FinalProject 25/08/2018, 930 PM COGS108 Final Project Group Members: Yanyi Wang Ziwen Zeng Lingfei Lu Yuhan Wang Yuqing Deng Introduction and Background Movie revenue is one of the most important measure of good and bad movies. Revenue is also the most important and intuitionistic feedback to producers, directors and actors. Therefore it is worth for us to put effort on analyzing what factors correlate to revenue, so that producers, directors and actors know how to get higher revenue on next movie by focusing on most correlated factors. Our project focuses on anaylzing all kinds of factors that correlated to revenue, for example, genres, elements in the movie, popularity, release month, runtime, vote average, vote count on website and cast etc. After analysis, we can clearly know what are the crucial factors to a movie's revenue and our analysis can be used as a guide for people shooting movies who want to earn higher renveue for their next movie. They can focus on those most correlated factors, for example, shooting specific genre and hire some actors who have higher average revenue. Reasrch Question: Various factors blend together to create a high revenue for movie, but what are the most important aspect contribute to higher revenue? What aspects should people put more effort on and what factors should people focus on when they try to higher the revenue of a movie? http://localhost:8888/nbconvert/html/Desktop/MyProjects/Pr_085/FinalProject.ipynb?download=false Page 1 of 62 FinalProject 25/08/2018, 930 PM Hypothesis: We predict that the following factors contribute the most to movie revenue.

  • Contact! Hollywood Comes to Herndon
Contact! Hollywood Comes to Herndon By Barbara Glakas Hollywood came to Herndon in the 1990’s. Portions of the 1997 Warner Bros. science fiction movie “Contact” were filmed in Herndon at a historic home on Grace Street. The movie was based on a novel by the same name, written by Carl Sagan. The basic plot line is as follows: Dr. Ellie Arroway, played by actress Jodie Foster, had an interest in astronomy since her childhood, an interest that was fostered by her father. Later in her life, as a SETI (search for extraterrestrial intelligence) scientist, she found evidence of extraterrestrial life. She was ultimately selected to make first contact. The nations of the world funded the construction of a pod which she piloted. The pod supposedly traveled through a series of wormholes. She experienced displacement and met her deceased father on a beach. She later fell unconscious. When she awoke she found herself on the floor of the pod. Arroway insisted that she was gone for 18 hours, but to the others it appeared that the pod quickly malfunctioned and simply dropped into a safety net. Although most people did not believe her descriptions of her experiences, she was later confidentially informed by the White House Chief of Staff that her recording device had indeed recorded 18 hours of static. She later received additional financial support for her SETI program. In addition to Jodie Foster, the movie also starred Matthew McConaughey, James Woods, Tom Skerritt, John Hurt, David Morse and Angela Bassett, among others. The movie grossed approximately $170 million and won several awards, including the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation.

Pendo* ABSTRACT: Several recent films have villainized the health-insurance industry as a central element of their plots. This Article examines three of those films: Critical Care, The Rainmaker, and John Q. It analyzes these films through the context of the consumer backlash against managed care that began in the 1990s and shows how these films reflect the con- sumer sentiment regarding health-insurance companies and the cost controlling strategies they employ. In addition, the Article identifies Missed three key premises about health insurance in the films that, although Opportunity exaggerated and incomplete, have significant factual support. Ulti- 267 mately, the author argues that, despite their passionately critical and liberal tone, these films actually put forward solutions that are highly individualist and conservative, rather than inclusive and systemic. SYNOPSIS he guide examines some of the background to the film and the issues that arise when the filmmaker interprets real lives and events for the screen.
