Technology Requirements for Blackboard

Listed below are the supported operating systems and browsers for use with Blackboard. Blackboard is a Web-based application and other browsers and may work well, however, the listed configurations are the only configurations that are tested and supported by Blackboard.

Operating System Browsers Windows XP 6, , 2.0 Internet Explorer 7, .0 Mac OS 10.3, 10.4, 10.5 Firefox 2.0, 2, Safari 3

Browser Check

Blackboard CE8 will automatically perform a browser check to determine if a validated browser is being used. It is important to ensure your computer's browser, pop-ups and Java version is validated for all your course tools to work properly. If the browser check is not successful a window will pop up with information as to what should be changed. Not having a successful browser check causes the most problems for online students. The Browser Check will verify that your browser is compatible with Blackboard CE8. It will do the following:

Browser Check Cookies Check Javascript Check Pop-up Window Check Java Check

To manually perform a browser check, click on Run a Browser Check located in the upper right hand corner of MyBlackboard.

Enable Pop-ups

Blackboard CE8 makes use of pop-up windows. Most web browsers include a feature to block pop- up windows. While this may eliminate unwanted or bothersome pop-up windows, the feature sometimes can impede the functionality of legitimate or useful websites. If you have a pop-up blocker installed, you will see the notification below when you login to Blackboard. Please disable the pop-up blocker just for this site.

How to enable pop-up windows in Internet Explorer

1. If a pop-up is blocked, you should see a light yellow warning line underneath the menu at the top of your screen "Pop-up blocked. To see this pop-up or additional options click here" 2. Click on that message 3. Another menu will appear, click on "Always allow pop-ups from this site" 4. Click on that message
