Trimble Families a Partial Listing of the Descendants of Some Colonial Families Revised Eugene Earl Trimble July 22, 1997 1 PREFACE This Trimble record deals primarily with the ancestral line of the writer and covers the period from the time of arrival of James Trimble (or Turnbull; born ca. 1705; died 1767) in America which may have been prior to March 11, 1734, until in most instances about 1850. Some few lines are, however, brought up to the present. The main purpose of this account is to present the earliest generations. With the census records from 1850 on, enumerating each individual, it is much easier to trace ancestors and descendants. Any one who has researched a family during the l700's knows how limited the available data are and how exceeding difficult the task is. One inevitably reaches the point where the search becomes more conjecture than fact, but man is an inquisitive creature and the lure of the unknown is irresistible. No attempt has been made to give all possible references. For this Trimble line and other Trimble lines the reader is referred to the 62 page manuscript on the Trimble Family by James Augustus LeConte (born Adairsville, Ga., July 19, 1870; died Atlanta, Ga., July 18, 1941) whose papers are at the University of Georgia at Athens; the Trimble Family research located in the Manuscript Department of The University of Virginia, by Kelley Walker Trimble (born Feb. 21, 1884; died Route l, Staunton, Va., after Feb. 12, 1955); the Trimble and related research and writings of Mrs. Jerome A. Esker of Alabama (formerly of Washington, D. C.); the research and book American Beginnings , 1974, by Dr. David Buchanan Trimble (born Nov. 22, 1922;---- ), 2506 Hartford Road, Austin, Texas 78703; the research and book, Trimble Families of America , 1973 by the late John Farley Trimble (born April 17, 1915) of Summersville, W. Va., 26651; the files of Dr. Dan Medaires Trimble (born Nov. 5, 1928; ---- ), 3810 Woodside Drive, Monroe, La. 71201, and correspondence with many others who have done extensive research on their particular line. The reader is also referred to the Bibliography shown at the end of this volume. The genealogical record of some of the descendants of Walter Trimble and wife Rosannah, as well as the other genealogies shown herein are part of a general survey of early American Trimble families and were in part prepared some years ago from research furnished this writer by many people. Recently, the material on Walter and Rosannah Trimble has been greatly enhanced by the extensive research of Mr. Clint Jordan; by the excellent research of Mrs. Jimmie Jean Bowman; and also by Mrs. Nerva Tharese Trimble and others. In this volume every direct descendant of the name Trimble is assigned an identifying number and there are no intentional duplications wherein an individual is assigned two different numbers (one or two exceptions). Each genealogy is given a number which is shown as a prefix to all the numbers given to individuals in that genealogy, otherwise, the numbering convention is the standard one frequently used. This system is used because of the many genealogies shown, 2 and to prevent the reader from confusing one genealogy with another. No genealogical summary this size of any family name would be possible without the cooperation of many researchers exchanging their findings. A grateful thank you is extended to each person who has contributed research.
