Bob Marleys Jahrhundertalbum Bob Marleys Jahrhundertalbum "Legend" feiert sein 30‐jähriges Jubiläum mit der neuen "Legend 30th Anniversary Edition". Marleys wegweisende Song‐Sammlung erscheint im 5.1‐Surround‐Sound und mit kürzlich entdeckten frühen Studio‐Tracks Bob Marley veröffentlichte sein epochales "Legend"‐Album am 8. Mai 1984. Es dokumentierte das bemerkenswerte Lebenswerk der bedeutendsten Persönlichkeit im Reggae‐Genre. Diese beispielhafte Song‐Sammlung ist der perfekte Einstieg in seine Musik und sie ist essentiell in jeder Reggae‐Sammlung. "Legend" ist immer noch das populärste Reggae‐Album aller Zeiten, ein zeitloser Katalog‐Bestseller, der sich weltweit bisher über 27 Millionen Mal verkauft hat. Am 27.Juni 2014 feiert Universal Music hierzulande das 30‐jährige Jubiläum von "Legend" mit der Veröffentlichung der neuen Legend 30th Anniversary Edition (Island Records/Tuff Gong/UMe), die eine CD und eine Blu‐ray Pure Audio Disc™ enthält. Neben der CD‐Version gibt es dort einen neuen 5.1‐Mix des gesamten Albums, den der Tontechniker, Produzent und Grammy‐Gewinner Bob Clearmountain auf Blu‐Ray Pure Audio Disc™ angefertigt hat. Dieser neue Mix enthält anstelle der bekannten Live‐Version von “No Woman No Cry” die ursprüngliche Studio‐Version des Songs. Dazu kommen zwei bisher ungehörte Alternate‐ Takes von “Easy Skanking” und “Punky Reggae Party”, die kürzlich in Marleys Archiven gefunden wurden. Weitere klassische Marley‐Hymnen des Albums sind “Three Little Birds”, “Get Up Stand Up”, “One Love/People Get Ready” und “I Shot The Sheriff” (mit dem Eric Clapton 1974 einen Nr‐1‐Hit landete), neben “Jamming”, “Exodus”, “Redemption Song” und “Is This Love”. Die Discs stecken in einem 28‐seitigen Buch im Hardcover‐Einband, mit ausführlichen Liner‐ Notes, unveröffentlichten Fotos und Editorials von Sir Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder und Christopher Farley, letzterer ist der Autor des Buchs Before the Legend: The Rise of Bob Marley. Die neue Legend 30th Anniversary Edition erscheint zudem als dreifarbige Vinyl‐Ausgabe in den Farben Gelb, Grün und Rot. Aus der ursprünglichen LP wurde hier eine Doppel‐LP im aufklappbaren Cover, deren HiFi‐Qualität näher an die Original‐Aufnahme heranreicht. 30 Jahre nach seiner Veröffentlichung führt "Legend" immer noch die US‐amerikanischen Charts an. 2002 erreichte es Platz 1 der Reggae‐Charts. 2009, 2012, 2013 und 2014 stieg es auf Platz 1 der Top Pop Catalog‐Charts. 2012, 2013 und 2014 platzierte es sich sogar wieder in den Top‐20 der US‐Popcharts. I propose to look at the punk rock band The Clash not solely as a first wave English punk rock band but rather as a “news-giving” group as presented during their interview on the Tom Snyder show in 1981. I argue that the band’s use of communication metaphors and imagery in their songs and album art helped to communicate with their audience in a way that their contemporaries were unable to. Broken down into four chapters, I look at each of the major releases by the band in chronological order as they progressed from a London punk band to a globally known popular rock act. Detta genomförs genom att utforska deras ideologier och se hur dessa speglar sig i musiken för att sedan jämföra och analysera dem med fokus på klass och ras. Uppsatsens fokus ligger på musikerna och musiken snarare än andra delar av subkulturen. Den störta likheten mellan de båda subkulturerna var motståndet mot överheten. Detta speglar sig i deras kläder, attityd och musik på mer eller mindre subtila sätt. De var även mycket mer klass- och rasmedvetna än de flesta andra populärmusikgenrer och subkulturer vid denna tid. Båda var relativt enkla att spela och således anpassade för folk utan lång musikalisk utbildning. Det som skiljer dem är främst musiken. Reggaens disciplinerade, bakåtlutade gung mot punkens frenetiska, spretiga skrammel. Av olika anledningar sågs genrerna som tydligt ”svarta” respektive ”vita”. His music spoke to colonialism (“Small Axe”), poverty (“Them Belly Full [But We Hungry]”), the necessity of achieving political agency (“Get Up, Stand Up”), and the challenge of exercising it (“Burnin’ and Lootin’”) with a righteousness and frustration that made him as much a figurehead to punk rock as to the reggae he helped export to the world. He may have been ambivalent about politics (he once said it was pretty much the same thing as church—a way to keep people ignorant), but it wasn’t because of their underlying possibilities; it was the way the political system had been twisted by the tyranny and greed of people in power that troubled him. And if his music sounded sweet and made you want to dance, it’s because, as his sometime publicist Vivien Goldman once put it, he knew that if he hooked you with the melody, you’d have to listen to what he had to say. Born in 1945 in Nine Mile, a rural village about an hour and a half outside Kingston, Marley formed The Wailers with Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer in his late teens, thickening from cheerful R&B-based ska to the more rhythmically substantive sound of reggae.
