How to reach Alfedena

BY CAR

From Pescara:

• A25: Highway Pescara – – Roma • Exit: – . Take direction to - Castel di • Once you reach , proceed 9 Km. forward to Alfedena From Napoli:

• A1 Highway Napoli – Roma

• Exit: Canaiello

• Take SS85 to Venafro

• Proceed towards Cerro al Volturno – Rionero

• Exit: Alfedena – Roccaraso

• Take direction to Alfedena (4km from the exit)

From Roma:

• A25: Highway Roma – Avezzano – Pescara

• Exit: Pratola Peligna – Sulmona. Take direction to Roccaraso- Castel di Sangro

• Once you reach Castel di Sangro, proceed 9 Km. forward to Alfedena

BY TRAIN

• From Pescara Airport, it takes approximately 60 minutes to reach Alfedena

• From Napoli Airport, it takes approximately 90 minutes to reach Alfedena

Location of the race

Alfedena is a 800 inhabitant village located in the Province of L’Aquila, in . It is part of “Comunità Montana Alto Sangro e Alto Piano delle Cinque Miglia” (Alto Sangro and Alto Piano delle Cinque Miglia Mountain Community) and of Parco

Nazionale d’Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise (Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park). The village is crossed by Rio Torto River, tributary of Sangro River and emissary of Montagna Spaccata Lake which is located upstream at 1100 m a.s.l.

The lake is an idroelectric lagoon built during the second half of Fifties, by blocking with a barrel vault dam a tectonic fracture, from which its name gather (montagna spaccata means “broken mountain”). Swimming and Fishing are allowed in this pure and fresh water.

The race takes place in an awesome naturalistic enviroment, immerged in The Abruzzo National Park. Stunning courses from the clear water of the Montagna Spaccata Lake to the deep forest, from mountain landscapes to culturally rich hamlets.

Distances

Admission

The race is allowed only to registered Fi.Tri. athletes with competitive memebership. Unregistered athletes can sign-up a Competition Daily Pass (Tesseramento Giornaliero), by showing an original Triathlon competitive medical certificate (a copy will be denied) and the Competition Daily Pass form filled and signed. It will give athletes access to the race and insurance (For more details about Competition Daily Pass see www.sannititriathlon.it).

Distances

SWIM 1400 m (Montagna Spaccata “triangle”) BIKE 37 km (exit from the road of the lake + 3 laps of a 11,7 km path + return to the lake) RUN 9,3 km from the Lake to Alfedena along a partial lap of the bike trial.

Relay Race

Each team has to be composed of three members (mixed teams composed by men and women are allowed), one for each discipline (swim, bike, run). Each athlete will relieve the next team-mate by touching his hand. The swimmer must have the team number written on one of his arm and on the opposite leg. Th e biker must get on and off the bike at the lines indicated by referees and he must go through transition area on foot wearing his helmet fastened. The runner must wear the number of his own team on the front part of the abdomen.

N.B. Athletes who are not part of a relay team yet, can send their name and the discipline they would like to race for to [email protected]. The race organization will do its best to match the requests in order to form homogenous teams and allow anyone to join the race.

Course details

The location proposed is particularly suitable for deep naturalistic competitions.

• The “SWIM” trial takes place at the artificial “Montagna Spaccata Lake” on 1400m. course, at the end of which you will reach a little path going to the transition area on the ENEL dam side.

• The “BIKE” trial, starting from the lake, proceeds along a little road to reach the circuit that has to be repeated 3 times. At the end of the 3 laps, the athletes go back to the transition area near the lake. The course is characterized by “Cobbled Classics” sections, with the cobbled climb of Colle della Croce followed by a 350 m. excavated road. COURSES ARE ENTIRELY CLOSED TO TRAFFIC.

• The “RUN” trial starts from the lake and proceeds along several portions of the bike trial, taking the athletes to the center of Alfedena where the finish line is situated.

Transition area is located near the Montagna Spaccata Lake (alt. 1066 m

a.s.l.)

ADMISSION

The race is allowed to all athletes who own a currently valid FI.TRI. membership card. Moreover, it is possible to subscribe FI.TRI. membership by: - Showing an original Triathlon competitive medical certificate (the copy will be denied) at the race pack’s pick up;

- paying the relative amount to FI.TRI. at Race Secretary. (more details on www.fitri.it “daily membership”).

Registration closes on 9th July 2018 or when 400 athletes have been successfully registered. Registration on race day is not allowed.

All athletes will receive a personal race pack composed of technical items, race gadgets, a meal voucher for “pasta party” and other prizes offered by sponsors.
