Today, thanks in part to the pioneering work of Laureus, there is a real awareness among governments and international agencies that sport can play a significant role in helping them to achieve their objectives. Over the years Laureus has developed an innovative concept which has helped grassroots sport-based organisations to function effectively, derived from the vision of Nelson Mandela, the Patron of Laureus. President Mandela told us in a speech he delivered at the first Laureus World Sports Awards ‘Sport has the power to change the world’ and subsequently the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation was formed with the mission to fund and promote the use of sport as a tool for social change. Laureus today, as it was in the beginning, is still a funder of community sports programmes around the world. Indeed we have pumped more than €60 million into projects since 2000 and we currently support more than 140 projects in 34 countries. But in recent years Laureus has gone far beyond this and has pioneered significant innovations in the TOP: LAUREUS ACADEMY CHAIRMAN EDWIN MOSES SHOWS HIS STYLE IN THE sport for development world. Laureus World Sports Academy Members, by nature of their success, are able to open doors and make governments and opinion makers listen. In 2012 and 2013 we saw initiatives promoting the use of sport, taking place around the world: Laureus representatives presented research and opinion for discussion on Capitol Hill in Washington, the UK House of Commons in London and at the Laureus World Sports Awards in Rio de Janeiro. LAUREUS ACADEMY MEMBER NAWAL EL MOUTAWAKEL AT LAUREUS- RESEARCH SUPPORTED PEACEPLAYERS PROJECT IN DURBAN Laureus published seven research articles in 2012 in partnership with universities and other centres of sport science excellence around the world. This comes on the back of ground-breaking Laureus-funded research reports such as the Teenage Kicks and Sport Scores which showed that community sports projects are highly cost effective when it comes to tackling community challenges and can provide governments and tax payers with significant returns. • Sebastian Coe IAAF President * Paris Staged the ‘World Indoor Games’ in 1985 2
President’s Message IAAF World Indoor Championships Global support for IAAF World Indoor health, the environment, Portland 2016 Championships, Portland social inclusion and peace. 2016 The IAAF World Indoor Powered by Championships are the most important IAAF World Athletics Series competition after the outdoor world championships. Progress Report to IAAF Council Portland marks a welcome November 2015 return of the world indoors to the United States of America. In 1987 Indianapolis, USA played host to the inaugural edition of the IAAF World Indoor Championships*. Since then there have been non- stadia events (race walking and cross country) and a wonderful world juniors in 2014. The IAAF World Indoor Championships, Portland 2016 therefore represent the most significant IAAF World Athletics Series competition to be hosted in the USA in three decades. The USA is historically the strongest athletics nation as measured by overall participation and the medals won by its athletes. Many of the legends of our sport are American. USA, the world’s first economic power, is a heartland of our sport yet general public perception of track and field athletics is low. The IAAF World Indoor Championships, Portland 2016 (17-20 March 2016) in the Oregon Convention Center will do much to raise awareness in America. Aside from the Rio Olympic Games these championships are the most important athletics event in 2016. I look forward with great anticipation to joining the athletes, coaches, officials, media and fans from around 150 nations in Portland. Sebastian

The members of the Commission were devoted, clever, well informed and motivated. They were mostly young people, who were usually well prepared for meetings, cooperative and well spoken in several languages. I would now like to mention some of the members from the very beginning of the IOC Athletes’ Commission: • Sebastian Coe, today Chairman of the London 2012 Games Organis- ing Committee; • Thomas Bach, today Vice-President of the IOC and President of the German Olympic Sports Confederation; • Kip Keino, today President of the Kenyan Olympic Committee and running an extremely successful children’s home in Kenya. • Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth Champion, Greg
Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth champion, Greg Rutherford is Great Britain’s most decorated long jumper and one of the country’s most successful Olympic athletes. After a successful junior career, Greg won gold at the London 2012 Olympics - changing his life forever and playing his part in the most successful night of British olympic sport in history. This iconic victory began a winning streak of gold medals; at the 2014 European Championships, 2014 Commonwealth Games and the 2015 World Championships. In 2015, Greg topped the long jump ranking in the IAAF Diamond League, the athletics equivalent of the Champions League. At the end of his 2015 season, he held every available elite outdoor title. In 2016 at the Rio Olympic’s, Greg backed up his 2012 Olympic success with a further Olympic medal - he also found himself on the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom floor shortly after! Greg is the British record holder, both indoors and outdoors, with bests of 8.26m (indoors) and 8.51m (outdoors). These sporting successes place Greg among the ranks of the British supreme athletics performers - simultaneously holding 4 major outdoors titles - he sits alongside legends such as, Linford Christie, Sally Gunnell, Johnathan Edwards & Daley Thompson. Greg’s route to the top was anything but smooth. From humble and often difficult beginnings, Greg rebelled during his teenage years and ended up dropping out of school, telling his teachers he was going to be a professional sportsman, no matter what - despite having no job, no money and little more than a firm belief in his own raw talent.

It should be noted that these standings only have an historical aim but no sport signification because the comparison between the achievements of swimmers of different generations is always unfair for several reasons: 1. The period of time. The Olympic Games were not organised in 1916, 1940 and 1944 2. The evolution of the programme.

What matters is the total number of points, and a rounder competes against his/her personal capabilities and standards. Athletic all-around competitions are a series of consecutive athletic competitions divided in two days. Success is calculated by the sum score of all disciplines that are pointed due to the international athletic tables. The research included ten (10) is currently the world's best decathlete of all time until 2016. • What People Say About Chiropractic
What people say about Chiropractic "I am very fortunate to have, so-to-speak, my in-house chiropractor, Dr. Franco Colombu, as my own personal chiropractor. So, I visit Franco regularly, and he comes over to my house. He adjusts my wife, my kids, me, everybody gets an adjustment. And we feel always great when Franco leaves. Even when I have athletic injuries he's always there for me, and helps me. So it's really terrific, and I know that first hand. That's why I always will be traveling around, all over the world, talking highly about the profession of chiropractic. You chiropractic doctors are really miracle workers, and that's why it's really great to have you here, part of the Arnold Classic. Because, like I said, the Arnold Classic and Fitness Weekend are about health and about fitness and preventive care." Arnold Schwarzenegger "If it were not for Chiropractic, I would not have won the gold medal." Dan O'Brien Decathlon Gold Medallist Appearing in films like The Patriot and Braveheart has taken its toll on Mel Gibson. "You get hurt all the time. All you gotta do is just like eight takes of running down a hill and you twist an ankle," the action pic veteran tells TV Guide Online. "I got a chiropractor to come along to the [Patriot] shoot, because they can actually stick you back together within 15 minutes. He used to come every other week, from Los Angeles to South Carolina spend a week and work on the entire crew.
