifteen nationally recognized curriculum study projects have coop- erated with the Project during the past few years in a variety of ways. Some have given advice but not become actively involved; others have been involved to the point a assisting in the selection of .classes to be taped; some have worked %/cry closely with the Project and have assumed responsibility for the editing of tapes related to their projects. Fur- ther information relating to contnt editors is given in the overview for each section. They are for those who would like to practice in teacher education whatthey urge teachers to do: to use inquiry techniques, to lend concretenessto discussions of educational processes through casestudy materials; to stressthoughtful problem solving rather than rote learning orroutine modeling; to recognizethat well as to the concept of indivldualdifferences applies to teachers as the pupils they teach; andthat discussion, rather thanexposition, should be the dominant teaching-learningactivity in programs for teach- ers, whetherpre-service or in-service. A second major purpose for producingthe tapes is to increase the effectiveness with which new curricular materials arebeing used in the methodology which is new classroom. Many of them involve content and to experienced and prospectiveteachers alike--new to experienced teachers in that they have not taughtthese kinds of materials, new to prospective teachers because theyhave not experienced such-programs as students. For many teachers, their effective userequires that they make dramatic changes in theirteaching approaches, philosophicallyand methodologically. With these objectives in mind, the tapesproduced

    Policy 509 Students Resident Enrollment and Assignment I. Purpose This policy provides procedures for students who are residents of the Edina Public School District and are to be enrolled and admitted into the District’s schools. II. General Statement of Policy A. The school district is committed to providing students with appropriate learning options that enable them to establish and maintain a successful educational plan. B. A student’s registration for enrollment into Edina Public Schools will be coordinated through the district’s Student Enrollment Center, located at 5701 Normandale Road, Edina, Minnesota. The center will provide the student’s parent/guardian with the enrollment options available to them. The student will be placed into an assigned grade level, based on his/her age and schooling experience. C. Each elementary and middle school, with the exceptions of Normandale Elementary School and the Continuous Progress programs, has a defined school attendance area that has been approved by the school board. The high school attendance area aligns with the district boundaries. Upon completion of the registration and admittance forms, each student will be assigned to a district school, based on his/her home residency.
