Luminary eve Fifth Derana Sunsilk Film Awards 2017 Asoka Handagama with award for Best Pic- ture. enowned Sri Lankan filmmaker Asoka Handagama won the award for Best Picture at the Fifth Derana Sunsilk Film Awards – 2017, which was held at the Nelum Pokuna Mahi- nda Rajapaksa Theatre recently. He also took home the award for Best Screenplay for his movie Let Her Cry (Ege Esa Aga). Sameera Rangana Naotunna won the award for Best Director for his debut film Motor Bicy- Rcle. Dasun Pathirana was adjudged Best Actor while veteran actress Swarna Mallawarachchi was named the Best Actress. Gayan Wickramathilaka awarded the Best Actor in Supporting Role. Sith Roo in Kandy MAY ASELA KURULUWANSHA Ajith P Dharmasuriya’s solo painting exhibi- 25 tion Sith Roo will be exhibited at the E L Senanayake Children’s Library, Kandy, from May 25 to 27. Dharmasuriya had used oil paint, acrylic, pastel; and watercolour paint for his paintings. Around 80 paint- ings done by the artist. He had painted on diverse themes and had won many national and international accolades. He even clinched the award for the best painting at the Millennium Asian Art competition. He also designed the sketch which is used by the Govise- tha lottery ticket by the National Lotteries Board. Apart from sketching, Dharmasuriya had penned a number of children’s books. He launched his debut novel ‘Giri Hisak’ recently. This week’s ‘Cultural Diary’ brings you details about several other fascinating events happening in the city.
