BASILICATA, WHAT A DISCOVERY!

Basilicata is a very well preserved region in the Southern Italy: it’s endowed with a coastline facing the Tyrrhenian Sea and with another sea-bathed portion of land facing the Ionian Sea. Relatively small but immensely rich of history and beauty, this region is maybe one of Italy’s territories less exposed to mass tourism. Discreet and full of mysterious charm, this land has remained perfectly authentic and faithful to its past. “When you look at Basilicata you see fields, vineyards, beautiful scenery. You see the earth as it was supposed to be”, says F.F. Coppola, one of the most famous American film-makers, has origins in Basilicata: his grandfather- Agostino – was born in Bernalda nearby Matera , the European Capital of Culture 2019 , one of world's oldest cities. F.F. Coppola often comes to Basilicata: he loves it! He is walking and drinking coffee in the local streets like an unkwown person: that’s fantastic!

The privileged visitors are always amazed by the extreme variety of landscapes and historical legacies that Basilicata offers. The variety is also for local accommodation: from the luxury hotels&resorts – most of them in the caves of Matera - to the typical farm holidays situated in the quiet hills or in the green hinterland of the region.

Maybe for these reasons, ’s producers, not only Coppola, chose and choose nowadays Basilicata as the perfect setting for their films. From “ The Passion of the Christ ”, directed by Mel Gibson in 2004 to the actual “ No Time to Die – the 25th series: more than 60 movies have been shot in Basilicata.
